Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Sesame Street Silly Sounds Remote

Customer Review: More Than Remotely Entertaining
Summary: 5 Stars

My eight month old twins were constantly trying to swipe the remote when I have it near me and I needed a solution to keep them happily distracted from rearranging menu and video input settings. I tried substituting regular toys, but my babies were too smart for that. However, they seemed quite content after I purchased this fun little toy. Okay, so maybe they just needed a new toy to distract them, but whatever the reason, this one worked. And it is cute. Sesame Street is classic and this has educational value beyond simple touch and play explore--the characters alternate making their sounds and saying numbers. (At first I was curious as to how the pattern is set and why it seemed random, but once I figured out that the number were bi-click, I went through and set it up for the numbers to be the next hit for each button. Maybe I've had just as much fun with this thing as they have.) The eyes at the top open and shut with a cute on/off sound each time you press in the side button on the upper right. The volume control actually controls volume--handy for when you want one baby to play quietly when the other one is napping--and the channel button goes through the buttons in the order you set up. I'm very pleased with this purchase and I recommend it. I wish the cost was a little lower than the thirteen dollars I paid, but still a great toy at that price.

Customer Review: Really, really annoying!
Summary: 1 Stars

I hate being negative but this toy really was a waste of money for me. I bought it because I needed something fun to carry around and push on, for a long airplane trip. I had a little toy cell phone, that my daughter really loved but we lost it.
I wanted something that has a little more educational value so I bought this.

Cons:
- It is SUPER annoying. The buttons that you see on top, the ones with the Elmo face in the middle, make this horrible sound! The worst part is that my daughter pushes these buttons over and over again. Not fun!

- Child can turn volume up and down like on a real remote. You might think that this is a plus, but not if your child keeps turning it on high, which is acutually pretty darn loud.

- The number buttons on the bottom, are the only educational part, but honestly just because a hard to understand Elmo voice tells you the numbers 0-9, doesn't mean it actually teaches your kid how to count!!! Once again, just really annoying!

- It is pretty heavy!

- It keeps my daughter entertained for a very short time- not long enough.

Pro: The eyes on the top of the remote shut open and close, cute!

Customer Review: Adorable! Looks like a real remote that kids always love to play with!
Summary: 5 Stars

After searching for some time for a play remote for our daughter, we found this at a local Walmart store. It's EXACTLY what I had been looking for!

Looks close enough to the real thing that your baby shouldn't be too disappointed when you swap your real remote with this one.

My daughter loves how the blue eyelids close.

All the buttons makes SEVERAL sounds - the volume buttons on it actually do turn it up and turn it down in volume!

Her favorite button to push is the number 6 because it plays cute music.

Teaches numbers.

I always bring this with when we travel in the car or shopping at the mall. Small enough to fit in your purse, but big enough to occupy their time for a while!

VERY durable - I can't count the number of times it's been thrown around and dropped and it works perfectly!

I just love it! The batteries seem to last forever in it too which is a huge plus!

Buy it, you'll love it! We've had ours for well over a year now, it's in perfect shape, and our 19 month old still loves it.

Customer Review: Baby was not fooled.
Summary: 3 Stars

Our 8 month old daughter loves the real remote that I thought perhaps I could get her to play with this one instead of the real one. She was not fooled and will still go after the real one.

Obviously we got this toy for an age earlier than the manufactures recommendation, my biggest caution here, is the thing has some weight to it. If your baby likes to swing things around, she's bound to hit herself (or you!) with this toy, and it will likely hurt.

Some other observations:

- The plastic of this toy has a cheap feel to it (but it does seem sturdy).
- The volume button on the remote lowers the volume of the sound effects... Great!
- Oscar the Grouch says "get lost" - I was surprised by this- some might find this unacceptable.
- The eyes open and shut while making a sound. This is our baby's favorite feature.
- Nothing lights up, would have really added to this toy.
- At her age, the buttons are tricky to push down, this might be a toy she grows into.

Customer Review: Daddy's Remote "Saviour"
Summary: 3 Stars

Keeping little baby hands off my remotes has been and still is a nightly challenge, but with this baby remote, it's gotten a lot better.

This Baby remote really has worked well in distracting and/or "fooling" my son into thinking it's something he needs to be handling and dropping. Just keep it handy near your other remotes and it can save you from your child switching sources & channels, dropping, drooling and sucking your real remotes.

As far as educational value (learning numbers), when we first got it he wasn't old enough to understand numbers, he liked pushing buttons. Now that he is 17months old he is still finding value out of noises he has learned to associate with the pictures on the buttons. Next step will be understanding the numbers and elmo speaking the numbers.

But learning numbers from this toy isn't that important as your child will learn numbers in other ways.

This is really designed to save your night on the sofa. And durable.
