Toys and Games Reviews of Fundex 28280 Rage Card Game

Customer Review: Surprised & Glad to See It Back in Production - some changes
Summary: 5 Stars

Our much used family Rage deck was showing a lot of wear. Some cards were in two pieces and taped together. My wife was pleased to see four of this new edition in a department store for only $3.77 each, so she grabbed them all (not to "hoard," mind you ... giving them to our grown kids). For those new to the game, however, note that the printed rules in this new edition have some significant changes. E.g. in the original, "Wild Rage" can be made any number ("0" if you want to lose the trick,"16" if you want to win it), but in the new, the rules say that the Wild Rage is the highest of its color. "Change Rage" in the original brings a random change to the trump, but in the new, the player gets to choose the trump. In the original, a special card cannot win a trick, in the new, it can if it is the first played and all others are also special cards. In scoring, the new version does not give a -5 for missing your bid, and only +5 for those who successfully bid zero. Although we have not tried the new rules, my impression is that they are not improvements, and I would recommend newcomers joining us "purists" and playing it the original way. Either way, have fun, it's a great game!

Customer Review: Great game
Summary: 5 Stars

Despite owning other great card games like Phase 10 and Hit the Deck, Rage stands out as one of the best of its kind. Perhaps this is because it is based on the famous old card game Oh Hell!, repackaged in a colorful, commercial format ("RAGE" with lightning and all is printed on the back) with special wild cards to add to the experience.

To play, there are 10 rounds. In the first round, each player gets ten cards. The player to the dealer's left (per custom) starts the first "trick" (in layman's terms, puts down a card) and play proceeds around the table. The highest number card and/or card in the trump suit wins. Of course, wild cards are there to change things. The catch is that the goal of the game is not necessarily to win as many tricks as possible, but to correctly predict how many you will walk away with. At the end of each round, the points are tallied up. This leads to a very suspenseful and exciting 10 rounds of great gameplay!

Customer Review: Theres a little "Rage" in all of us
Summary: 4 Stars

Not to be confused with its predecessor "Wild Rage", the card game "Rage" truly brings out the best in fast paced card games. I've never had so much fun with co-workers that I had never really got along with.
As a matter of fact I just found an old mom and pop corner store in my West Virginia town that still sells this American party staple. Though "Rage" is largely responsible for the separation of my parents I can't deny the benefits that have come from the exciting gameplay.(!) Yes, I have forgotten to pick up my son from his little league games because i was too enthralled with "Rage" but in the long run I think he too will appreciate America's true past time. As an air-traffic controller, co-workers have suggested that I refrain from playing until my breaks but sometimes the urge is just too strong to resist. "Rage" is the best family fun, bang for your buck, lose your appendix/virginity in Mexico game I've ever played.

Customer Review: Best card game ever
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been playing Rage for about 25 years. My original game is very worn, so I am thrilled it has been re-released (and not in the German version). The original advertising called it "an adult game of revenge". Sort of like playing a wild card poker game - at any moment, the trump card can change plus lots more curveballs can be thrown at you. Each round gets one less card, so the tension is constantly building! Great fun, although it is helpful to have someone with decent math skills keep score if you are the least bit competitive.

Customer Review: Fun for all
Summary: 5 Stars

Rage is a constant crowd pleaser. It is a blast for a big crowd, but just as fun for a small group (3+, I wouldn't recommended it as a 2-player game). The nature of the game keeps it from getting boring and you can employ different strategies to win. We played it with some friends so we bought it and now we have 4 or 5 friends who have bought it or requested it as a gift as well. It's simple to learn and tons of fun to play. Rage is a staple in our games closet!
