Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Elmo LiveCustomer Review: Short Life Toy, Not Durable Summary: 2 Stars
Not a recommended buy. My 16 month old son received this toy as a gift for Christmas. He loved to watch it tell stories, dance, talk and wave his arms. His cousins loved it too (ages 2 and 4). However, Elmo did not even last a month. He started clicking and slowing down. At first, like the other reviews, we thought it needed new batteries. We soon learned, not the case. Elmo is now almost dead. Except for one function with the nose, does nothing else - which frustrates my son as he totally caught on to the pushing the buttons to make Elmo move and talk.
I do not recommend this toy in the end, its durability is horrible. If you are going to buy it and leave it on a shelf with only adults operating it - maybe you will be okay. For a kid, it costs too much to break so quickly. Really disappoints the kids in the end as it is a toy they really like that clearly does not work. Spend your money on something else.
Customer Review: Captivating Summary: 5 Stars
I bought Elmo Live for a friends 3 year old nephew, who loves Elmo!
I googled him, I went to the stores and looked at him and felt him
and got a preview, I read other reviews, and finally decided to make the
purchase. The reaction from Zach, (my friends nephew) was absolutely priceless!!! He watched in such rapture and fasination that Elmo was
actually talking and telling jokes and screaming he couldn't contain
himself any longer and started hugging and kissing him. When Elmo threw
Zach a kiss Zach threw a kiss right back..4 adults were mesmerized and
so entertained just watching all the things Elmo Live could do and the
reaction it brought from all of us watching a 3 year old in pure delight
brought tears to our eyes... There are toys, and then there is Elmo Live!!
If a child is old enough to play with toys and listen and learn, then
Elmo Live is a great asset.
Customer Review: Fun for Muppet Fans and Their Kids! Summary: 5 Stars
Pros:
As someone who has grown up with the Muppets, this is quite ground breaking in terms of realism. Elmo's mouth movements are like that of the actual puppet on Sesame Street. When on the floor he actually is at eye level with the toddler. He is great for getting your child active as he encourages them to get up and dance. If not played with he automatically shuts off. The best part about this Elmo is he is not creepy like some of the Elmo toys that have come out in the past.
Cons:
He is not soft by any means, the only thing between your child and the frame of the toy is a thin layer of red fur. There aren't many stories, and he is very repetitive. You have to have him on a good solid surface or he falls over, if he is mid-story during the fall he does not continue from where he left off before he fell.
Overall: A great toy for Muppet fans who have little Muppet fans of their own.
Customer Review: Endless fun for 1 year olds! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the toy that is first out of the toybox and dragged all over the house. Both of our 1 year old grandsons delight in watching Elmo. They especially delight in knocking him over and having Elmo say "Oh-oh, Elmo fell down. Can you help Elmo up please? Then Elmo says "Thank you. You are Elmo's best friend." That is as good as any story. I have watched them put Elmo up on the coffee table any number of times. Then Elmo starts to tell a story. Well before it is over, one of them will knock it over. Then the boys laugh so hard they nearly fall over. Elmo asks them to pick him up, they do, Elmo says Thank you, and it starts all over again.
They also like the one when Elmo asks them to squeeze his nose.
Endless fun for the 1 year old set. The others are mostly entertained by watching what the boys do with it. This toy has lasted a lot longer than I thought it would.
Customer Review: Good toy, annoying balance Summary: 4 Stars
My son just turned a year (I know it's not for babies) and he loves it. We played it for him in Toys R Us and he was giggling so much. So I bought it for his birthday. It's fun for my son. When he's sad, Elmo talking to him cheers him up. There are so many things Elmo says and does. The only cons I can find, are that a) He's like a robot, complete with the robot movement sounds. That doesn't bother either of us, but it would bother some people. b) he falls down even with his stool when telling stories. c) I only know of two buttons...one that tells stories, and the one on his tummy gets him to do everything else...so if there's a particular thing my son likes to see (like dancing for example) I have to go through many other acts first.
Overall, I feel it's worth the cost if you're comfortable enough to buy something that has minor flaws, but is certainly entertaining to young Elmo fans.
