Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Imaginext DC Super Friends BatcaveCustomer Review: Absolutely wonderful Summary: 5 Stars
As an old-school Bat-Fan I was excited to buy this playset for my two young sons and upon opening it, I immediately got a classic Mego comic action heroes type vibe. Comes with black and grey batman, robin, bat-computer, bat-cycle, Robin's staff/hook weapon, 2 batarangs. The Batcave has a load of gimmicks including:
Elevator that stops on three floors (including coming out through the roof as a hatch flips up), an opening iris window, a slide out rock panel that reveals a platform with missile launcher, opening front gateway, opening side hatch and ramp for batcycle, clear plastic prison cell a'la Hannibal Lechter's cell, a winch and hook, side stairs and side entrance on 2nd floor, the large bat-symbol in the center is actually a smoked plastic window, a couple other clear windows, ladders, staircases, all kinds of molded details like control panels, a bat-bed and stuff. The only downside I could possibly point to would be that Robin doesn't have a cape, but all the Batmen have cloth capes.
I also bought the batmobile ($10), the cockpit opens, the turbo flame spins as it rolls and at the press of a button the grille flips out to become a capture claw. Comes with a batman. The Joker and Joker cycle, press the button and a hammer bashes the ground. The Penguin, with a spinning umbrella-copter backpack and 2 penguin hench-beasts (one of which has a roller ball in its stomach so it can slide around on its belly like a penguin sliding on ice. Also bought the blue and grey batman who comes with a bat glider and a bat-grapple that has a winch that automatically reels the grapple back in so that if you have it in batman's hands it will cause him to climb up the side of whatever the grapple is hooked onto. All those figures are about $5.99 each.
My kids and I played with it for hours upon opening. Weeks later they are both still playing with it. Easily one of the best toy purchases of the year. I may have to buy one for myself.
Customer Review: Easily Recommended Summary: 5 Stars
This is a fantastic toy. Our son (3) loves it and had hours of "self play" in the Batcave - now that is priceless.
The cave has an elevator, a cannon, a hook, three "drawbridge" type doors - one which causes a platform inside the Batcave to spin (for the motorcycle or Batmobile) - , two levels plus the roof, a place for the Batcmputer, a helipad, several Batrangs, a ladder, staircase, an antenna, an internal room on the bottom floor and cool molded in Batdetails.
The Batcave can be used as a carrying case even though it's not very efficient in holding in the toys unless you master the art of placing them in a way that they wouldn't fall out - meaning your kid can't just throw in the accessories, close the compartments and walk away. The Batcave can be enjoyed either from the back (inside the Batcave) or from the front (approaching / attacking the Batcave) - the compartments fit other Imaginext accessories and characters.
The Batcave is made of hard injected molding, it is sturdy, durable and cleans easily after several months of hard playing. Our set came with Batman, Robin and a motorcycle (we bought in on sale at a brick and mortar store).
Easily recommended and a great purchase. We have been so impressed with the Imaginext quality of toys that we have augmented the cave with other Batprops (Batmobile, Batwing and an assortment of villains) and we have yet to be disappointed (hear that Mattel with your low quality and overpriced Barbie accessories).
Customer Review: I have nothing new to say....but... Summary: 5 Stars
I have to put in my two cents anyway because we LOVE this toy so much! We bought this for our 4 year old for his birthday. He is EXACTLY the right age for this and it was a massive hit. He played with it for HOURS! His 2 year old brother also played along, and they have never played together so well. Our 4 year ols has loved super heroes for a couple years now and there is a definite lack of toys out there for the super hero loving pre-schooler. So, we were very excited about this and it does not dissappoint. It is very well-made and has lots of little features and functions for the kids to explore, that they really PLAY with it. It also comes with the Batman, Robin and motorcycle, which means it can be played with right out of the box, which is so rare these days (although, we do recommed buying at least one villian and Joker is our favorite.) Because we love it so much, we will be buying ALL the matching sets of Batmobile, Batcopter, Batwing and other villians. It also folds up to a fairly convenient size, and stays together for carrying when folded, both of which are priceless features from a parental perspective. If you love Imaginext AND Batman, this was made with your name on it, it will not dissappoint you and lives up to whatever expectations you have from both those names.
Customer Review: Son loves playing with this Toy- does have a few quirks Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this batman cave for my son for his 3rd birthday, as he LOVES anything batman. I read the good reviews and decided to give it a try, even though I felt the price was kind of high. I will say that my son has really enjoyed this toy & it has seen a lot of use off and on. He plays with it several times a week. He has lost the Robin that came with it, but still has the batman and motorcycle, and computer. I am taking a star off, because as much as my son likes this toy, it does have a few quirks. The moat door that can be rolled up or down does not stay in the up position- it falls down, so stays partially down at all times. Also, the elevator that opens frequently gets stuck. The latch at the top that keeps it closed for carrying purposes frequently comes undone, so it doesn't really keep it closed well. I will say one thing I love about it from a mother's point of view is the carrying handle. That makes it so convenient to take with us on trips or vacations, so my son will have something to keep him occupied at the hotel or when visiting relatives that don't have toys. Overall, I will say that this was worth the price I paid, as my son enjoys it and it's still a frequently used toy one year later.
Customer Review: A Must Have!!! Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased this for our 3 year old son who loves Batman. I was on the fence about it. I didn't want such a "large" toy cluttering up the house if it wasn't going to be played with. After reading all the reviews, we decided to take the plunge, and boy are we glad that we did! Our son absolutely LOVES it! He plays with it for hours and carries it everywhere. It folds up nicely and is easily transportable.
The batcave is not as large as I thought it was going to be, so it really doesn't take up too much space, especially when you fold it up, which is easy to do. Each section is hinged, so you close it like you would a door and there's a hook latch on the top which keeps it closed and everything tucked inside.
What do you do with the figurines? No problem. There's a chamber that the kids use when in play, then they can store all the figurines in there when it's time to put it away or to transport it. We purchased the 6 extra figurines on top of the 2 that is given. They all fit nicely in the chamber.
If you are on the fence like I was, go ahead and take the plunge. It's a great toy and I'm so glad we got it for him. Think of it as a dollhouse for a boy. :)
