Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Kid - Tough Digital Camera Blue [Amazon Frustration - Free Packaging]Customer Review: Great toy camera for toddlers Summary: 4 Stars
My 2 year old sun loves this camera so much, it is very hard to make him part with it. We gave it as a birthday gift (bought it from Warmart for $40 during Christmas 2008 sale) for him since he would not let me take his pictures and always rushing to grab my camera.
The moment he got it, he started walking around, clicking photos and deleting them :( (he loves the sound that plays on delete!!)
Pros
- Very well made, made to withstand all shock when kids drop it.
- Buttons are well placed for use by small children
- Supposedly waterproof, have not tested it yet ;-)
- Functional flash and LCD
- Photos can be downloaded to your PC
Cons
- Photos are very grainy when taken indoor, not worth printing. But don't worry, the child would not care about resolution, they just enjoy watching it in the camera and possibly on the PC
- Have to open up the battery compartment to plug-in the USB cable to download the photos and it needs a screwdriver to open :-(.
Customer Review: Surprisingly easy for my 2 year old, but eats batteries! Summary: 3 Stars
I must admit, I thought my 2 year old would have a hard time using this camera, but once we taught him how to power it on and showed him the shutter button on the front, he starting shooting away. The child-proof cover is a pain, but does keep little fingers out. Word to the wise, my wife and I were surprised at how fast the batteries seemed to die (4 AAA). We used Duracell and Kodak alkalines with no success (25 pictures maybe per reload?). We called Fisher Price and they are sending a call tag for it. If the new camera has better battery life that will be half the battle, but I only gave it 3 stars because the camera is too big for small hand (the grips should be contoured more, and the shutter is tough for tiny fingers. The picture quality is sufficient and the capacity is OK since the photos are taken at low resolution. My recommendation for next year's model is expandable memory, higher res, a strap of some kind, and make it more grippable instead of an "overbuilt" camera.
Customer Review: My two year old loves it Summary: 5 Stars
This turned out to be one of the best toy purchases I've made. My two year old son doesn't have a lot of interest in "toys"; instead he prefers the real (and often breakable) thing. Here we have the best of both worlds: a working digital camera that's stood up to the best my son can do. It's the most fun when there are two kids: they can run around taking pictures of each other going "Say cheese!" It's fun to look at the pictures and send them to the grandparents.
It almost goes without saying the picture quality is poor, however if you read the manual you can increase the quality pretty easily. Copying pictures off the camera is easy: just plug a USB cable into the camera and your computer (no extra software needed). Battery life has also proven to be good. I've had it about four months and only changed batteries once.
The only minor complaint I have: the button to take pictures is on the front which is a little awkward for small hands.
Customer Review: Great toy but poorly designed for small hands Summary: 4 Stars
My 2 1/2 year old son LOVES this camera! It's easy to use, he knows how to turn it on and off himself and can even view the photos he's taken. The only downside is that it was difficult for him to initially take a picture because of the position of the button on the front of the camera. His hands and fingers, even fully extended, just barely reach the button. In a few months that won't even be an issue. I also think that my son was more patient with this toy than he would have normally been because he is really into cameras and picture-taking overall. I could see how a child who may not be terribly interested in this type of toy could become easily, and justifiably, frustrated with the design. The Amazon frustration free packaging was a new thing for me and overall was great. I got a better price for the same product and less hassle on Christmas morning trying to tear through packaging designed to last through a natural disaster! I would definitely recommend this camera.
Customer Review: See the world through their eyes Summary: 5 Stars
My son received this on his 3rd birthday, from my sister.
My review: It's not the Canon Rebel XSi that I use, but it's more than enough to keep him from wanting to play with Daddy's camera. He loves it. The quality is no worse than my first camera phone, in fact it's probably better. These pictures aren't meant for archival purposes, they're just for his fun. He's not disappointed by the HSB and he probably won't ask for PhotoShop to correct them. He likes snapping a picture and seeing the results in the little window.
Just be careful if your kid gets one. Within a day of getting batteries in it he managed to get 3 pictures of me in my underwear. Since then, I've instructed him to make sure Mommy isn't naked in the room when he takes pictures and I've told him specifically that mommy might not like pictures of her taken while bathing. So if he takes them he's to immediately bring them to me so I can delete them. :)
