Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Elmo Live

Customer Review: Elmo IS Alive And Hilarious!
Summary: 5 Stars

Sesame Street's favorite red, furry pre-schooler is now more alive than ever. I have never seen such an animated and sophisticated toy made for kids 18 months and older - or any kid who loves Sesame Street. Elmo is about 18 inches tall and full of more animation and vocals than any mechanical doll/toy I have seen. Set Elmo on a flat surface with his little blue chair and your kids will be amused for hours with a seemingly endless array of wild movements and funny comments. Elmo has four pressure points which activate dozens of narratives, including comments on how much Elmo loves you, asks for a kiss or scratch his back. He actually responds to each of these remarks when your child touches him. If Elmo falls over, he asks for your help in setting him up! Elmo has a "freeze dance" which is hilarious as well as his version of, "Simon Says" called, "Elmo Says". Elmo's phrases change constantly. Elmo also has two silly songs, many silly sneezes, endless hug requests, two engaging stories and endless random jokes. Your child will never tire of Elmo and his gestures, dances, mouth actions, arm swinging and more are amazing to watch. Of course, any child will walk away from a toy for a minute or more, so Elmo will yawn and go to sleep to preserve battery life. Once he is picked up or pressed on his foot, belly, back or nose, he springs back to life. Your child will love you for getting them Elmo and Elmo will love them.

Customer Review: My kid is OBSESSED with Elmo but NOT Elmo live
Summary: 2 Stars

My 18 month old could not be more obsessed with Elmo. Elmo was her fourth word. We have a goldfish named Dorothy, her 8th word. She can sing the entire Elmo song. We go to Sea World all the time to see Elmo. We have pics with Elmo, Elmo toothbrushes, Elmo Ride on Plane, Guess what Elmo, and now Elmo live.

Out of everything Elmo, this is her least favorite. I think it is because the operating noise is so loud that she doesn't love it as much. The stories are long for her age, and it's a bit too advanced for her age group. I think 2 1/2- 3 yr olds will love it more b/c they will understand how to interact with it.

I really thought she would go crazy with an Elmo that moves its arms but nope, she is more obsessed with the seat he comes with. It is a cool toy for an older kid. My child, an Elmo authority, doesn't touch this toy. Personally, it doesn't shut up. It drives us a bit crazy when we do start it. Guess what Elmo is a much better toy, a lot cheaper, and she carries him all around.

Elmo live just isn't worth it for her age. When she gets older and might like this toy, I'm sure Fisher Price will have fixed the amazingly loud operating noise. You can't tell in the store but when you get it home, it is suprisingly loud (I can't believe Fisher Price released it this loud.)
I would not buy this toy for any age. I would wait until they improve it.

Customer Review: Thoughtfully & intelligently designed. Still much room for improvement.
Summary: 5 Stars

After one week - - here is my review

Pros:
1. Well designed toy, but leaves more to be desired.
2. He sings, tells jokes, dances, has animated & fluid, aka lifelike, mannerisms.
3. Recognizes when he has fallen over and politely asks for help. The sneeze sequence is hilarious.
4. He does a lot of things that really personify the toy, i.e. thanks you if you help him up, goes bonkers if you squeeze his nose, laughs, yawns, asks you to dance with him, etc. To a 2-4 year-old, Elmo does indeed comes alive.

Cons:
1. The servo noise can be distracting, most of the time.
2. The red terry cloth / skin is way too thin and fragile.
3. It would be nice if Elmo is cushier and has another programing sequence when lying down so that children can go take him to bed with them.
4. It would be nice if Elmo is expandable, in the sense that you can add more programs via Bluetooth / USB / cartridge expansion. Otherwise, Elmo will become boring real fast.

Elmo Live is an innovative and engaging toy for children between 2-4 years of age. He is worth the MSRP, compared to other toys, but NOT MORE. If it wasn't for the economy, Elmo Live would likely be all over the news and the hottest toy of the holiday season.

Customer Review: We don't buy fad toys...SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW!
Summary: 1 Stars

I do not buy the fad toys and don't buy into hype of products (infomercials etc). This was gifted to my 26 month old daughter and I admit I thought it might be a cute fun toy. I left her alone with it. It's a TOY right? I could hear him talking and her talking to him and then she was SCREAMING. I ran in to see what in the world could have happened. It pinched her!!!!!!! She had been HUGGING this TOY and the neck mechanisms (many small parts) can be felt inside the neck with only this red fabric covering it (no padding there). When hugging him her skin got pinched in his moving parts.

I took the blame thinking surely it must be recommended for an older age (most toys are 3+) and then I looked up his product details. It's for 18 months and up.

SO if you do want this doll then PLEASE only buy it for a child who will be amused by watching him as they do on Sesame Street because he's not for touching.

I will be calling the manufacturer in the morning about return. It's their poor design and not the store's fault who sold it. As one reviewer here said: SHAME on Fisher-Price for releasing a toy 'in time for Christmas' which clearly needs additional work.

Customer Review: Not for young children
Summary: 2 Stars

I did not buy this product from Amazon, it was a gift given to my daughter for Christmas. I have had to return it twice now. I do have to say that my 20 month old daughter is completely mesmerized by the Elmo doll, she just doesn't know what to do with him. She wants to press buttons and carry him around but this type of toy is really for just watching. The product says it is for 18 months +. Her little friend was over who is a little over 3 now and she did not play with the toy properly either. They end up pressing the buttons too many times so it just basically repeats itself and it's constantly falling over (which is very annoying for the parents because it's very loud with no volume button and I'm not one to usually complain about annoying children's toys). The first toy broke within about a week and the second one was defective right out of the box. It is not durable enough to withstand toddler use. I was very disappointed in this product. If you can get one that actually works, I think it would be an appropriate toy for maybe a four or five year old but I would absolutely not recommend this for younger children, especially with a price tag like that!
