Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Kid - Tough Digital Camera Blue [Amazon Frustration - Free Packaging]Customer Review: Eats batteries, poor quality photos Summary: 1 Stars
We got this for our 4 year old who loves taking photos with our camera. We thought it would be better for him to have his own. This is a huge disappointment!
-He's taken 97 pictures, and we've gone through 2 sets of batteries!!! A kid takes lots of pictures. He doesn't just take one, turn it off, then see another "opportunity" and take another. He takes about 20 of the same thing. Well, plan on 4 batteries per 2 days of use!
-They don't offer a rechargeable battery pack.
-The photo quality is not good. I didn't expect it to match our own, but its worse than a phone's camera. The flash washes out most objects. He takes great photos with our real camera, he's had none with this camera.
-The picture taking button is small and in a weird spot for little hands to reach.
-The durability seems good and seems easy enough to hold, although a bit clunky for little hands.
-The frustration free packaging is AWESOME! I love it and can't wait for them to offer it on everything.
We're going to try to return this camera and try to get something else.
Customer Review: Tons of fun even if the pictures aren't great! Summary: 4 Stars
My son has gotten 3 full years of enjoyment out of this very durable camera (from 5 to 8 years old), and now his two-year-old little brother has just as much fun with it. The camera has survived drops, falls, throws, and every other sort of kid damage, and still works. The pictures are lousy - grainy, low resolution, and usually out of focus (it's a fixed-range lens, so if the subject is too close, as it often is with a kid behind the shutter, the picture comes out blurry). But that doesn't slow them down - the kids just love taking pictures, and I don't worry about them wasting film or breaking their camera. When we look at the pictures together, I give him suggestions on ways to improve his shots, and he likes to practice - and the pictures are getting better! Now he coaches his little brother for at least a half hour of quiet play at a time - ahh, sweet peace! Sometimes the pictures they take come out just adorable, and when I look at them all, it's like being given a gift to see the world through a child's eyes - even if it is low-res and fuzzy. This toy is definitely a winner in my book.
Customer Review: Battery hog Summary: 1 Stars
I am amazed that this camera is getting such great reviews. I have never left an on-line review before but feel I have to balance what I've read so far. It honestly makes me lose faith in on-line reviews and I will take them with a large grain of salt in the future. There's no question that this camera is durable, but that's about where the positives end for me.
The main problem is that the batteries last for about a day. If you buy this camera, buy stock in a battery company the same day. I'm not exaggerating when I say expect about a day out of the batteries. The other problem, as some people have said, is that the picture quality is HORRIBLE. I realize it's a toy, but come on! With technology these days they could have done much better. They are all very grainy and 9 out of 10 are out of focus.
I think you'd be better off buying a used "real" digital camera or even a cheap new one and let your kids play with that if they're 4 or 5 or older. When you factor in how much you'll spend for batteries with this you'll probably be ahead of the game.
Customer Review: Camera is a big disappointment on Christmas Day Summary: 1 Stars
I agree with other reviewers that the buttom to take snapshots is VERY difficult to push for a 5 year old. Also, this camera is not as well made as prior models. I gave this camera to my son yesterday for Christmas and today it completely stopped working. It wasn't dropped or damaged (the exterior is perfect) and the batteries are completely new (and working), however, the camera will NOT power on at all. Because I bought this at amazon rather than a local toy store, I cannot return it and am stuck with a broken, fairly pricey present that disspointed our whole family. Moreover, because the camera will not power back on, we can't even recover the Christmas photos that my son took yesterday to memorialize the holiday. Needless to say, I am disappointed with Fisher Price's product and the fact that this poorly made product can not be returned or replaced.
I did give this product 4 stars for "fun" value because my daughter had an earlier version of this camera in pink that has worked fine for 2 years and she has gotten a lot of enjoyment out of this product.
Customer Review: The Perfect Camera for a Young One Summary: 5 Stars
Let's be direct about this camera - it's not going to take great pictures. I honestly don't know why there's even a USB on this thing, not one picture on this that my son has taken would be worth printing. That said, taking pictures is somewhat secondary, as this is more of a toy and not a camera. Please pay attention to the age. This is meant for a three year old, it is not for would-be photographers. My son runs around the house taking pictures of lamps, floors, feet, half faces, toys, and whatever else he is pointing it at. It is very durable. He's already dropped it dozens of times and it keeps going fine. It's extremely easy for a three year-old to use. The buttons are large, and the delay on the power button is helpful. It also auto shuts off if not used for a bit. A word of caution though, rechargeable batteries are useless with this camera. It will chug through them in under five minutes. Overall, this is a fun camera that gives kids the thrill of using a real camera but with the safety of a child's toy. This thing can take some abuse!
