Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price T.M.X. Tickle Me Elmo

Customer Review: The Elmo Craze Continues
Summary: 3 Stars

Ok, I wasn't planning on getting my 2 yr old son one of these, but we happened to be in the store the day they came out and once I opened up the box to try to get a peek and he heard Elmo's voice admonishing "AH AH AH, NO PEEKING", it had to go in the cart.

At first I just let him play with the box, which amused him for hours. Then I fell victim to the hype and let him open it. Oh how I wish I'd had the video camera on him. His reaction was priceless. He shrieked and laughed and shrieked some more, my usually fairly calm boy.

My husband and I were amused by the toy for the first 5 minutes or so, but the novelty quickly wore off, especially when our dog thought it might be a toy for her.

While I do think it is cute, I think my son would have benefitted much more from say, a set of unit blocks or something that he can put some imagination into.
If I had it to do again I'd get the video camera out and take him to watch one that belongs to a friend. ;)

Customer Review: Adorable @}->---

If I'm going to be perfectly honest, I actually bought this for myself (I'm 33). I had to have one because he's so cute and adorable and you cannot help but giggle along with him (even after the first 50 times).
With three giggle spots, he falls about the place laughing and making you laugh too. He slaps himself, falls down (tush in the air). It's way too cute and I'd think this has a wide appeal for people of almost all ages (if you recognise the kid in yourself). He's so cute and not too expensive. The batteries will need to be replaced on a semi regular basis if you tickle him a lot, but that's a small price to pay. He's a good size and surprisingly cuddly. This would definately make the perfect gift for any child, and a special (but somewhat secretive) indulgence for yourself if you are a grown adult like myself. I don't care who finds out I have one of these (they are all jealous).
A great toy that provides a lot of fun and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Customer Review: Really cute -- till it breaks
Summary: 1 Stars

We got TMX Elmo for our grandson. Because we'd been warned that he was a bit sensitive to rough handling, our grandson himself has never done more than tickle him -- no holding, grabbing or carrying him around, all he's done is tickle him to make him laugh. I'm stressing the fact that this toy has never been manhandled or abused in any way, to make the point that it was all the more upsetting when it abruptly stopped working properly. *Less than two weeks* after purchasing him, TMX Elmo does not work right. He starts to laugh, and then kind of "sticks" and won't move. We've replaced all batteries twice. We've followed all of the instructions given on what to do when Elmo stops working properly. To date, we've been unable to get him working, and Fisher Price will not respond to requests for replacement or complaints from either us or our daughter. A month after my grandson's birthday we're sitting here with an expensive furry red paperweight. Save your money, buy a regular Elmo.

Customer Review: Not buying into the hype.
Summary: 2 Stars

My 2 year old daughter is a HUGE Elmo fan! We have bought her the original Tickle Me Elmo and several of the other Elmos also. They literally have about 20 minutes of play time on each. Now they just collect dust in the bottom of her toy box. It's a great idea but they lose their play value very quickly. Not worth [...], and especially not worth [...]. I would recommend the stuffed Elmo as she gets to take him everywhere and even gets to dress him up in her old baby clothes.

Now as far as the hype goes.... I can't believe people are falling for this again. I remember 10 years ago seeing the original Tickle Me Elmo on store shelves pretty regularly the last week before Christmas, and center aisles full of them the weeks following Christmas. And this years model is not even in "short supply" like that one was. I have to give props to Fisher Price for their marketing genius. But folks, seriously, be smart and don't waste your money and pay over retail for this.

Customer Review: Laughters Can't Be Bought
Summary: 5 Stars

Well... in this case, laughters "can" be bought.... in the form of Elmo. I bought one each for each of my family and relatives in different states. It was for the kids for Chinese New Year. The gift was a hit and the kids were so amuse by having a toy that's sophisticated enough to laugh when tickled at different places and able to roll around and stand up by itself. My little nephew loves the flap on the box that say's "Elmo is tickling in here!". He ran around with it all night. Most toys, he abuse and roughed up, but this one is special. He puts Elmo back in its box and carry the box around the house. We all laughed along with him when he first saw the gift. My nieces and nephews from other states also adore their Elmo. $[...] (after tax) is an inexpensive price for genuine laughters, I think. I think every kids should have access to a toy like this. Can't wait to see what Fisher-Price comes up with for next year. Goodluck shopping....
