Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price I Can Play Piano System

Customer Review: Same power problem here, but if the replacement works I still think it'll be good ...
Summary: 3 Stars

Like other reviewers, ours stopped working after the 1st day and no, it wasn't the cartridge not being seated properly. (Didn't try putting the AC adapter in upside down, maybe that would have helped? Doubt it but you never know.) FP is replacing it, and after reading reviews I understand why the rep didn't even sound surprised. I however am surprised because normally their products are really good.

Granted we haven't spent much time with it, but if we can get one that keeps working I still think it'll be good. Like others said, it's a TOY and an INTRODUCTION to a real instrument and reading music. When you take instrumental lessons as a little kid you usually use an inexpensive starter model and you learn really easy stuff. If you stick it out past 5th grade things get better. Is this really any different? I don't think so and I also don't think that's bad. I think it would be naive (perhaps wishful thinking??) to expect that $60 would replace a real piano and years of weekly lessons.

Customer Review: Defective and Dangerous... The system has a short circuit
Summary: 1 Stars

Do not buy this toy. I purchased the toy for my daughter for Xmas and I had to return it twice due to a faulty power button. I had to repeatedly press the power button for the toy to turn on. The button's light would flicker but not turn on. Finally the toy turned on. My daughter played the piano for ten minutes and I tried to turn it off and it would not turn off. Even worse the toy was HOT to my touch. Finally, the toy turned off. I exchanged the toy for the same model. And the new "I Can Play Piano" had the same power and overheating problems. Fisher Price has had numerous problems with infant swings that overheated and motors burned out (I had one for my newborn son 2 years ago). Even causing batteries to explode. They have forsaken CHILDREN and INFANT SAFETY for lower production costs. Fisher Price admitted that they have outsourced engineering, quality control and manufacturing to China. They are passing on huge risks to children's safety.

Customer Review: DO NOT BUY, DOES NOT LAST, POWER ELECTRIC PROBLEM!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

We got two full days out of this toy and then the MAJOR power problem started. It's now too late to return it, and it's become a fire hazard. They need to just do a recall on it! It won't turn on, it takes about 10 tries and if you are lucky enough to finally get something to work, it stops within about 2 notes and turns off. We are one of the lucky ones who hasn't yet had it not turn off and over heat. It is sad that Amazon and Fisher Price have joined together to keep selling a product that is dangerous electrically.

Now for the game side. Its WAY too fast even for me a 33 year old mother to do any of the games. These are the ones marked for 5 year olds. Our son got nothing out of this, and we are very disappointed that we spent the money for a useless hunk of plastic junk, and a sour taste in our mouth for both Amazon and Fisher Price. DON't waste your time or money and find a product that is not going to burn your home down!!!!!

Customer Review: Great idea but poor quality and somewhat difficult to use
Summary: 3 Stars

I got this piano for my 4 year old daughter for Christmas. My first one did what happened to many other people. It stopped turning on after just two uses. My daughter really wanted a new one and so far this one is working. I think it's a great idea, but the music has been difficult for her to keep up with. I'm hoping she'll grow into it. She likes the games though. And she plays with it more just as a keyboard. It irritates me a little that you can't hear the keys play when the game cartridge is being used. You only hear the TV and I have to turn the TV way up to hear anything at all. Part of the way to learn is to hear what the key should sound like. I hate to give it such a low rate because I think it could be such a great thing, but it's probably better for older kids, like seven or eight years old and and older. And the quality isn't so hot for the price. I guess that is to be expected on the first run of anything.

Customer Review: 2nd Dead Piano
Summary: 1 Stars

I have tried all the suggestions from other reviewers--I've held the power button down for up to a minute, and it never comes on. I've made sure the ON/OFF switch on the back is in the ON position. The cartridge is in securely. The power cord is in. I have worked in IT for over 6 years, repairing computers and I cannot get this thing to work. We purchased the first one from Walmart, it worked about a week and died. I returned it and couldn't find another one anywhere locally so I ordered from Amazon. It arrived quickly, everything was OK and now, 3 months later it has died again. Unfortunately I am past the 30 day period for returns on Amazon and I am getting nowhere with Fisher Price, so for now I have a dead piano and I'm out $60. The concept is super cool, my daughter loved it, but it definitely has some sort of power problem.
