We received this "amusement" park toy as a gift for my 2 year old son. The age recommendations say it is for as young as 1 and 1/2 year olds. Assembly was relativly easy, just pop a few pre-molded plastic pieces together and pop in some batteries. I soon realized that the toy was not at all amusing for my 2 year old boy. He was interested in the roller coaster only, which means I now have a ticket booth, a merry-go-round, and a carousel taking up dead space in the toy box. Part of the reason why the merry-go-round was not popular was the fact that the button to press down to make it spin is extremely difficult to push--much to difficult for my boy--and he's very strong and very coordinated. The roller coaster has many problems, however. First, the little monkey that parachutes in the bucket when the purple flap on the track is lifted doesn't like to stay up unless you pull him up at the right angle. My son would get very frustrated trying to make him stay up because he could never get the angle right. Second, after a few uses, the red track no longer connects flush to the yellow base, so the car will often hit the red track and fall right off. Third, and this is my biggest criticism, little hands and arms get stuck when trying to push the car through the purple flap. This is a serious safety concern for me as a parent. I heard my son squeal with frustration and pain as he got his hand stuck in the flap. When a friend came to visit, who is also two years old, she had the same problem and needed help getting unstuck. My son has since learned not to put his hand in there, but he got stuck at least four times! This is a serious proplem, and it is why I decided to take the time to write this review.
On top of the foregoing shortfalls, the toy has only a few sounds which don't vary and are not at all entertaining. There is very little fun involved in hearing canned laughter over and over that sounds like it might have been be piped in from a cheap Japanese game show. For those who have heard it, you know what I mean, it is terrible. There are only a few redeeming features of this toy--namely that there is a track that cars can go down. I think a purchase of a Hot Wheels track would fulfill that bill without the safety concerns and without taking up tons of space with wasted extra pieces.

Add to the fun when you add the Little People Musical Ferris Wheel and Parading Pals (sold separately). Requires 3 "AA" alkaline batteries (not included).Designed to encourage early role play, this small, colorful amusement park is centered on a roller-coaster track that winds around a sharp curve. When the roller-coaster car hits the purple star that hangs from above, a monkey drops into a dunk tank. ("Ooh-ee-ah!") Sonya Lee can ride the freestanding, two-person rocket ship, while Smiley the Clown collects tickets or listens to music coming from the twirling teacups.
