Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Soothe and Glow Seahorse BlueCustomer Review: WONDERFUL soother for toddler Summary: 5 Stars
We adopted our son at 18 months of age and it was a very difficult transition for him, leaving his birth country and his foster family. Needless to say, sleepy time was hard for him and we co-slept with him for the first five months. Once he was more secure, we began putting him down in his bed at night without us. It was terrible. Many tears - both his and mine. And I ended up not being able to put him down by himself because it was just too distressing for him. I bought the Soothe and Glow Seahorse on a whim, hoping it might help soothe him at night. WOW - what a shock I got when the first night I gave it to him, he went to sleep in his room by himself before the music was done playing! He has successfully been going to sleep on his own now for over a month, and he instantly reaches for his seahorse to comfort him. I am actually going to order another one so we have an extra, just in case something would happen to this one....
This is a great product - the music is soft, the glow of the light is soft and not too bright and the seahorse itself feels soft (not like there's something bulky in it). He understands that he can turn it off and on by pushing gently on its belly. It plays for around five minutes and shuts itself off, but we hear him playing it some nights for two or three sessions before we don't hear it anymore.
I highly recommend the Soothe and Glow seahorse! I only wish it had been around when my two older boys were this age!
Customer Review: Saved my life! Summary: 5 Stars
This review is for all of you people out there that have unhappy babies! I had an unexpected third child. Let me tell you she's a piece of work! She definitely wasn't one of those happy babies. She's very demanding and never happy with anything. I felt like I was losing my mind. I couldn't even go shopping, she'd cry and I mean pitch a complete fit. One day I was walking around Target and picked up this Seahorse. I pushed the belly, and it played soothing music. I think that she was 2-3 months old. She immediately stopped crying! No Joke! I walked around and had to keep pushing the belly as it has one of those plastic pieces that have to be pulled out for it to play longer. She was happy as long as the seahorse played it tunes. I put it down and would pick it up each time I wanted to shop in Target. I wouldn't buy it 'cause I figured that it was a fluke and I'd get it home only to find out that she wouldn't want anything more to do with it. One day I forgot to tell the cashier to put it back and I accidentally purchased it. I contemplated taking it back and then thought that it was cheap enough and I'd just keep it. It was one of the best things I've even gotten her. We called it her best friend. She'd be screaming mad, we turn on her best friend and she'd calm down and fall asleep. No baby is too young for this. You just turn it on and lay it next to the baby. It's truly awesome!!!!!
Customer Review: hard time with chaging the batteries Summary: 1 Stars
We got this as a present for our 6 months old baby. She seems to like looking at the light although the music (even when turned down to the lowest setting) is too loud for her to fall asleep to. However, it does make a good crib toy because when she wakes up she can easily activate the seahorse on her own (usually by accident)and that keeps her entertained. After two weeks of use, the music started to sounded off due to the batteries running low. When I opened the back area, I found that the battery compartment is incredibly hard to access because it is partually under the sewn area. You have to keep prying it open with one hand while unscrewing with the other...holding the doll between your knee as best you can. Even after all that effort, I found that the screw just wont come apart. It seems to stay attach to a piece of plastic no matter how many times I turn the screw. So I was unable to change the batteries after only using this toy for 2 weeks.
I went to Fischer-Price's website looking for a soltuion. After reading some of the reviews there, it seems having a difficult time changing the batteries for this toy is a common problem and no real solution other than returning it to the store for an exchange. We are unable to return this toy because we do not have a gift receipt so this has just become another stuff toy. Very disappointing.
Customer Review: A hit in our house Summary: 5 Stars
The Seahorse is a hit among our boys.
The Good:
1. It's Washable!!! HUGE plus here. All you do is slide out the inner machine and then just wash the outer skin. Cannot say how much I love this feature!!!!
2. It has volume control, soft or loud
3. It is self timed. No worry of battery replacement ever other day.
4. So simple for even the youngest of kids to figure out how to restart the light and sound. Just press the soft belly.
5. Has two color options, the blue which is shown and also you can buy a pink model.
6. The light is soft... not a crazy bright light
7. The fabric cover is soft and comfy.
8. I grew up with the glow worm and I have to say, the face lighting up was kinda scary to me, a soft round belly is much more comforting!
The Bad:
1. If you leave the Seahorse in the bed it can be set off repetedly by little rolling bodies. I have since pulled our boys Seahorses out of their beds and placed them right next to the their beds when I go to bed. They learned quickly that if they did wake up in the night they could just reach down by their bed and grab their Seahorse.
2. Is a little on the small side. Perfect size for 1-2 and starts getting a tiny bit small for 3 and up.
No other bad!!!
We love the Seahorse and our kids would not go to bed without it!!!
Customer Review: Midnight miracle... Summary: 5 Stars
Judging by the hugely receptive response this product has earned on this site, I'd have to say that I am not the only one adoring this thing. The fact remains that this little guy has saved my nights. Having a 6-month little angel is hard work enough, but having one that wakes up every hour or two and needs to be coddled back to sleep is even harder. My nights were dragging on and on and my workweek was becoming ineffective. Then my wife found this little guy and thought it would prove handy. Our daughter loves this toy we have in her car seat that plays music, and it is the only way to calm her down during long car rides. The only hitch is that it plays about 30 seconds worth of music. This guy plays for 5 whole minutes. Having this seahorse in the house has made sleeping so much easier. Placing my daughter in her crib and tucking this guy in beside her, she's out before the music fades. When she startles in the middle of the night and starts searching for me to comfort her, I can reach over the press the seahorse's tummy and she's almost instantaneously asleep. It is that soothing. Even I enjoy the music! The soft ocean sounds and sweetly paced music make this bedtime accompaniment a total MUST HAVE for any newly budding family. I only wish I had this when my eldest was little.
