Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Soothe and Glow Seahorse BlueCustomer Review: Incredible! Worth every penny! Summary: 5 Stars
We just received this yesterday and decided to try it out last night when our 8 month old son woke up at 2:30AM. He was wide awake after a particularly involved diaper change, and when we handed him the seahorse, he immediately grabbed it, snuggled up, and went to sleep. To give you some perspective, this is the first time in 8 months that he has put himself to sleep, and as I write the review this morning, he is taking a nap, having once again put himself to sleep with his seahorse. My only regret is that it took us so long to come across this item and buy it! For those of you who (like myself) don't bother reading instructions, the one thing worth noting is that we felt the loud setting (which it was switched to when it arrived) is too loud for an infant's ears. Easily fixed by flipping the switch inside the toy to the softer volume level, but definitely something to keep in mind. Don't sit on the fence, just buy it. One solid night's sleep is easily worth it, and I would have paid three or four times the price for something this effective.
Customer Review: Great for training baby to sleep in crib! Summary: 5 Stars
I have never taken the time to write a review before but I just have to for this seahorse. My daughter (4 months) loves her seahorse. She has the pink one of course. :-) This seahorse has helped me train her to go back to sleep after her during-the-night feedings and keeps her content when I lay her down for bedtime. It plays soothing ocean music for about 5 minutes and its tummy glows. It does not have any loose parts or strings so it is safe to keep in her crib. When I turn the seahorse on, she smiles at it and reaches out toward its belly (I keep it all the way against the wall of her crib so she can just barely touch it with her finger tips). I guess my only wish was that it played music longer because I sometimes need to go back in and turn it on once or twice until she goes to sleep but she does NOT cry! I know every baby is different but this lil' guy is worth a try. Much more successful to me than a mobile (which I have tried the traditional mobile and one that projects scenes on the ceiling.) She just prefers her seahorse.
Customer Review: My go to baby shower present- was amazing for my baby! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought 3 for ourselves, it was THAT effective! (one for upstairs, downstairs and in the car)
It is also our go-to gift when someone tells us they are expecting.
My son had a hard time with diaper changes, and this toy really helped. He loved the yellow glowing tummy (he will stare forever at the yellow light), the bubble noises were quite soothing as well as the music. He also enjoyed staring at the face of the seahorse. The first time we used it, he wasn't thrilled, but by the third time, he loved it.
We also use it to start his routine to go to sleep. We would make up words to the classical songs and sang them to him... and he really responded. When he would wake in the middle of the night, all we had to do was touch the tummy and after the music started he would calm right down and go to sleep.
BEHOLD the POWER of the SEAHORSE!
And the best part, when you want to stop the music, just press the tummy of the seahorse!
Customer Review: LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely adore the fisher-price glowing seahorse! I bought one for my daughter because she was having trouble falling back to sleep during the night and she stimulates easily so I didn't want to get a bright and noisey music box. She very quickly attatched to the seahorse and it was very easy for her to turn it on herself and after only a few nights she was turning the seahorse on herself in the middle of the night and going back to sleep all by herself!! So then I went and bought another one for my son who is 2 so he could have something to go into a toddler bed with him, and he loves his seahorse too! The only reason I gave it a four for durability is because the silky fin on the back is starting to fray a little bit already, but I think it's because my daughter unvelcro's the back all the time and it rubs on the silky fabric. I just wish I had realized how wonderful this little seahorse was sooner! I will definitely be getting more of these for any other children I have in the future!
Customer Review: It's BRIGHT and LOUD (you can fix that...), and great to use as a flashlight in the crib! Summary: 5 Stars
It really is a cute little toy, but when I first tried it out, it was SOOO bright and loud, WAY too much to be soothing, at least to MY little one! I just can't imagine it wouldn't wake your child up MORE if he or she were trying to soothe themselves to sleep....Anyway, there's an easy fix for that - DUCT TAPE! I put some over most of the speaker, and put a couple of strips over the belly (obviously on the plastic insert that's INSIDE the outer cloth cover, NOT on the outside of the toy!!), and it's been great since! Yes, there IS a volume control (also on the insert), but it's STILL too loud! I've had it in my daughter's crib since she was tiny (it's not really plush, so I had no fears of her rolling up against it and suffocating), and I've seen her play with it from time to time, but mostly I've used it myself as a convenient flashlight - when I go in to check on her, if I need to find a paci, adjust her blanket, etc. Would definitely recommend it (with the above adjustments)!
