Toys and Games Reviews of Ocean Wonders Rockin' Aquarium Gym

Customer Review: So far so good
Summary: 4 Stars

So far we haven't encountered any of the issues that the previous reviewers have spoken of, except that it does take effort to kick on the music. As far as the hard plastic under the quilt, I just place a soft plushy blanket over it before my son lays down, or I sit him in his boppy and he can whack at the toys. As for the whole choking hazard thing that others have posted about, that only applies to before it is assembled, and it states that adult assembly is required, the choking hazard is the screws since an adult has to screw the thing together!!! I just had to laugh at the past reviews that said that, you'll notice that any toy that needs assembly will have the choking hazard warning!!! Anyways, my son is definitely entertained by this, I hope it continues to work and that we don't run into the issues that others have had. I do have to say that although the toys that came with it keep him busy, it would be better if they sold different varieties of toys for this. For example, we had a swing for my daughter a few years ago that had a spot for two toys to screw into, and they sold at least 20 different toys that could fit onto it, and they also fit onto other products such as various walkers and exersaucers, if this toy had more toys to change it up that would make it a little more interesting to have some variety. But my son seems entertained for the time being, I hope that he continues to enjoy it. Perhaps the rocking/kicking it on function works better for infants that are able to just sit up and move around more, and not really meant for newborns or younger infants who still need to lay down in it, so for those of you with the smaller babies don't give up on it just yet!!!

Customer Review: Very Cute and Entertaining Toy
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally bought this for my 2 month old son so I could lay him down on the floor in the living room and not worry that my 6 and 9 year old would forget he was there and accidentally step on him. While in the infant position the toy bar serves as a visual reminder since he is a pretty content guy and doesn't fuss all that often. I also like that I don't have to throw down and smooth out a blanket which can be a challenge while holding a little one that can't sit on his own. I can just grab the toy/gym one-handed.

I did find that sometimes it is difficult for him to rock the base enough to activate the lights and music but I have discovered that if I just reposition him (slide his feet closer to the end of the boat so that the toys are right over head) he can get the music going on his own without too much trouble. He has really enjoyed reaching for the fish as they dangle down and has been rewarded if he actually gets his hands on one for they easily detach.

I have noticed some clicking like previous reviewers have reported but ours doesn't do it all the time. It mostly seems to happen when the batteries are weaker or he puts his feet on the revolving wheel. But even if it does click occasionally it doesn't seem to bother him because the music and lights are still going.

The music is cute and the attachable toys are adoreable (An additional accessory set with a different set of toys for variance would be nice), my now 4 month old son loves to talk and babble at the dangling fish. We have been very pleased with our purchase.

Customer Review: Ahoy all active babies!
Summary: 4 Stars

As the mother of three children who all loved to kick as infants, I have some experience with kick/motion gyms. This product definitely seems to reward my latest addition's antics. Our three-month old used her older siblings' Kick Start gym until she kicked it out of commission. Since it was our second kick gym, we decided to purchase something different and found this boat. While she needs to exert a little more energy to get it moving, she is enthralled with the aquarium toy once she does. The sound has 2 levels and plays some quirky little tunes while the lights blink and the fish move around. She has just started to grab onto rattles and burp cloths and seems to like holding onto the lobster who sits on the left side of the boat. It's really a cute toy. Overall, I rate this product highly because it definitely keeps her attention for about a half hour. I can only assume that she'll use it more once she can reach the fish or rock the boat more to start the aquarium.

Overall, this was very easy to assemble and took us about 5-10 minutes. You'll need a screwdriver for some parts, but otherwise just need to snap some items into place.

If you have a tiny baby, he/she probably won't be able to make the boat rock, so you'll need to jiggle it a little to start the aquarium. However, there is a button that you can press that makes it automatically start for about 5 minutes.

Customer Review: A little disappointed...
Summary: 3 Stars

I must admit that I didn't bother to read any reviews about this before I registered for it for my baby shower so I really didn't know what I was in for...
I won't even speak on the entertainment value of the toy because my daughter is only 6 weeks old and still hasn't been able to really "enjoy" the toy yet.
My problem with this gym is how big, bulky and heavy it is. It doesn't fold up to store which means that once it's put together, you're stuck with finding a place to keep it until the baby gets tired of it (which will be quite awhile since they can use this toy from birth up to about a year when they'll probably lose interest in it). Perhaps this is fine for some, but if you live in a small house or apartment you definitely don't want this gym! Baby's things (swing, car seat carrier, crib...) are large and take up enough space without having a bulky baby gym too (isn't it funny how the littlest people require the biggest stuff??). If you ask me, there are plenty of cute baby gyms out there that are made of cloth and are pliable and easy to store, so why buy one that's made of (very) hard plastic that's going to be a pain to have in the house?
Like I said, the baby may well learn to like the toy and what it does, but for me, the storage issue alone is enough to make me wish I had registered for a different gym.

Customer Review: Best Gym We Had!
Summary: 5 Stars

We had 4 different baby gyms because we had registered for 2 and then got 2 random ones. This was one of the random ones and boy were we happy someone got it for us. Our daughter LOVED this gym way longer than any of her other toys. She is now almost 18 months and while the gym has been put away awhile back, we still have all the toy attachments out to play with. We used to have all our gyms sitting out on the ground next to eachother and there were 2 in particular she liked best. The regular baby einstein one (not water play one) and this one. She loved looking at the lights and listening to the music at first. Then she started getting the hang of kicking and swatting at the toys. After that she enjoyed pulling on the toys and shaking them and gnawing at them. When she started sitting up she loved "driving the boat" to make the music go. She played with this until she started pulling up because then it is a bit dangerous. I highly recommend this item and think that if your child doesn't like it, like some reviewers said, it just means it doesn't match their temperment. Our child has always been a physical girl who needed a lot of activity, motion, and interaction. This provided all of those things for many months!
