Customer Review: Works well after modification

While I agree whole-heartedly with everyone else's assessment, I was able to improve the functionality of this toy with a fairly simple modification. The "nails" would never load properly because of the little plastic flap just inside the barrel of the nailer. I simply removed all of the screws and pulled the nailer apart into 3 pieces (2 halves of nailer, and the trigger). It was not difficult at all and both halves are self contained with the batteries and electronics on one half. Remove the screw holding the flap cover to nailer, then remove the flap and spring underneath the flap cover. Replace the flap cover and then put the 2 halves of the nailer back together (be sure to reinsert the trigger correctly), then reinsert and tighten all the screws. It took me 5 minutes.
I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why this flap was designed so poorly. I suppose it will prevent kids from inserting the "nails" back into the nailer through the hole and jamming it up, but this flap is the reason why the "nail" will fail to load 90% of the time. After this modification, the nails load 100% of the time, and with sufficient pressure on the trigger, will go all the way into the holes on the airplane parts. My 3 year old can't quite squeeze hard enough, so he uses his "Pat the Hammer" to finish the job. And he loves the toy overall.[...]
