Toys and Games Reviews of InteracTV DVD System Compilation In-PackCustomer Review: a happy surprise Summary: 5 Stars
I reluctantly purchased this system after reading mixed reviews concerning setup and problems programming it etc. Well, we have an el cheapo (...) dvd and it set up on the first try and works like a charm. My daughter loves it and I feel better about TV time since she is interacting with the program instead of just zoning. Since I am allowing her to watch an hour of TV a day anyway, I thought this might be a better way to watch. She just turned three and has no problem inserting the cards and answering the questions with the touch pad. Right now all we have is the starter dvd, so I'll need to invest in the additional titles. We also have the v-smile, which she got for Christmas and the interactv is the superior of the two for her age and motor skills. She can't manipulate the vsmile without help and she gets frustrated easily with it. I'm sure in a year or two, she will prefer the vsmile since it is more of a true video game.
So, if you are waivering on this one, give it a shot -- I don't think you'll be sorry. And, if you have it and you can't get it to work with your dvd, go out and (...)
Customer Review: INTERACTV number 1 here Summary: 5 Stars
The interactv is WONDERFUL! I tried the one I got for my daughter for Christmas out. It it such a Great concept. I have went out and bought all the dvd's for it. I can't wait til Sesame street volume 1 comes out! And of course til more come out for it!
I usually have my husband set the remotes up, but I was able to do this myself... Took a few times to make sure I got it just right...
I think my daughter will love it! She is 2 1/2 and loves to talk to the television. I think Fisher Price did a terrific job with this! Thank you Fisher Price!!! I was going to get the V.smile but my husband didn't like the graphics on it... And both of us are happy with this wonderful item!
Just letting you know if you are looking for the Sesame street volume 1 they are on ebay, also they are at etoys! Now I have all the dvd's and I just can't wait til Christmas day, to let her open this up! The two dvd systems I have are Emerson vcr/dvd player and symphonic dvd player. And it works fine with both of our dvd players...I hope that your kids will enjoy it as much, as I am sure mine will...
Customer Review: Got it as a gift Summary: 3 Stars
I would probably be a lot madder if I purchased this with my own money but it was a hand me down. They are hard to program but with friends on the net posting stuff I found the right code and wrote it on the back. My son was 24 months when he got so obviously too young so I put it away. Now at 35 months I still think he is too young. I think he won't be ready for it until he is closer to 4 if not over 4. I want him to get the educational part out of which is why I say he is too young for it.
Update: My son is now almost 3.5 and I have pulled it out again but he isn't interested in it. I have used it and I think it is wonderful to teach kids that are almost 5 and older. To a kid younger than that I think it is just a toy. I think there are wonderful "educational" things out there that are marketed at toddlers to make them "ready" for school but these things are just toys to toddlers but by the time the kid is close to 5 or older I think the purpose for the toy is better achieved. I would say if you can find one used for less than 25 bucks go for it. Anything over that is a rip off!!
Customer Review: Disappointed that I didn't spend the extra money for a VSmile Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased the InteracTV for my three year old last year for a Christmas present, my sister-in-law purchased the VSmile for her son that is the same age. We have had the InteracTV set up and have tried several times to play it. It goes fine for about 15 minutes, and then it locks up. I put it away in Feburary because I thought that maybe my daughter was not ready for it. So today (Oct 1) she asked if we could get it back out, so we did. And I remember now why I put it up. She got through two cards of the Blue's Clue's game and then it would not read the third card. I changed the batteries and also checked the FAQ's on FP web site and still no luck. My nephew on the other hand can turn on the VSmile himself and plays it with no problems at all. My daughter can use it easily as well when we visit them. I loved the idea of the InteracTV and my daughter likes the characters better, but it is just not fun for her or educational when it doesnt work. I wish that I had spent the extra money last year for the VSmile, it would have been worth it. Maybe this year I will listen to my sister in law.
Customer Review: Don't waste your time Summary: 2 Stars
This is the most frustrating toy we own. I got it about 2 years ago...and programmed it. It worked okay. Then it was de-programmed somehow...and when I went to re-program it, the dvd skipped. I sent for a new dvd, and it also skipped in the same spot...so it sat. Recently, my son found it again in the closet. I sent for yet another dvd, and had to pay for it as it was past warranty. Guess what? It also skipped. I called customer service and was told it might not work with the dvd player I was trying to use it with (though it initially did). I tried another dvd player, and also had problems programming. I was told that the dvd player was too new for the system and to try holding this button and waiting five minutes and trying several different codes and if one number worked but another didn't, they may have a special code to fix it. Blah, blah, blah. I wasted two hours of my precious time to try to get this to work. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, especially if your dvd player is on top of your tv, and/or if you have a new tv. I love fisher price, but I am severely disappointed in this toy.
