Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Dora the Explorer My Talking BackpackCustomer Review: Not a very functional back pack Summary: 1 Stars
The only way to carry this backpack is by a small handle on top. When you pick it up by the handle, due to a very poor latch, the top just flips open, which is frustrating and impractical. I used packing tape and attached a thick ribbon so my 2 yr. old could atleast carry it over her shoulder. She plays with the camera some, the telescope less, and the other two pieces not at all, and unless you get it just right, it's difficult to get them all in there (especially the camera - the opening isn't very big). Though it's "bilingual", I'd definitely reccomend a different backpack for play and carrying stuff around.
Customer Review: This toy will ruin your life Summary: 1 Stars
The opening at the top is so frustratingly small. It's impossible for a child, and most adults for that matter, to get the camera out of the backpack. If you somehow manage to get it out, it's impossible to get it back in.
This toy is really more of a 3D puzzle. Which one orientation of the camera will let it pass through the opening at the top? How small can you contort your hand to coax the camera out?
While you're trying to get the camera out, your ears will bleed from the volume of the noise coming out of this thing.
Customer Review: Items are difficult to get out of backpack Summary: 3 Stars
I'm finding that the opening to the backpack is small in relation to the camera and the binoculars, and the kids are having a hard time getting their hand inside the backpack and pulling out what they want. They can reach in and grab the item; but, when they go to withdraw their hand with the item in it, their hand hits the narrow opening and this knocks the item out of their hand. So, they tend to tip the backpack upside down and shake it to get the items out. Since you really don't want to make the items smaller, I think the opening needs to be bigger.
Customer Review: Finger Smashing Hazard Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this toy for my two year old. She loves the accessories, however; the opening of the backpack is so small that it is almost impossible to get the camcorder out without smashing her little fingers. She has also smashed her fingers on the hinges as well. She becomes very frustrated with this toy. It does not have straps either so she was disappointed with that. The accessories are cute but there is a serious design flaw with the opening being so narrow. It looks like they have replaced the camera with a smaller one. Maybe that would help.
Customer Review: Where is the education bit? Summary: 1 Stars
Sorry to see that they have sold out just like anyone else. It is shocking that for the 50 cents they could have spent to actually have the magnifying glass or binoculars have a little bit of power they put in crappy clear plastic lenses that does not make either functional. Proving that for a buck they are willing to sell out on one of the things that made the Dora show popular and on the acceptable TV list in our house. As one reviewer noted - this is about five minutes of fun before it goes on the bottom of the toy pile. Save your money.
