Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher Price Diego's Talking Rescue Center

Customer Review: Good toy, kind of pricey for what you get.
Summary: 4 Stars

First off, I think this toy is way overpriced for what you get. Sure it's big, but it's not that much stuff when you get down to it.

My 4-year old son got this for his birthday, and hasn't stopped playing with it yet. We've set it up on our dining room table, and he loves hopping right up on the table and playing with all the characters. He can entertain himself for 30minutes to an hour with it in one sitting, at least.

I do have some quality issues with the product. There is a folding floor that extends from the main rescue center part that is very easy to break off if you apply too much pressure. I can already see some "white plastic" where the plastic is stretching out when this happens. It doesn't take much more than a rough kid to break it off.

The zip line is also kind of awkward, in that at the end, you have this small orange shelter, and Diego falls so quickly and hits the shelter it doesn't seem very "fun" to me, but kids like it.

Bottom line, it's overpriced, but if you can get it cheap, I'd pick it up. As with most large toys like this, you really need a good place to put it as it takes up a lot of room.

Customer Review: Disappointing Quality for the Price
Summary: 3 Stars

My husband and I bought this for our son's 3rd birthday. He went nuts when it saw it at the store before his birthday, so we decided to get it for him. He loves imaginative play and Diego and we knew this would be perfect for him.
After putting the toy together, which was very easy, I noticed that it fell apart so quickly. The legs that hold the treehouse part of the the toy up constantly fall off if you try to pick it up and move it. When you push down the nest on the rooftop, which activates the helicopter to fly around, the whole rescue center wobbles around with it. The swinging door doesn't close all the way and the "zip line" that attaches to the little hut comes off when you try to slide Diego down it. The elevator lift doesn't slide up and down the post easily at all. You have to tilt it up and then slide it. The rescue pack that helps Diego slide down the zip line is very difficult to get on Diego.
As much as my son loves this toy, it is very frustating for him when it doesn't work like it should. I get lots of "Mommy can you fix this!?!?" when he plays with it.
If it wasn't $40 and maybe like $20, I wouldn't have been as disappointed.

Customer Review: Best toy ever!
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought Diego's Animal Rescue Center for our 2 year old daughter for her birthday, because she has really started getting into the Diego show and saw the toy on commercials. I was skeptical after reading some reviews about how the toy fell apart all the time. In fact, we almost didn't get it based on those reviews but decided to give it a chance at the last minute. My girls, ages 2 and 4 yrs. LOVE, LOVE this toy!! It has kept them entertained for hours and they really use their imaginations in acting out scenarios for Diego and the many animals! I would NOT agree with other reviewers about the quality. We haven't had ANY problems with this toy falling apart, everything works perfectly, even the zip line! It might break apart if your kids are smashing it around, but with average play, it is fine. Grandma and Grandpa bought the extra playsets, which gives Diego even more animals to rescue. My ONLY complaint is that I cannot find a set that has Alicia, Diego's sister, because my 2 year old LOVES her! All in all, a wonderful purchase! My kids have learned alot about animals and have been enthralled in play so mommy can get a little work done! :)

Customer Review: Very disappointing
Summary: 1 Stars

My 2.5 year old loves Diego, so we thought that this would be the perfect gift for him. For the price, it is quite disappointing. The major problem is that the posts that connect the house to the base do not snap into the base in any way, so if you move the house at all, the base falls off and you have to reassemble the entire thing. Also, the folding ledge in the treehouse falls off with even the most minimal pressure (e.g. just kids playing with the animals on it). Worse, the zip line rests in a nook at the top of the house, but does not snap in, so you have to hold the line in manually so that it doesn't pop out or up when the zip line is being used. Finally, the "belt" that is to be snapped onto the characters so that they can ride the zip line is tough to get on and off for even my five year old. All in all, very poorly executed idea and a total waste of money. The improvements required seem basic and so obvious and I can't believe that Fisher-Price would put this item out in this condition (actually, F-P aren't what they used to be- don't get me started on the Kid Tough Mp3 player....)

Customer Review: Legs Don't Stay In
Summary: 3 Stars

We got this for our 3 year-old son for Christmas. I put it together and was very disappointed that the legs do not stay in the base. This wouldn't be so bad except that whenever you use the elevator it pulls the legs right out.
My husband called Fischer-price and they said "you have to force them in." We tried that, but there is nothing to force them into. There are buttons on the legs (think about adjusting a table leg - there are buttons on the inner piece and holes that hold the buttons in place). The base has nothing for the legs to lock into.
Fischer-Price is going to send us a label, we have to send it back, and they'll send us a new one. So we'll see.
Also, I'm not happy with the zip line. It pops out all the time. And the backpack harness is too hard for my son to use. He also can't get Diago in the helicopter very well and everytime to turns it on Diego goes flying out.
I'm surprised at how poorly made this item is. I don't believe they did any real testing with children or these problems would have been evident.
