Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Learning PuppyCustomer Review: Nightmare on Squeeky Toy Street Summary: 1 Stars
I am not a fan of talking and singing toys in general; but this toy is extra, super, seriously challenging to the adult brain. The sound quality is ok and the sounds and songs are trite and silly "I love you" "Yellow foot", but the real problem is that the toy is over-sensitive. If my 16 month old (or I for that matter) start the dog a singing a tune -- then any other hair of a movement might depress another appendage of the mutt -- and then the tune will change, mid-stream. Which means that if your toddler is carrying around this toy -- the dog will be schizophrenic stopping and starting songs and sayings and the like. Most toys like this are almost "too hard" for a 16 month old to push to make the sounds work -- but this is exactly the opposite. Of course every time the dog starts making noise, my daughter wants to hug it or pick it up -- which just makes the dog change its mantra, over and over -- interrupting itself... But it is very funny and over the top and if you can handle the sensory overload-- it is pretty silly. But it was a gift, and I feel really bad publishing this -- what if they see?!
Customer Review: Still one of her favored toys Summary: 5 Stars
NB: I don't have the version where the collar lights up but mine has red shirt with letters A-B-C repeated as a pattern.
My daughter got this for Christmas 2007, she was 10th months. She loves the songs/music and it helped her learn her alphabet and few nursery rhymes (she learnt the tune way before the letters but she still sings with her "doggy"). There is a button to switch off, low volume and high volume so little cause for irritation. The knobs in the nose and ear went after a year - understand the ear because sometimes she held it by the ear, but don't know why the nose quit. She has a lot of hugs and cuddles for him still. Actually now putting in 2nd set of batteries - and I've left it on numerous times.
I know some parents complained that the songs are interrupted by the slightest touch and that's true but I believe it has taught her cause and effect as well as patience: if one of her favourites are playing and she bounces it and it stops or changes she figured out how to get it back and she doesn't touch it until she's enjoyed her song; she knows how to get it to play again too.
Customer Review: Too sensitive and doesn't sit by itself Summary: 3 Stars
My daughter got this as a Christmas gift, and overall it has been a disappointment.
The good:
1) The voice is pleasant and volume is appropriate.
2) The toy seems well-built and durable.
3) My daughter loves seeing the red heart light up and blink with the sound.
The bad:
1) The sensors, especially the orange foot (which happens to be the on/off switch), are WAY too sensitive. The baby can't play with each part of the toy without hitting that foot on accident.
2) The toy cannot sit up bu itself, making it awkward for my daughter to play with. I usually prop the puppy up, so that my daughter can access all of the interactive sections of the toy. However...
3) Most of the time, my daughter gets frustrated when she tries to press an ear or hand. Since the orange foot gets pressed at the slightest nudge as she leans towards the toy, her interaction with the toy is negated and her effort is meaningless. Because of this, I have to play with the toy and have her watch me.
This toy will most likely not be played with very often.
Customer Review: Adorable and long-lasting Summary: 5 Stars
My son got this cute little puppy as a gift Christmas 2006. Now a year a half later, it's still going strong - no problems, no broken chips, no non-working parts. AND, it's one of the precious few toys that he STILL has interest in. He was under a year when he got it, is now over 2 years old, and will still pick him up and press the body parts and say the colors and names and stuff. (His favorite is making the puppy sneeze! Very cute.) He doesn't really actively play with him anymore - he's a bit too old now - but he DOES still mess with him briefly and will NOT let me donate him as we do with some of his other outgrown toys.
Now, okay, he's gentle with his stuffed animals generally and this little guy hasn't been abused or played with hard, but we haven't had ANYthing go wrong in this year and half that we've had him.
The "long-lasting" in my title not only meant durability, but long-lasting interest, too. That last part is the most amazing to me. Wish more toys kept his interest this long.
Definitely a good choice for a little one!
Customer Review: We love it! Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter and I are in love with this toy!
I was SO lucky recently to find this toy in a thrift shop for FIFTY CENTS in perfect condition! However, knowing now how much my one-year-old loves it I would pay double the list price to get it!
Some people complain about how easily the buttons activate but I think that is a major plus because babies have trouble pressing less sensitive buttons. I know my daughter has similar toys that she still has trouble activating.
There are buttons all over the toy's body, they have many different responses and tons of songs. My little girl carries him around by his ears and dances to his songs. I'm even falling a little in love with him when he says sweet things like "I love you," "You're my friend," "Hug me!"
My 17-month-old nephew got this when he was 5 months old and my brother says he basically ignores it because he's had it so long. Maybe he'll take a renewed interest in it, I dunno. This is toy is now my one-year-old's best friend and I don't see her losing interest anytime soon.
