Toys and Games Reviews of InteracTV DVD System Compilation In-PackCustomer Review: Great Concept 3 Stars
INTERACTV
I ran right out and immediately bought the InteracTV after seeing its TV commercial. I couldn't wait to get home and connect it for my 2 1/2 year old. Set up and programming are extremely easy. Find and program your code using the program card, test it using the test card, insert the DVD that comes with the system, select and place you're Activity Card on the controller and you're all set, well almost. My daughter sat down to play the Dora game and got pretty far along when the "star" or "A" (on the test card) simply stopped working, all of the other buttons worked fine, needless to say my daughter was devastated. I assumed we had a faulty system. I took it back to Target the next day and exchanged it, brought it home repeated the steps and guess what same problem. So I called Fisher Price customer service, the technician walked me through the steps several times we even tried a macro because on my TV you need a zero before any single digit number in order to change the channels. Though Fernando my technician was very nice and very helpful he said he would need to call tech support of the maker DVD player was made by to consult with them and would call me back well it's been 4 days and no phone call. I discovered that without a shadow of a doubt the programming is obviously not compatible with my Samsung DVD player, because it works fine with the DVD player in my bedroom. Once you get pass the technical problem, there's the question of weather or not I'm crazy about this product. I love not having any wires! I also love the fact that's its interactive which works wonderfully with Dora being that it's a somewhat interactive TV show. However, I feel that certain parts of each game (I also purchased Celebrate with Barney and Dora Rapido Tico) are simply way to advanced for even most 3 year olds, though my daughter is 2 1/2 she's very smart, she knows all of her colors, recognizes all of the alphabet and numbers 1-20, It would be great if the system would allow you to change the level of difficulty, which would not only enable her to grow with the game but also allow her play an entire game without encountering something way to challenging for her, which as you know can be incredibly discouraging to a small child. I think this is a great concept but my overall experience leaves me feeling somewhat uncertain about this product. This weekend I will also purchase the V-smile so I can compare the two.
UPDATE: After purchasing the V-Smile and Interac TV I would highly recommend the V-Smile over Interac TV. I think V-Smile is a much more educational choice, it's also a product that will grow with your child.
Customer Review: Fisher Price really dropped the ball on this one... Summary: 1 Stars
I did my research and read all the reviews on Fisher Price's InteracTV. I did take pause when I read a number of reviews that complained about compatability issues and such, but I figured that there was always some idiot out there who didn't follow the directions! So when amazon ran a special on the system, I grabbed one. Then I spent 30 minutes trying to make the darn thing work! I read the directions, looked up the code for my dvd unit and proceeding with the setup, which seemed quite elementary. Elementary that is until the code didn't work. Never worry, Fisher Price listed a solution to this problem; unfortunately that didn't work either, and Fisher Price has the nerve to let their employees have Saturday off - so no help from customer service! Next I tried our second dvd player, and the code took the first time, but the test card would not work. The player kept reading different screens from the ones that I placed in it, and I grew increasing frustrated. Eventually I got through the setup process. I tried the included disc to see if my soon to be three year old son would enjoy it. He has only recently started to show an interest in watching tv, loves pushing buttons (what toddler doesn't!), and I thought this would be a great game for him to play that let him see shows while interacting with them, not just sitting there like a couch potato. Well, it starts out like a tv episode, then the screen freezes (which would probably set my son off), and a picture of the controller appears with the main character asking a question for the child to answer with the controller. On the episode that I played, Elmo was very hard to understand. When I answered incorrectly, I was startled that Elmo said something to the effect of "NO - that's not what Elmo was thinking about", in a somewhat abrupt tone. When I tried to answer differently, I had to wait for Elmo to finish with his speech before it would even recognize my answer. So the kid could answer correctly, but never know it because Elmo is still telling him that he is wrong from before. I was incrediably disappointed by the slowness of the unit, and its lack of responsiveness. I rried one more question and gave up before I died from boredom. This toy would not pass muster with my son, and would likely be thrown in record time. I repackaged the thing (no small task mind you), and took it back to the store (amazon was sold out when I placed my order), where the customer service lady was not at all surprised to have it returned. Don't waste your money or time on this disappointment from Fisher Price.
Customer Review: come on people! this is pretty good Summary: 5 Stars
Hello all,
My wife and I picked up this interacTV for my 28 month old girl, Now keep in mind I did not read any reviews here or anywhere about this game/learning tool. So today I opened the box and found a well built handheld controller and like some other have commented on, included was a rugged holder for the interactive cards you slide in and out of the controller.
Set-up was simple!! It took longer to put the 3 AA batteries in the controller then it took to setup the controller to work with your DVD player.
I just happen to read some of the reviews here and I felt I read a lot mindless BS. OK, lets face it. Not ever Universal remote control with work with every piece of equipment every made. And interacTV is the same. The hand held controller is just like have a programmable universal remote control. If you bought a $29.00 no name DVD player well go fish, you will have to have the controller learn the system if it can. That's the price you pay for being a cheap A.. I have a Toshiba DVD player and it worked with the first code enter. This took no longer then 2 mins to setup. And if you think that is to long you should of came over here and put together my daughter Dora the explorer play kitchen together.
My daughter and I played it for about an hour this afternoon and it preformed very well.
And for the reviews about DVD resetting and having to reload the DVD again and all the other problems I read about it. What a bunch of BS.
You people need to look at your other equipment before you start blaming the game for all your problems and disappointments to your children! Do you really think a company the size of Fisher Price would have non functioning toys on the market? Come on, it would kill them to deal with 100 of thousands of these games being returned.
If you haven't already noticed I just a little ticked at the incompetents of some reviewers. Just because you don't have a clue, don't ruin it for others that might take your review seriously and deprive them of many hours of fun and enjoyment with this learning tool.
Readers of reviews; always beware! and take what you read with a grain of salt. Because from what I have read here today and other reviews for other things, most of the time the reviewer doesn't know what they are talking about in the first place.
Off soap box now sorry..
Bob out..
Customer Review: Pretty good toy in our opinion Summary: 4 Stars
My wife got this toy for the 2&4 year olders in the family, and I was mad that we would have another console to buy addons to (like all the leapfrog toys). I was wrong, it was a nice buy, nice pricepoint, kids like it a lot, and it's gotten a decent amount of use.
Lots has been posted here about the difficulty in setup. Mine setup using the second code listed for Toshiba. I think the people having problems either have a very new dvd player (no known code yet), very old dvd player, or very cheap dvd player (no frills options). My dvd player is a 5 year old Toshiba, installed with hardly an issue. DEFINATELY set this up with the kids not around, I would hate to have set this up with kids in audience and had a problem and had to listen to them cry or be disappointed.
I am a computer person, my kids are always around computers and are hip to that keyboards send your input to the computer. I set this up and told the kids it was their keyboard, and even the 2 year older got the point that it was his own little computer to work on. Without that upbringing, I think it would have been too mature a gift for him. The 4 year older got it with hardly any instruction. The controller is very dependable.
Included is a demo disk of 3 shows, Elmo's World, Dora, Spongebob. The programs appear to be real shows that are broken up into Q&A sessions. I dislike TV for the most part, but I think this is great in how it gets the kids to think and interact. My kids already do that with Sesame Street, with dancing and calling out responses, but this makes them answer and corrects them if wrong. Good positive reinforcement.
Overall I like this product a lot. I would rather the kids play with legos or geotrax or color - but I got the whole kitchen clean in the time the kids were playing, so it kept them entertained for a good 60 minutes on the same disk and it wasn't mind numbing to them.
Don't forget, set this up at a time the kids won't be around! And if it doesn't work, don't overreact and say you are going to boycott Fisher-Price. Given how many standards there are to DVD players out there, I am surprised they are able to have as large a compatibility as they do.
Sorry for the long review.
Customer Review: Great product for the money! Summary: 5 Stars
I just got this as a Christmas gift for my little boy. When I looked at the product in the store I was amazed that for under $35 it came with over 100 interactive questions and included 3 different shows and cards of Spongebob, Dora and Elmo to start out with. My husband and I did a test run with it to see what we thought of it before I made a decision to buy any extra dvd's to go along with it for Christmas.
The setup took about 15 mins. we had several different codes to try out with our dvd player, but once we got the right code it was simple from there. We tried out the 3 different cards that came with the Interact Tv.
The first card we tried was the Elmos World and it starts out just as if you were watching Sesame Street and then you get a chance to answer questions on the cards- its simple to use! Its a fun interactive way to teach your children. The controller was far off from our dvd player and it worked fine. I did'nt even have it pointed directly at the dvd player and each time I pushed a button on the interact tv controller it worked.
My husband did'nt like the interact tv as much as I did. He likes the Vsmile much better- as do I, but the Interact Tv is a little cheaper and would be great to take to Grandmas house since it has 3 different codes you can store in the interact tv controller for 3 different tvs- smart idea for Fisher Price! The controller is simple to use, just touch the cards on the controller. The questions is simple for children 3 and up.
All in all for $35 I think its worth every penny. A surprise to me when I opened up the package to try it out, I found a nice hard plastic case to hold the dvd and the cards that came with the system. That was a nice extra that came with this product. Its a great way to let your child sit and watch tv without them just sitting there, they actually get to answer questions and learn at the same time. A great product for winter time during snow days or days to Grandmas house.
