Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Elmo Live

Customer Review: Elmo Live
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this toy for my grandaughter so before I gave it to her I wanted to take it out and play with it myself - just to make sure it worked, of course (heh, heh). I was blown away with the reality of it. I set it on the floor and let it began to talk and move. When it fell over, trying to lower itself down onto its stool, I was eyes and mouth wide open when Elmo said, 'Could you help me up?' Elmo talked, sang, told stories, sneezed and EVERYTHING that I couldn't believe it could do. It was like it could think. I didn't know there was an on/off switch so when it continued to talk and clown around like a real child, I was concerned about it starting a story in the middle of the night while I was trying to sleep. I set him in the corner (no motion around) and in a few minutes Elmo said, 'I think I'll take a nap now.' He made no more noise until prompted. I found out later it DOES have an on/off switch. Good news for my son and daughter-in law. Love it. The only downside is this: If you are expecting a stuffed-animal-soft/cuddly toy, you won't get it. Elmo's body is rather hard to the touch. Aside from that, I totally recommend this toy. It is amazing.

Customer Review: A little creepy and very off balance
Summary: 3 Stars

Elmo makes very loud mechanical sounds when it moves and talks - you can hear the mechanisms moving inside.

There are 3 buttons to push to help Elmo interact with your child - the one on the left foot is the easiest to find, the one on the chest and back are a little more challenging for my 2 year old to push.

When you push Elmo's foot - he tells you a story. He also lifts his one leg which throws him off balance and he falls down every time even with the little stool provided. This gets rather annoying and after picking Elmo up 2 or more times, my son is done with the toy. The stool is about 1 inch too short to actually support elmo. My suggestion is to lean Elmo up against something taller to support him on that side.

Elmo dancing, sneezing, kissing your child and asking for hugs gets a little creepy after only a few minutes and my toddler is bored to death with it. He is more interested in things that go and things that keep him involved.

This toy is a good idea in theory, but in practice, it doesn't engage children as much as advertised or provide them with any educational value.

Customer Review: Piece of Junk
Summary: 1 Stars

We purchased the Elmo Live for my 2 year old daughter. The mouth broke within a month of only occasional use. Unfortunately, I have only since seen all the similar complaints on reviews on Amazon. The mouth now makes loud clicking sounds and is horrible to listen to.

Add to this a horrible design flaw. When Elmo tells a story, he is supposed to sit down on a small stool and cross his legs. Well, the reality is that Elmo almost always falls down and says "Can you help Elmo up please?" To me this shows that the designers knew of this problem but instead of correcting it they merely had Elmo say something cute. It is cute at first but is not so cute when he falls over dozens of times without ever finishing his story. The stool has such a small profile and needs to be placed behind Elmo off to his right side. If the stool is put directly behind Elmo like a normal person would sit, he still falls over.

So, if you want a poorly designed toy that will break within a month, then this toy is for you.

Fisher-Price should do the descent thing and recall them because they do NOT work.

Customer Review: Broke after 1 hour...
Summary: 2 Stars

After seeing my daughter laugh and love this toy in the store, her grandma went straight out to get it. We let her open it on xmas eve, and after about a hour of playing with it, it no longer opened it's mouth when it would just speak normally. It still opens it when it talks 'big' but now we have to take it back and get a new one. Bought it at walmart, and am very glad we didn't get it online. The chair is useless, and you can't even open it up without having to cut some stitching. I'm mechanically inclined so I kind of want to fix the clicking issue myself but after reading the reviews, figure we'll just take it back and find another elmo for her to play with. The stories are nice, but my 2 year old doesn't understand the jokes yet, so that part is useless. She carries him around by his head, and God forbid she hit a button while she's carrying him, then the gears will go out of whack again. She's dropped it at least twice with a load "thwack". Not having any padding to protect the child OR the toy....not a good idea Fisher Price....

Customer Review: not for everyone!
Summary: 2 Stars

I looked all over this Christmas to get my 3 year old the "Dancing Elmo toy. Cnn and everyone said it was great, and my sister got one for her daughter who really loved it.

When I went to the stores in our area, they were totally sold out. Amazon listed some in stock, by this was not true. I ordered, and 2 weeks later got email saying my order was delayed due to stock shortages.

So I called customer service who was VERY UNHELPFUL and finally had to talk to three people to find out that my order would not come in time for christmas. My 3 year old got a box with a IOU One Dancing Elmo card in it, and this was not a happy moment. One Jan 13th, finally the Elmo came. I opened it up and gave it to my son. I turned it on so it would dance for him, but he looked at it once and began to cry.

He cried all though elmos dancing and wouldnt come near it again. He also got sick all over it from fear and so I cannot return it. some kids may like it, but its not for everyone!
