Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher Price Little People a Christmas Story (White Shipper Box)

Customer Review: Is that what Christmas is about, a "better" flashier manger
Summary: 5 Stars

I did the same thing a few other people did. I ordered this thinking it would light up, play music and come in a collector box. I was surprised when it arrived in a white box and was more surprised when it didn't light up and play music. When I came back to the Amazon site to check the description I caught my error. Amazon's description is what I received, but then where did I read that it lights up and plays music....on the Fisher Price website. It comes up on their site as "Catalog Exclusive" but is a deluxe set which is $30.00 plus $6.95 shipping. The deluxe set has additional pieces, hay for the animals and some fence pieces. I read the description there, toggled over to Amazon, saw the "Exclusive" and just assumed it was the same. Tsk, tsk on my part. All in all there was no harm done. I bought this to help my friend keep her one year old daughter away from their Christmas tree and the traditional manger set. I showed it to my daughter, who is three, and she wanted to put it in her room immediately! She likes it either way. I thought of buying the deluxe set for my friend and keeping this set for my daughter, but when dealing with a manger (of all things) it just doesn't seem right to consider this product inferior. Don't feel cheated, take the $15.00 difference and buy the book "The Christmas Star" by Marcus Pfister as a companion to the manger set. Reading to a child about the star of Bethlehem, and acting out the story with the manger set, will stick with them longer than the 5 seconds they spend staring at the musical star.

Customer Review: Greatest Christmas Toy Ever!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Because we often get caught up in the lights, and hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, this toy is SO important. It is a great chance for little ones to not only take time to learn more about the true meaning of Christmas, but to make it real by experiencing it!

I bought the collectors edition of this toy, the first year it came out, and all year long it stays packed up with our Christmas stuff. But just like this year, when we pull it all down from the attic, this toy is one of the first things unpacked. This year, it won my children's affection over decorating the tree! We keep it out, for the kids to play with all season long, but then pack it away (to keep the novelty) for the remainder of the year.

Like every other Little People toy, it is sturdy, colorful, and appropriate for little ones. While the little people may not be as accurate as some people might like (one review suggested a more authentic Joseph) - it gets the point across to the pre-school set, and gives them something to really relate to.

My 17 month old daughter loves the angel, and my 3 1/2 year old son re-enacts the angel visiting the wise men.

What a fantastic toy. Maybe with Fisher Price creating toys like this, we'll see other major toy manufacturers follow suit!

Customer Review: More then just a teaching toy for the True Christmas Meaning
Summary: 5 Stars

No Christian home should be without this set! My three boys now 4, 3 and 8 months love the Little People Toys. We started out buying a few sets for our middle son back in 2002 and last year when I saw this set was coming out I made it my goal to get it regardless of any other set series that year. This set is more then just a Christmas teaching toy during the holidays for the family. This set along with the Noah's Ark Set has been a valuable teaching toy in my primary and nursery children classes at my church. Being Latter-Day Saints we have Family Home Evening each week and these toys make it fun for our children to participate in teaching us the stories as well as using the people as other characters in other stories from the Bible and our Book of Mormon. Regardless of your Christian Religion this is a MUST HAVE for any Family. My children love it, it's something they can actually play with and I don't have to worry about them breaking it like other holiday decorations around the home, and it also helps remind them the true meaning of Christmas as they play. (It also helps my 8 month old who is now crawling have something to play with under the tree rather then pulling off my ornaments.)

Customer Review: Excellent Nativity Set for Children
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the perfect nativity set for children. Ours are 4 and 1 and love playing with it which also keeps them from trying to play with our "real" ceramic nativity set. This set has no music or lights which is absolutely, perfect for this nativity set. Not only does it not require batteries, but it makes no sounds and actually lets your children use their own imagination. Also, the box is "plain and white" but it does have Little People pictures on it and I don't understand why some reviewers want a color box with photo. Just open the darn thing - it's just a box for goodness sake. Finally, some people have issues with the characters. Sure one of the 3 kings is a girl and there may be a Joseph/Shepard question, but it you look closely (and if you know who the Little People are) these characters are actually the Little People characters dressed up for a Nativity scene (the angel is Eddie, the girl king is Sonya). If you want a fancy, electronic, historically accurate toy in a colorful box, maybe this isn't the one for you, but I think this set is perfect the way it is.

Customer Review: Great Christmas Toy, But Lacks Historical Accuracy
Summary: 4 Stars

My daughter of three years was thrilled beyond words to have a "kid's nativity" of her very own. Her joy soon turned to disappointment when she discovered that the toy did not accurately represent the real nativity story. . . there was no Joseph, the angel looked like a baby, Baby Jesus had a crown ("how did he get a crown?"), and one of the three wise men was a GIRL, not a boy!!!!!! She also thought that the stable should be larger so that all of the pieces could fit inside and visit Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. "This wasn't made right," stated my daughter. A little girl very attentive to detail, she decided that Mom's porcelain nativity set with the large stable was a much better "toy." Despite her disappointment over the the lack of historical accuracy, this toy is a keeper and a wonderful one for those outside of the "type A personality" category. I also recommend the Beginner's Bible video entitled "The Nativity."
