Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Fix-it Right Manny?s Repair Shop

Customer Review: Pretty Disappointed
Summary: 2 Stars

I looked into purchasing this item when my son was 2 1/2 as a Christmas present, but decided he wasn't ready for it and the $[...] price tag turned me off. About two months later, I found it on clearance at Target for $[...] and bought it to put away for his birthday. I got it out tonight and assembled it and I'm not overly impressed. Sure, it is fine for $[...], but if I had paid $[...], I would be packing it up and returning it. The following are my issues:

1. Overall, it is flimsy. One good fall into this and I dare say something will be forever broken.
2. It comes with very few building pieces.
3. The storage for the building pieces is a joke. There are slots where the "boards" are supposed to go, but they don't fit and apparently you're just supposed to throw all the screws and brackets onto the table because there is nowhere to put them. The first thing I had to do was go find a bin to put everything in.
4. There are supposed to be directions to make 20 projects, but only three are on the cards that work with the workbench. The others are printed on a piece of paper that will be torn and lost in no time.
5. I looked and looked for the rest of the tools before realizing that all it comes with are a hammer and screwdriver. Really? For a $[...] MSRP they couldn't throw in a few more plastic tools? Instead, I'm supposed to buy those separately.

So, overall, if you can find it for $[...], it is a decent buy but don't expect something worthy of the $[...] price tag.

Customer Review: Our kids like it but neither has used it as intended.
Summary: 4 Stars

We bought this toy for Christmas for our 18 month old son. It does a lot more than our daughter's Barbie vet center for the same price but neither has given us our money's worth.

This workshop does come with a lot of "projects" to build but most are too fragile to actually play with such as the racer whose wheels unscrew off with mild play.

The blueprint instructions that get Manny to "talk you through" the project are pretty generic. He tells you to "gather the pieces you'll need", "let's get started","check the blueprint and continue", etc. The only thing that changes is the first sentence where he tells you what you'll be building, after that, all the statements are identical and don't actually provide any instruction.

The pieces it comes with don't interlock in too many different ways like Lego blocks would. For the price, we definitely expected it to do a lot more. Our son does enjoy it because Manny talks to him, he get to hammer "nails" into the work table and it came with a smaller Pat and Felipe which fit better in his hands. Our daughter likes the pieces and uses the drill press and table saw to "drill" and "cut" through the pieces.

So overall, he loves it, which is what matters, but we were disappointed. It IS sturdy, his 3 year old sister sat on it once and it held her fine.

Would recommend it if it's on sale somewhere but not for the [...] we paid.

Customer Review: My daughter & son love it! Just one recommendation for improvement...
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this for my almost 5 daughter for Christmas. She loves it, and so does my almost 2 yr old son. I love how it comes with illustrated instruction sheets, and when you plug them in, Manny tells you what to do. Very cute idea! My daughter still needs a little help to get the projects put together, but they are fairly easy to do. The two reasons I give it 4 stars instead of 5 are this:
1. There are soooo many little pieces to these projects, and no practical storage to keep it all in. I'd like to see plastic bins underneath to hold the screws, nails, and "wood" pieces in. For right now, we keep it all in a Ziploc freezer storage bag.
2. This product comes with Pat (the hammer) and Turner (I think- the screw driver). My daughter was a little upset that it didn't come with all of the tools... I think for the price all the tools could be included.
All in all, it's a great toy, and both of my kids love it.

Customer Review: Not worth full price
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this toy for half the list price (hope the list price doesn't fluctuate...) and it is worth that, but not worth full price. My daughter (3 yrs) loved the set immediately--as does our almost-two-year-old son. She needed lots of help following directions, but it was a fun thing to work on together. We've now had it 7 months and she hasn't played with the workbench part in a couple months. The "wood" pieces, screws, and nails is all she really enjoys. The work area is just too small to really use much--they could've made the counter area deeper. I, along with other reviewers, was disappointed they didn't design a better place to store the building pieces. For the price, that would have been a nice thing to consider. I was also disappointed that only two tools (Pat the hammer, Felipe the screwdriver). But again, if you don't pay full price, it's a good toy.

Customer Review: Great toy - need to be able to purchase extra parts.
Summary: 4 Stars

My 4 year old son has had this workbench for a year .. it was a Christmas gift last Christmas. He still plays with it almost every day and loves it. My 2 year old daughter participates in the play as well. Given how much they play with it and the fact that it has mostly lasted a year, I think it is worth paying full price if you have to. With that being said, I only gave 4 stars because the screws and nails are small and eaisly lost or misplaced. If you could purchase extra building parts or the set came with more building parts I feel it would be worth 5 stars. At this point we are missing so many parts he can only really build one or two items.
