Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price® Roll-a-Rounds? Drop & Roar? DinosaurCustomer Review: Mostly great toy Summary: 4 Stars
My son got this as a Christmas gift because all of his cousins love it. He enjoyed it right away, as soon as he was able to sit on his own. Here's the good and the bad:
GOOD:
1. The lights and the music caught his attention right away, and he'd clap when we put the balls in.
2. Before he could hold the balls himself (See 1. in BAD below), we'd balance them in the holes and he could push them through. He loved doing that and knew where to watch to see it come out and roll down.
3. He loves the things on it that he can spin, the butterfly on the side and the bug and bird on top.
4. This actually supports his weight when he uses it to stand.
5. Now that he can put the balls in himself, he likes to play with this even more.
6. He quickly figured out how to clear the stuck balls.
BAD
1. Until he was about 7 1/2 or 8 months old, the balls were too big for him to hold with one hand, making it impossible to put them in the holes himself.
2. The balls do get stuck behind the pendulum fairly often. They also can get stuck or backed up if baby's foot or another toy is close to the opening.
3. Because the opening in the front is so big, all sorts of other toys get put in there.
Our son still enjoys playing with this at 9 months, and I recommend it.
Customer Review: Where's the roar? Summary: 1 Stars
I was excited when I saw this come out; great ad on TV, looked like a lot of fun, and was rated very good on Amazon. I couldn't find it for under the MSRP of $40 locally, and to treat my 6month old who had just come through his first ear infection like a trooper, bought it for the full price.
What a disappointment. You basically have to toss the balls in hard to get them to "return" and the stomach seems to "eat" the balls. This was worth about $7 USD for the balls; they're pretty well built, amusing for my child, but the "fun" was all marketing hype.
The insult that was added is that there is no "roar". It sort of smeeps one of every 3 times you send a ball past the head, but that's it.
This really isn't cutting edge at all; no design of slope was considered, and the noise mechanism is a very old logic you'll find on toys 10 or more years ago. No thought was put into teaching (gravity or momentum seem defied by it's holdup of the balls).
The only thing that this is going to teach my child is that you need to use brute force to get things to work the way they are supposed to. Not something I want them to try until *after* they call technical support, are told it's working as designed, then not covered by warranty . . . then he can beat on it . . .
Customer Review: All that I hoped it would be! Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I bought this toy for our 8 1/2 month old son for Christmas this year. After reading some of the reviews I was hesitant, but we bought it anyway. I am so happy that we did. My son hasn't stopped playing with it. He loves to hold the roll-around balls and bang them together. After we showed him how to put the balls in the four holes, he started to do it on his own. He gets so excited when the music and lights go on and he loves to watch the balls shoot down the slide or fall down the stairs. It's worth it just to see him laugh and smile and clap his hands when the music comes on. It was EXTREMELY easy to put together -which was a definite plus!(You only had to put the two side pieces on) And if the balls are getting stuck, take the piece off and try it again- this happened to us. There are also three little toy pieces that snap on. (2 snap in at the top and one fits right over the side with the stairs) These aren't really important but my son loves to play with the one over the stairs and tries to reach for the ones at the top all the time. This toy definitely keeps him entertained (and it's cute too!) It's definitely worth buying...I'm so glad we did!
Customer Review: Baby Girl Loves It! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this product for my daughter when she was 7months old. At the time she wasn't able to enjoy it by herself because I couldn't get her to put the balls in the hole. However, when she watched me do it, she would light up with joy and even dance along when the music played and lights flashed. As I watched her watch me, I could see the learning going on in her head. Any mother knows that look on their childs face when they're taking things in and making connections. I love that look! She's 11 months now and can fully enjoy it while I watch from a distance. I can see such a look of accomplishment on her face when she realizes that she can make the music play when she wants to. What better way to display cause and effect? Plus, as rough a child as she is...she hasn't destroyed it. I honestly thought the little projections on the top and the little butterfly on the tail would have been broken off long ago. But they're still holding on! And lastly, the price was good. I got it brand new for $27.88! I did some price comparison beforehand and at the time found it in some places for over $40.
Customer Review: 4 and 2 yr.old entertained, but NOT for this price! Summary: 5 Stars
My very busy son got this when he could only sit up and absolutely loved this toy. When he got older, this actually helped him stand, as he held onto the back side of the dinosaur (without the toy falling over!). It kept him entertained longer than any other toy he had(i.e. cars, blocks, sorters). Of course the balls sometimes got stuck in the middle hole, but that was because he shoved 3-5 balls consecutively at a time through the hole. Plus, he learned to maneuver the ball around the pendulum and get it out himself anyways.
At 2, I would catch him trying to walk along the stairside of the dinosaur, and this toy STILL held up. He would bend the creatures atop the dinosaur, and grab at the twirling butterfly, and it STILL held up amazingly well. Now at 4 years old, he was still entertained by it when I brought it out for his 1 y/o sister to play with.
But, BEWARE this price? Are you serious? Who is buying this and is this a typo? Go to your online BIDding source, and get one for [...]!!! Or check your online LISTing source. What a scam!
