Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price T.M.X. Tickle Me ElmoCustomer Review: perhaps better liked by adults than children? Summary: 4 Stars
We have TMX Elmo. I thankfully did not pay a premium price for him. Is he cute? Sure. His antics are amazing, the technology that's gone into him does justify his hefty price tag. But that doesn't really make him a good toy for toddlers. We have other electronic Elmos; my toddler can make those go all on his own. But to activate TMX Elmo you need to push his tummy (must support his back or else you'd tip him over), push under his chin (also awkward), or push a spot on his foot (easy for an older child to find, not so much for a toddler). In addition, TMX Elmo is VERY fussy about being touched while doing his thing. You really need to stand back and give him room or else he can't perform as intended. For instance, if your toddler tries to pick Elmo up while he's doing his tricks he won't end up standing up at the end. And if you've got a child under the age of 4, you KNOW how hard it is to convice that child not to touch Elmo while he's shaking across the floor! My youngest child was afraid of Elmo at first; after a few days of seeing his sisters play with it from afar he got used to it. Another reviewer made a good point: young kids just don't "get" the idea of Elmo falling down and rattling across the floor, pounding the floor, etc from *laughing*. I think this is what unnerves little kids about Elmo. In their eyes, poor Elmo is colapsing and having a seizure! No wonder they're afraid for him!
So many reviewers mention what a huge hit TMX Elmo is with other adults. Perhaps that's the best target owner. My kids prefers some of the older electronic Elmos. Not as fancy, but very entertaining nontheless.
Customer Review: Is this really about "supply and demand"? Summary: 4 Stars
There seems to be two sides to this Elmo story...those that wanted the doll for their children and weren't able to find one (or were able to) and those that went to the stores and bought as many as they could to resell for much more than they paid for them...when the reviewers keep saying "this is all about supply and demand" I ask, "but what about the fact that the "supply" dwindles when there are people intent on hoarding the supply so that they can make money which in turn pushes up the "demand"? Whereas, if they would not intentionally hoard the items, the supply would be much greater for all of those who truly want the item for their child and the "demand" is more evenly distributed. (By the way, I saw Elmo advertised on Amazon the morning it came out, it was "in stock" but I decided that for $40.00 plus tax and shipping I could buy my grandchildren a couple of really neat toys that they would probably like better and keep their interest alot longer than this toy would...so passed it up...I'm not sorry..I believe this is a toy more for older people to enjoy..and they truly will..but certainly not at the scalpers price)...if they can "justify" hoarding at the expense of others and call it "supply and demand" then they are just rationalizing for their own consciences...this is really NOT the "American Way"...it is the way of a few opportunistic, selfish people but I believe MOST Americans are thoughtful, giving people that won't take advantage of others in this materialistic, selfish way. The "Supply" will be there if the hoarder/scalpers would leave some on the shelfs for those that have a legitimate "demand" for the item.
Customer Review: "I Like Elmo TMX" Summary: 5 Stars
"I like Elmo...daddyo, I like Elmo..." says my 3 year old son as he rolls around on the ground laughing and imitating Elmo TMX from the news program covering the unavailable Elmo TMX...
Well son, I am looking for Elmo. None at Fisher-Price. None at Target. None at Walmart. None at Amazon. None at Sears...
Wait, I found a whole bunch on Ebay. Son, here in corporate America, it is about the almighty dollar. Unscrupulous people bought a whole bunch of Elmo's hiking up the prices 3 to 5 times the normal price to price gouge and scam. Our wholesome furry Sesame monster where the proceeds go back to Sesame Street and other projects for children at home and around the world can now only be bought on Ebay - sold to the highest bidder. I am sorry, that you may not be able to get TMX Elmo for Christmas as I can't see why Elmo TMX is now $100, $250 and may get over $500. I certainly don't like that proceeds of Elmo TMX bought by unscrupulous people price gouging will go back to Sesame Street. I would rather my money goes back to Sesame Street purchasing from a retailer available Elmo TMX than from Ebay.
I say boycott Mattel & Sesame Street retailers and an investigation into price gouging. Ebay, crack down on the price gouging and stop the blatant misuse of Ebay Auctions to price gouge.
Shame on all of you price gougers and Mattel for not having retailers limit purchases.
Kids and parents all over wishing for a TMX Elmo, petition Mattel to stop these practices and to make Elmo TMX available in a fair and consistent manner true to Sesame Street values.
Customer Review: TMX Elmo is the best one yet! Summary: 5 Stars
You know, not sure what all the gripping is about regarding what these toys are selling for. What do you complainers expect when a hot toy hits the market in an economy that is driven by supply & demand. It's common knowledge that toy companies and video game manufactures create a false supply shortage by not shipping enough units to meet the expected demand. It's been this way for years and it will never change. In fact it has only gotton worse as these companies start marketing the products months in advance to create the anticipation of the consumer. Whining that those of us that bought these for resale have no morals is ridiculous. I make a living buying and selling aircraft parts using the same concept, it's called brokering. I find parts cheap and I sell them high. Why stop at aircraft parts. I made over $2000 on the Xbox 360 and stand to make a hefty profit on my 8 Elmo toys. It is the way of a free economy and complaining is pointless. Next time, instead of being bitter about those of us who had the sense to see this coming, preorder some for yourself! If selling them for profit is not your cup of tea then preorder one for your child and you won't be complaining when this happens again! These have been on a preorder status for some time so I actually laugh at you who wait till the last minute and gripe when the stores have sold out.
One more thing....here is a tip from us 'bad people' that drive these thing up..... Preordering a half dozen PS3's will probably net you a couple thousand dollars as well....this time, pay attention!
Customer Review: Not really for kids Summary: 1 Stars
Fisher Price should be ashamed for developing such a toy. In a sad way, this toy is an accurate reflection of the general direction of our society as a whole, and what we think is "entertainment" and acceptable fun and games. In the past, a parent might have sat with their child imitating Elmo's voice like a hand puppet, but now with the hustle and bustle of life, many parents don't have the time to sit and be creative with an imagination.
I purchased this for my daughter who is just about a year old, even though it's rated for older kids. I thought "ok, we'll get a few good laughs, put it away in the box and then take it out in a year". Personally, I have no desire to take it out again. While the animatronics are excellent, it's movement is totally unpredictable and could possibly hurt a small child. It was funny for the adults in the room for about 3 minutes. That's it. Then it was simply annoying.
Because there is so much inner framework to the doll (for it's movement and motion), there is nothing ideal for a child to grasp onto. I would have at least thought FP would have added some stuffing, however I guess that might have added another $10 to the already absurd $40 pricetag.
Save your money, buy a regular Elmo and spend a little time with your child entertaining and interacting with them. My daughter loves when I play Elmo with the hand puppet version, but she looked at this like it was the "Tickle Me eXorcist" doll. I wish I could have given 0 stars.
