Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Learning Puppy

Customer Review: annoying, hyper-reactive, and toxic
Summary: 1 Stars

I'll admit outright that i'm not big on battery-operated toys. I take the batteries out of almost every gift given to my 1-year-old. This toy may be one of the most annoying for the two minutes it took me to deactivate it. The voice is syrupy-sweet, downright cloying.

As many other reviews have mentioned, it's also extremely sensitive. The lightest touch makes the puppy start singing or talking. (However, for the people who like this toy except for the fact that it'll randomly start singing in the middle of the night, there is a physical off switch under the shirt in the back. Turn it off at bedtime, and your problem is solved.)

Lastly, the reason i've taken this toy away even though it has no batteries anymore: New York Public Interest Research Group found that this toy has high levels of bromine and low levels of mercury, both toxic. I didn't like seeing my kid hug and chew on this toy knowing it contains toxic elements.

Customer Review: annoying dog
Summary: 1 Stars

My sister-in-law gave this to my daughter for her 1st birthday. The recorded voice on the dog is so cloying and syrupy sweet it can give you cavities just listening to it. Maybe others wouldn't mind that over-eager baby voice because a lot of kid products feature similar voices, but that's not the only problem. The real issue is that there's no way to truly turn it off. If you touch the OFF button on its foot is says "bye bye!" but then if you touch any ear, paw, nose etc. it goes right back into action saying "it's learning time!" or "got my nose, woof woof!" It's NEVER off. There's no turning it off. I've bumped into it crossing the baby's room in the dark after checking her in the night and the dang thing starts playing the "itsy bitsy spider" song at full bore -- of course my child sits up screaming in fright. I think the product is ill-conceived and if you are the sort of person who doesn't appreciate that kiddie voice, it WILL drive you nuts.

Customer Review: Great puppy! Favorite toy!
Summary: 4 Stars

My now 17 months twin boys got this toy at about 1 years old. They loved it then. Especially the songs. Even now they play with it many times through the day. They'll dance to Head Shoulders Knees and Toes and the I Love You song. They clap to If You're Happy and You Know It and a few of the other songs. One of my boys will randomly hug this dog tightly and walk around with it through the house. One boy learned to point to his head and toes because of this dog's games!

I only gave it 4 stars only because within a couple of days of gentle play (at 1 years old, they weren't playing rough yet), the ear no longer works. I wish it was a little more durable as far as the wire connections go. It was a gift, and I didn't have a return receipt so I could not return it unfortunately. They still love it, and I enjoy listening to the songs as well. I would highly recommend this toy to anyone looking for something both cute and educational.

Customer Review: Broken ear, but being replaced by Fisher Price
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this puppy for my 6 month old for Christmas. He loves it, and it keeps him entertained. After just three weeks the ear button stopped working. He was never rough with it, and used it as any 6 month old would. Of course I was more upset then he was about the ear,he's too young to notice, but eventually I was going to us it to teach him his body parts. I wasn't surprised to read the reviews on here and discover many others with the same problem, because I knew I couldn't be the only one.

I just got off the phone with Fisher Price. The customer service rep was very nice. I told her what happened, and she asked for my shipping address, she apologized about the ear breaking, and said she was sending out a replacement puppy right away.

The puppy is still adorable, but I am glad to be getting a new one. Hopefully by now they have fixed the ear issue, and I won't end up with a broken ear again.

Customer Review: My daughter loves it but it has some issues.
Summary: 3 Stars

I got this toy for my daughter when she was 4 months old. She's 11 months old now and it's still one of her favorite toys but it has some issues. Like other reviewers said, it's too sensitive and the only way to hear an entire song or phrase is to hold the dog perfectly still. If there is pressure anywhere near a pressure point, or any motion at all, it skips from phrase to song to song to phrase. I don't know how educational it can be if she can never hear what it is supposed to say. It will also start singing when it's sitting in the toy box. It freaks me out when it's midnight, no one has been anywhere near the dog for hours and it starts singing. There's a switch under the velcro in the back so if you buy this toy, make sure you turn the dog off when your kid is done playing with it. Otherwise it's a bit like Chucky. My daughter would give the dog five stars. I would give it one. So I put the rating in the middle.
