Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher Price Kid Tough Digital Camera - Pink

Customer Review: Great Kids Camera
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great camera for little kids! My daughter is 4. She often asks to use my adult cameras to take pictures or wants to hold my adult digital cameras to view pictures and carry it around showing the pictures to other people. I own some expensive cameras. I thought this would be a great gift for her to try taking pictures herself. I read other reviews about the poor picture quality and was a little skeptical but I also read reviews of how much fun the camera was and how easy it was for the child to learn to use. I got the camera for my daughter for Christmas. She loves it. She was able to take pictures with it right away. She took pictures of everyone at Christmas. She also took the camera to her pre-school and took pictures of all her class mates. I put in an old 16M SD memory card that I had, which gives nearly infinite picture capacity at the low resolution of this camera. The camera is very durable. The pink plastic handles are large rubber bumpers that protect the camera lens and display. The picture quality is lousy. This camera has 640X480 resolution. My first digital camera many years ago, when digital camera technology was fairly new, was a 640X480 resolution camera. I thought this would have comparable pictures to that. It is worse. It has picture quality about like a cell phone camera.

Customer Review: Made my daughter's birthday!
Summary: 5 Stars

My 4yr old daughter was set up for this toy. She was using everything she could get her hands on as a pretend camera including toy cell phones and anything that was remotely rectangular box shaped. When she opened this camera she was beyond excited. She used it at her own party and had the memory full within 15 minutes.

The Kid tough digital camera will store about 60 or so images at the default resolution. We haven't transferred any images to a pc yet, but on the screen they look poor. Maybe worse than the typical cell phone camera. That's ok though as that is not the main benefit of the camera anyway.

For the kids here's the deal. . .you have a viewfinder that you can keep both eyes open with, it makes a real shutter sound and makes an actual picture that you can review on the LCD screen. They don't care about the quality of the photos.

For the parent it is a great transition into early photography training, and using a PC. Digital is great. . .I wasn't allowed to use a camera until much later in life because of the costs of film.

It IS tough and seems to be able to hold up to my kid anyway. If your child has a bent toward cameras and taking photos this is a great toy.

Customer Review: Some things other entries did not mention
Summary: 4 Stars

When looking for a camera for my 3-yr-old, I could not find any entries that answered the questions that I had. We received this as a gift, so now I can answer my own questions. Your child can take pictures by looking through the eyepiece or on the screen (the screen is like an adults' screen where you see the image as you are taking the pic); however, the image is very grainy unless you are very close to the object. The same goes for playing the pictures back -- very grainy unless close-up. All of the pictures can be deleted very easily, so if your child is attached to any particular pics, download them as soon as possible. The camera did satisfy my son who just loves to take picture after picture, with no delay. He doesn't really care much about image quality. However, he still prefers to use my camera over his. This camera is very light weight and easy for little hands to hold. It also eliminates the finger in the way problem. I tried buying him an older digital camera, but it was way too heavy, so he won't use it. All in all, this is a fun toy, but I'm glad that I received it as a gift instead of shelling out my own money.

Customer Review: PIECE OF GARBAGE
Summary: 1 Stars

I have already filed a claim with Amazon for this piece of garbage. First off, it doesn't come with a memory card which, for almost $100.00, it should. It will not upload to a computer via usb cable, not sure why. What's most annoying is that my daughter loves this camera (she got for Christmas). She takes hundreds of pictures (now that we have the memory card), but YOU CAN'T UPLOAD THEM!! I now have to take her memory card out of her camera, put it in my digital camera to upload and then put her memory card back her in her camera. I don't usually write negative reviews for products unless they really stink. WELL, this really STINKS!! As I have stated, I have already filed a claim, but I am going so far as to contact Fisher Price directly as I am that annoyed and I will also discuss this merchant's restocking fee of %20. They sell inferior products but yet we have to pay a re-stocking fee? Not to mention my daughter's disappointment that the camera never worked right. Anyway, nuff said. Do not buy and especially do not buy from Mead Enterprises.]

Customer Review: Why does "For Kids" have to mean "Piece of Junk"?
Summary: 1 Stars

First I will admit that my 4yo daughter loves this camera. The smile on her face while she's taking pictures is worth the price to me. But seriously, this camera is a piece of junk. The picture quality is so bad. I just don't understand it. It's like Fisher Price figured "hey, it's for kids, so why bother making it decent". Shame on them and shame on all those who go along with it posting comments like "what do you want for a kids camera".

I don't have unrealistic expectations and am not expecting a kids camera to take the same quality photographs as my Nikon D200. I expect less when I pay less. But this thing isn't that cheap. For nearly 1/2 the price you can get a Kodak with 5mp and zoom that will take much, much,...much better pictures. So where's the extra cost coming from? Don't tell me the durable camera body. Really folks, this is a $10 digital camera in a $90 plastic and rubber case.
