Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher Price Kid-Tough Digital Camera for GirlsCustomer Review: A fun, but useless *toy* Summary: 2 StarsMy 3-year-old and 4-year-old LOVE this camera. They have learned exactly how to use it and actually do a great job with it -- so it is educational. It is also very durable and has survived a few falls. However, the picture quality is SO bad that the pictures are completely useless! They come out grainy, yellowed, and either too dark or over exposed. (I can't believe some of the customer photos on this page were taken with the same kind of camera we have because they are MUCH better!) It's a shame too because the kids have actually gotten some really great shots that I wish had been taken with a better camera....
Customer Review: Fun with pictures!!! Summary: 5 StarsWe recently purchased this camera for our daughter's third birhday. She loves it!!! It is so easy to use. The pictures actually come out nice. They are a lot better then we expected! The photo program that comes with the camera is excellent!! It is easy to use and fun to created slide shoews with the kids! I would definately recomend this to anyone!!
Customer Review: We love this toy camera! Summary: 5 StarsI bought this camera for my granddaughter for her sixth birthday. She has always wanted to "take a turn" with my digital camera, and now she has her own! When she opened it on her birthday she said "Is this a real camera?!" She immediately started taking pictures and she knows how to look at the pictures and delete the ones she doesn't like. I help her download them on the computer so she can see them big and when we print them, they really turn out well. I was surprised that the pictures are actually as good as they are with this being a toy. I bought rechargable batteries and a memory card. The batteries last a very long time and with the small memory card, the camera can hold over a thousand pictures before it is full. We love this and I will buy it for all of my other grandchildren too!
Customer Review: Great Camera Summary: 5 StarsMy three-year-old loves this camera. It holds about 80 pictures and about 10 of those 80 are really good shots, good enough to add to my family photo collection. It's easy for her to handle and it's great fun. We take it with us when we go on outings and when she gets restless I pull out the camera and that keeps her busy for about an hour (lifetime for a 3-year-old). Also, it's really easy to delete the 70 pics that aren't good enough to keep.
Customer Review: Perfect first camera for little hands Summary: 5 StarsWe bought this camera for my daughter's birthday because she was dying to have a digital camera like everyone else in the family. We put batteries and the SD card in before we gave it to her and, as we expected, she started taking pictures the second she opened the package. With only a few instructions on how to use the buttons, our little photographer was busy snapping away. (When my oldest heard how many pictures this camera would store, she was jealous because her older camera isn't SD capable.) My six year old has snapped hundreds and hundreds pictures and we have yet to need to change the batteries. The pictures also download very easily onto the computer. She took it to school with her the next day and let the children on the playground take turns using it. Therefore, I can also say that children from age 3 and up can easily use this camera.
The picture quality is not "professional" but this does not bother us. Given her age, the vast majority of the shots are not "keepers" anyway. (And unlike when my oldest got her first camera, I do not have to pay a fortune for developing film.) My daughter is very quickly learning how to hold the camera steady thanks to the sound the camera makes when she pushes the shutter button and the ability to see her shots quickly on the computer. As she does this, her picture quality is getting much better. The flash isn't very strong, so outdoor pictures are of better quality than indoor...but indoor shots are still adequate.
The LCD screen is very small but to be honest my daughter only wants to look at it to see if the picture is there. She "evaluates" whether or not she wants to keep the photograph when it is displayed on the computer.
The one drawback is that the batteries can be a little bit of a production to put in, but as I said before that does not seem to be something we have to do very often. (And she uses the camera constantly.) However, I also appreciate the fact that younger children could not open that compartment.
This camera is extremely tough, very easy to use, and battery friendly. The LCD screen, while not extremely clear, does show the picture and gives the immediate feedback that children love. The grips are generous and make holding the camera easy. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone who is thinking about getting a first camera for a young child.
