Toys and Games Reviews of InteracTV DVD System Compilation In-Pack

Customer Review: Lots of problems/kinks in the system
Summary: 2 Stars

I think it was put on the shelves way to early. There are so many kinks in the system. we got it on Wednesday. After trying for like 30 minutes to get it to work with our dvd player I had to call cs. They went through it with me about 3 times. You are supposed to enter a code and it will have 3 short and 1 long blink. Well the only one that didn't do this was the one that actually worked...sort of. Ok so it comes with dora, sesamestreet, and spongebob on the same disk. in order to switch from one game to the next we couldn't just switch the card on the hand held part.... we had to oped yhe dvd and then reclose and then speed past the set up instructions EVERY TIME. You can't just push the menu button to get it back to the main screen you had to do all that. Then once we actually got it to play one the differect characters talked forever before asking a question. When you pushed the button to answer you have to hold it for a second for it to register on the screen. Also I know it says for ages 3 and over but some of the questions are pretty advanced or hard to actually pick out the answer based on the pictures. I think a 3 year old (ones that KNOW all their shapes, numbers, colors and letters) might get very frustrated and confused with this. Also I think the cards that you insert are a bit to flimsy. We are going to return ours tomorrow. It seems like other people have had a better experience but ours was bad. Our dvd player is less than a year old so that couldn't have been the problem. Good luck with your decidion

Customer Review: At first I was annoyed....
Summary: 4 Stars

.. because only 2/3 of the activity cards were working (Elmo refused to function, much to the disappoint of my 2 year old brother, as it is his favorite show on television). Not only that, but constant problems with switching the cards that DID work, and having it stay at that specific activity despite the change, and other code-programming calamities was enough for a frustrated yelling session.

After having my mother call customer support to engage in a lengthy conversation, the conclusion came that there was a glitch in our system; we had to reprogram with a new code, one that was not on the list for our RCA dvd player. After that was accomplished, the system behaved to the satisfaction that Fisher Price has promised in the commercials. (For those out there coping with a similar problem, or the same problem, try programming "0 0 0 3" in the beginning and see if that works).

InteracTV is a step in the right direction regarding how children learn basic skills; shapes, colors, etc are all part of the 2-5 year old learning process. The excess activities that are packaged into the cards go splendidly with the simplicity at which they are carried out. Another factor I was pleased with was the fact that it integrated the shows mostly watched by this age group; the child is more apt to learn quicker with their favorite tv character broadening their intelligence in a familiar environment.

Conclusion: A good product when you finally figure out what's wrong with it. Keep it up Fisher Price.

Customer Review: Doesn't Like Multi-Disc DVD players & multi InteracTV remote
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased 2 of the InteracTV controllers this morning for my Twin Girls. Upon setting it up, to thier 3 disc Apex(AD-5131), it not only didn't work with the Dvd player, but it actually re-set some programming codes IN the dvd player itself. Leaving the DVD not reading any discs, and giving me an error code display.
So I called the people at Fisher-Price, and told them what had happened. That I fallowed the Setup instructions, went through about half the codes that where supplied for the apex in the instructions. And suddenly my dvd player changed discs and would no longer read any discs. Fisher-Price told me that they had alot of problems with the InteracTV working with ALL brands multi-disc players. And basically told me to try with a single disc dvd player. They also told me that you cannot use 2 remotes at the same time(which is what i wanted, for my twins). So now I have 2 controllers, 2 sets of games and a busted dvd player and one confused Customer Service Represenative.
So I called Apex and told them what happened, they told me how to reset the dvd player. Atleast its working now, Next step is to return the InteracTV to wal-mart, and just buy more games for the 2 V-Smiles that I also purchased(which by they way, work GREAT).
Bottom Line.... Doesn't work well with 3 or 5(or my 403 disc kenwood :) )disc dvd players, and cannot play with more than 1 controller at a time. But it still looks like a great product, and I hope the people who do get it working, truly enjoy it.

Customer Review: Great Product, once you can get it set up correctly!
Summary: 4 Stars

After reading previous reviews, I decided to set it up and try it before giving it to our son for his 3rd birthday. We have an Apex single DVD model and it took some time to find the right code (first I went through the whole list of codes that comes with unit (none seemed to register), then I tried the auto-set up, and that did not seem to work either. So, I tried the list one more time, and 1/2way through the list, I found our code. That process probably took me 20 minutes.

Once I got it set up, it worked beautifully. Unlike a few previous poster's experiences, for us, the remote works well from any location in the family room - it does not have to be directly pointed at the DVD. The pads on the "remote" have to be pushed for a longer period of time than my son was used to, but once he got the hang of it he was fine. The white arrow buttons on either side should be positioned someplace else, IMO, since he has a tendency to accidently hit them, with the way he holds the handle. Not a big deal, just an annoyance at times.

As I mentioned, he just turned 3, so I was a bit concerned if he would get the questions/games. Both the Dora and the Sesame disks that come with the package he can do no problem! The Spongebob disk is a bit beyond him. We also gave him the separate Dora disk, and he can do that quite well, too. We will be giving him the Barney and Blue's Clue's disks for Xmas, and I will post our reviews of those products at those sites.

Customer Review: BETTER THAN V SMILE even though had problems
Summary: 5 Stars

I did Read all the reviews of all the unhappy people due to the DVD player problems... My child received this as a gift after christmas (thank goodness) and it didn't work on our DVD player.. I had the same problem with the company with only getting a recording.. and went to the website.. it took a matter of minutes and they said they would put a replacement controller in the mail that would be compatible. I just received it and I believe that they have improved on the customer service end.. and I would hate that people would just dismiss this toy due to problems which I believe they have a handle on. My daughter was able to play with the other controller on our upstairs tv and from the minute we got it to work.. she LOVED it.. and still does. The toy is easy for her (almost 3 year old) to set up herself (outside of me turing on the dvd player for her) but she really can play this indepedantely. We also receive the V SMILE game for christmas and she has a hard time with it. She just moves the joystick up and down and all around.. I don't think she is ready for that game at all. I recommend this toy highly. A toy that she can participate in while veiwing her favorite tv characters is such a bonus!! I believe that they have fixed there errors (fisher price) and everyone should give this toy a chance!! I think it is age appropriate for kids 2 - maybe 4..but I think anyone older would get bored of it too easy.. But, PERFECT for that 2 or 3 year old!! PERFECT
