Toys and Games Reviews of Floppy Seat Shopping Cart Cover

Customer Review: We hated it and only used it twice!
Summary: 2 Stars

This is another one of those great ideas but it just didn't work for us. Our 14 month old has been notorious for chewing on the cart since she was able to sit in the cart. That freaked me out and we went straight to the baby department to find a solution. Well we found the Floppy and a couple of solutions by Fisher Price. We opted for the Floppy because it seemed to do it all.

Well the first time I used it (she was approx. 4 1/2 months) it was just me and our daughter. I had her, her bag and the Floppy which was pretty much as big as her bag! Then I had to unfold this thing one handed because at the time our daughter could even stand on her own. It was a total nightmare to get this thing situated!

Then it became very clear it wasn't going to work on the carts at our supermarket. They are those flat rectangular carts and this thing was just too big for the seat area. While I was adjusting it one more time I realized to my horror that the red had faded all over her new Gymboree pants! Needless to say I vowed never to use it again.

Well my husband was determined not to waste yet another $40 bucks on a useless baby item so he decided we'd try it again when he was with us. We went to 6 places that day and it didn't fit a single cart properly. She ended up laying in the seat and using it as a pillow most of the day. Then was tried it at dinner. I did seem to fit the highchair ok but it faded yet again! This time it got her new Gap jeans!

After that we gave up and took it back to the store. We exchanged it for the two Fisher Price covers that we looked at in the beginning. They both work great! The cart cover fits every cart we have every come into contact with. And both are compact and easy to attach to the cart while holding an infant or now a very active toddler. They also cost alot less than he Floppy and neither has ever faded on her clothing.

Customer Review: Is it worth the trouble?

I felt I had to register for the floppy seat after reading the online reviews and talking to another mom. I received this as a shower present and used it for the first time when my daughter was 6 months old. I was happy to see that it came through the washer and dryer looking like new. I practiced pulling it out and putting it in its bag but realized neither could be done easily (especially with just one hand), so I threw it in the car unfolded. At the restaurant, it was difficult to carry in baby, diaper bag, and floppy (they're not kidding!) seat. My friend easily placed her baby in his highchair, and then we spent the next few minutes trying to manuever the floppy seat over my baby's highchair. It kept popping out of the chair, so she used both hands to hold it down while I worked on getting my daughter in it. It was such an ordeal that I thought I'd never use it again. Luckily, it seems to have softened up with use. It now fits pretty well over a highchair, but it still definitely takes two people ("installs easily with one hand" ha!). I have had much better luck with shopping carts, but again, getting set up is a bit of a struggle. I have to go find a cart, bring it to the car, set up the floppy seat, and then take my daughter out of her carseat and put her in the cart.

I don't regret owning this product, but it is definitely not as easy to use as advertised. Once I have my daughter set up in the floppy seat, I do feel better about her being protected from germs. And at 6 months, she wasn't sitting up well enough in a cart to use the store strap, but the floppy seat strap held her up pretty well. She also tends to dive forward or to the side, so the padding gives me peace of mind. Overall, I recommend this product - just know what you are in for when it comes to setting it up.

Customer Review: Leg holes REALLY are too big
Summary: 2 Stars

I read all the reviews here, and it seemed about 10:1 positive to negative, and a lot of the negative reviews almost sounded like competitors pooh-poohing.

Most of the allegedly 'superior' products cant be bought in a store, but the Floppy seat can, for easy returns.

I bought it and tried it.

#1, you absolutely cannot unbag this thing from its built in sack and put it on a shopping cart with one hand. If you can, I'm impressed. I'm a good sized guy and can handle the baby easily with one hand. Unless theres some magic trick to it that the instructions leave out, I would find it challenging to just remove the thing from its own sack with one hand.

#2, the leg holes are absolutely, 100% guaranteed too dang big. I put this in three different carts and the metal bars around where the baby's legs go were exposed all around. He could easily grab several, his legs were touching them, and he could reach one with his mouth. Sort of completely invalidates the purpose of the thing. Now if he was a 3-4 year old kid, you'd need leg holes that big. But then he'd probably know enough not to put the cart parts in his mouth. In the cart where there was the least metal parts exposed, I spent half my time in the store tugging and yanking and stretching the fabric area near his legs to try to keep the cart parts covered.

Its really nice though. Well padded, plenty of pockets and loops and all of that, stows in its own bag quite easily (with TWO hands). I liked it. Wish the leg holes were about half the size they are or it had some kind of velcro'd flap with smaller leg holes in it that you could remove when the baby got bigger.

Customer Review: A must have for germ-o-phobes like me

Ok so no one wants to look down at their child and see them chewing on the grocery cart! EWWWW! You've seen the 20/20 episodes with all the disgusting info on them saying how they are never washed and such- well here is your answer. I registered for this and luckily my brother in law and sister in law came thru! It really puts your mind at ease. It completely covers the cart or high chair unlike some models I have seen. The colors are bright and entertaining (and will hide stains if necessary) and has a pocket to connect or store toys and a safety strap to buckle in your precious cargo. I have but 2 complaints thus the 4 stars and not 5. It comes in a handy carrying case- cool you think- until you can't even undo the thing with BOTH hands- I practiced at home- Thank God! I can't imagine being at the store trying to manuver my 6 month old and the floppy- plus everything else you must bring along when shopping with baby! (kitchen sink hahaha) My answer to this- carry it unfolded- then simply "flop" it over the cart and add baby and toys then shop away! I put my arm thru the leg hole then I have both hands free to carry my daughter. It does seem to be a bit bulky too- however I have found this to be an advantage since my daughter is till so tiny and not quite the expert on sitting alone (she outgrew her infant car seat length wise at 4.5 months or so) it pads her in there nice and proovides a cushiony support! She even fell asleep in a cart at K-Mart today- and she looked quite cozy. And trust me her sleeping isn't something that comes easy these days- so she must have been quite content to doze off. Hope this helps!

Customer Review: Soft, sanitary and safe -- mom's best friend at the grocery
Summary: 5 Stars

When my son outgrew his infant carrier but wasn't a champ at sitting up, I got this seat cover to give him a comfortable place to flop in the grocery cart.

Let me say that before I became a mom, I would have thought this seat cover was the world's most frivolous purchase. But it has been great. When my son was sleepy, he could put his head down on the soft material and nap while I shopped. When he went through his sucking stage, I was so glad he was sucking on the seat belt of this thing instead of the unsanitary belt on the cart. When it's cold or wet, I am happy to have a warm, dry seat for him.

Yes, I get my share of quizzical looks from people who probably think it's a little overboard, but I get just as many comments from moms who say they wish they had had something like this when their kids were babies.

Before I purchased this, I read a review here from someone who said their child fell, cushion and all, out of a cart while buckled into the Floppy Seat. If you follow the instructions printed on the seat cover, this CANNOT happen. You thread one end of the Floppy Seat seat belt through the grates of the cart, then put it through a slit in the Floppy Seat to buckle the child in. This secures the seat and the baby to the cart. They CANNOT fall out if buckled in this way.

Plus it is machine wash and dry.

I do agree with other reviewers that you really can't put it on with one hand. I usually grab a cart, set up the Floppy Seat while my son is still in the car, then put him in the cart once I have it all together. Very convenient.
