Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher Price Kid-Tough Digital Camera for BoysCustomer Review: Don't waste your money. Summary: 1 Stars
We bought this camera for our 3 1/2 year old son for Christmas and were trying it out before we wrapped it. We were severely disappointed [...]. Here are our opinions of the camera:
Pros: sturdy, rubber casing and a two-eye viewer so your child knows which side of the camera to look into.
Cons: The LCD screen is very poor quality (ever tried to look through fogged up glasses and can't distinguish what you are looking at?). The camera only takes 72 dpi photos at roughly a 6x8" output size so yes, you could probably turn them into 3.5x5" prints, but the quality will still be terrible. The flash is automatic on every photo, but only brightens within two feet of the camera. The photos we took of each other within three feet turned out okay, but the photos of the room or anything more than four feet were just black fuzz. The camera itself had flaws. There were obvious fingerprints and large scratches on the inside of the plastic view windows, and several paint scratches and "smudges" on the camera body.
[...] This is probably the first time we've been disappointed with a Fisher-Price product.
Customer Review: Best toy I've seen in a long time Summary: 5 Stars
Our 5 year old son absolutely loves this camera! I really like that it is very simple to use without a lot of unnecessary features. This keeps the frustration level to a minimum and is very empowering for my son. Specifically, I like that it automatically turns off after a few minutes, that it is easy (but not too easy) to delete pictures and that there aren't the usual and annoying loud noises or "music" that seem to be part of every child's toy these days. I also would have never purchased this if I thought it couldn't stand up to some tough treatment. That was definitely the selling point for me. Considering all this, I don't mind that the picture quality isn't that of a really expensive adult camera. We keep the camera at the higher resolution setting and find it to be just fine. We were initially hesitant to purchase this camera after reading that the picture quality isn't good, but I find it to be perfectly appropriate for a child's camera. Overall, I would highly recommend this as a first camera for any child.
Customer Review: Good for kids who keep asking for your camera Summary: 4 Stars
Our son has always wanted to use our digital camera to take pictures (hence why the battery door has to be duct taped closed). We've been looking to get him one for awhile but none of the low resolution ones had an LCD screen and he loves looking at the photos right after he takes them. When we saw this one, we decided to get it for him for his 5th birthday and he really enjoys it.
However, don't expect great photos. He has a real hard time keeping the camera steady even with the two hand grips and so most of his photos are blurry. He also tends to move the camera while he's taking the photo. This will take some training. The flash isn't very powerful for really dark settings but the camera does well outside. Loading photos onto your computer is easy. The USB port connection makes the camera look like just another USB flash drive to the computer.
I may now be able to risk getting myself another camera when the duct tape no longer holds the pieces of the battery door together on mine.
Customer Review: fisher price camera for your little shutterbug Summary: 5 Stars
My mom bought this toy for my three and a half year old son who loves to take pictures. We got it a few weeks before a trip to Florida. He practiced using it (with a little guidance) for a couple of weeks before we left. By the time we met my family in Florida he was a pro.
This is a great toy for teaching kids how to focus on an object. He also got a kick out of getting people posed. It really improved his technology skills (the camera holds up to 60 pictures which you can preview with easy to understand arrow buttons, it allows you to delete pictures, and it has a space for a memory card). He took pictures of half faces etc. at first; and now he knows to patiently wait for the right shot. He is great at centering objects and focusing on the important part of the picture.
We were impressed with the clarity of the pictures. I strongly recommend this gift to any child who is interested in photography. It is a great learning tool.
Customer Review: Poor quality Summary: 1 Stars
We ordered this camera for our 3-year old son for Christmas. I guess we should have made sure it worked before putting it under the tree, but we didn't. Our son had the biggest smile on his face when he ripped off the wrapping paper and saw the camera, but was so disappointed (as were we) when after struggling for 15 minutes just to get the batteries in, the camera wouldn't work. It would turn on, but wouldn't take any pictures. We tried regular batteries and alkaline batteries (the batteries are very hard to put in and take out), but nothing worked. After a whole day of trying to get the thing to work, we decided to just give him our old digital which still takes great pictures and has a rechargable battery that we can get out without a struggle. He loves it and takes surprisingly good pictures. I guess the moral of the story is "make sure all toys work before christmas morning," but based on my own experience and other's comments, I think this product could be improved.
