Customer Review: Best glowing infant soother, hands down

For my son's first Christmas, December 2009, he received this toy as a gift from his aunt. I had actually purchased him the glow worm, so I was a little peeved at first, since I viewed the glow worm as the "classic." I am exceedingly pleased to admit how very wrong I was!
My son was horrible in the car. And when I say horrible, I mean that he screamed from the moment he was in the car seat until the moment we took him out. At night, we had to leave the lights on as we drove or he would scream so hard, he'd make himself hoarse. Enter Fisher-Price Soothe and Glow Seahorse. From the first moment turned it on for him that very first time, it brought him smiles and instant, soothing comfort... and it even worked in the car. It worked in his bed when he'd wake several times a night. It worked whenever he was screaming from colic. It worked when nothing else would to soothe him back to sleep.
He is now 1 1/2 years old, and he calls it his "baby." He cuddles it, carries it around, and can easily work it himself at this point. I hear it over the monitor in the middle of the night; when he stirs, he no longer cries or calls out, he just turns his "baby" back on and settles back down.
I purchased one for my new nephew for his first Christmas this past year. It has definitely become my baby gift of choice, and every single person I know who has one has a baby or toddler who is absolutely in love with it. I have a 3 1/2 year old as well who wants one for his own... and another little sweet pea on the way, and I am planning on purchasing two more for them as well.
As for the toy itself, it plays THE most soothing songs I have EVER heard for a children's/baby toy. I love the watery bubbly sounds mixed in the songs. I love the glow of the light; not too obnoxious, but just bright enough. I appreciate the way that it fades on and fades off, in both light and sound. I think the sound level choices are appropriate. I turn it up when he's running around playing and down to the lower setting when he's cuddling it close at night.
I just cannot say enough about this toy. If you have an infant of any age... or you are considering this product for someone who does... you will absolutely not be disappointed. It is well worth the cost for the comfort it provides. And DON'T choose the glow worm over this... and that's coming from a former glow worm supporter. Our glow worm that was purchased that Christmas is packed away with the rest of the unused baby toys... the Seahorse, however, is currently being cuddled. :)

I received this as a gift for my 4 week old daughter. As an infant, it helped her go to sleep immediately and the soft glow was just enough light that I could peek on her and see if she was still asleep or awake without overhead lights.
My daughter turns 1 year next week. We are STILL using this toy every night, like we have been for the past year. I've replaced the batteries once. Also, the soft (it is so, so soft) body comes off (internal mechanics with batteries, light, and music are completely removable) and it did great through a cycle in our washing machine when she spit-up on it.
Now that my daughter is older, she loves to hug it to her body to switch it on and off. She also enjoys feeling the texture on the fins and chewing on them (they are like little tags on the body). It has really helped her with cause and effect since she now knows how to turn it on and off on her own. I like how when you turn it on right after it was turned off, it will play on the song where you turned it off instead of starting over. After a few minutes of being off, it will reset and start at the beginning of the sound track the next time you turn it on. Sometimes in the morning my husband and I will hear the music begin softly behind her door (it's VERY soft - we strain to hear it behind closed doors) before she is out of bed and we hear her cooing and talking to her "friend" after she turns it on.
The music is so soft and soothing and the light is pretty and not too bright. My daughter takes hers to daycare to sleep with and the teacher said all the other children love it and are always trying to take it and play with it. Also, this is an inexpensive toy that makes a great shower gift. Even my 3 year old likes to borrow this toy sometimes to go to bed.
Love it! Get one for your child or give one as a gift - the recipient will not be disappointed!

I don't usually write reviews, but felt compelled to write one about the Fisher Price seahorse, since I decided to buy one based on the reviews here, and am absolutely glad I did.
This seahorse has been a blessing to us when our nearly-three-year-old refused to sleep at night for fear of the "ghosts in the trees" (I have no idea where he got it from, but it made night time hell).
I got the seahorse a couple of nights ago and he adores it. We told him tree-ghosts don't dare come near seahorses, and he's slept like a baby. Sometimes I hear him turning on the music at night, and when he wakes up, he's snuggling it tight and even kissing the seahorse.
The music it plays is indeed very soothing (so much so that my husband wouldn't mind having a seahorse of his own) and can be turned off by pressing the belly for a few seconds (it took a while to figure that part out).
Sadly enough I couldn't order one from Amazon. I tried on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.fr (I live in Belgium, there is no Belgian Amazon). Both times at checkout I received a message saying this item could not be shipped to my country, with a link to a page that explains certain items cannot be shipped, bust most items can. Among the items that can be shipped without problems, is baby gear and toys... So I don't understand what was going on there.
Luckily I did manage to find a seahorse in a local toystore. They only had the pink ones, which disturbs my son less than it does his father :-)
I hope I'll manage to find a blue one somewhere, as I'm definitely buying a second seahorse for the new baby boy that's due any day now!

We weren't crazy about the seahorse at first. Our son didn't really care for it even at 3-months, but we had it, we used it, and we left it sitting in my son's crib for months (we got the horse when he was born). I know people are going to roll their eyes, but we do family bed and our 7-month old sleeps with us. At first we wanted to be in the badwagon with everyone else, but we can't sleep without our little guy. We used to wait for him to be sleepy before we put him to bed, sometimes we'd be up until midnight even though I had to get up at 6 am to get to work. However, we now have a routine thanks to our magical seahorse. We suddenly found the seahorse again, just lying in our son's crib, so one night we grabbed him and played it for our son when he was about five months old, and he fell asleep looking at the light. The music's not too loud for us, but I like to have it on when I'm washing my face and brushing my teeth (electrical brushes make noise) before bed. The music drowns out the noise we make when we're getting ready for bed, so it really helps, whereas before our little guy would wake up, sit up and wait for us to come to bed - and it would be another hour before he fell asleep. Now, we just put him to bed after bath time, give him some milk, play the horse and he falls asleep watching his fingers touching the horse's light. It gives mommy and daddy couple time between 9 pm and midnight for us to catch up with our shows, watch a netflix, or simply have some ice cream cozied up in the livingroom.
Our son loves his horsey and won't sleep without it.
Customer Review: BEST BABY SOOTHER AND SLEEP INDUCER

Don't underestimate this toy! It looked cute but silly to me but I had no idea how useful it could be. My 4-month-old son is absolutely fascinated by it. As parents of a baby who doesn't want to fall asleep, we feel this seahorse is our baby's "kryptonite." He's not able to grab it or hold it yet so we have to hold it in front of him or lay it down next to him but I have no doubt he'll be carrying it around with him as soon as he can. The first time we turned it on in the dark (it glows and plays lullabies), our baby stared at the seahorse in total wonder. His eyes were riveted, he couldn't or wouldn't look away. It was the cutest thing watching him stare at the seahorse. After 10 minutes of pushing him in his stroller while holding the seahorse in front of him, he drifted off to sleep. The 2nd time we used the seahorse, I rocked my son to sleep in my arms, in the dark again so that the seahorse would really grab his attention, while holding it in front of him. His eyes were once again fixated on the toy and he fell asleep in 5 minutes. I put my son in his crib to sleep and he woke up crying after 30 minutes. I tried to soothe him with his pacifier and patting him on the chest but he continued to cry. I turned on the seahorse and put it down in the crib next to him. He instantly stopped crying as soon as he saw the seahorse, stared at it and fell back to sleep! I couldn't believe it! Nothing we tried in the past had worked this well. I would highly recommend trying this toy to any parent who has difficulties putting their baby to sleep.
