Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Rock-a-Stack

Customer Review: toxic plastic?
Summary: 1 Stars

I called the fisher-price customer service line to ask if this product contained bisphenol-a (deemed toxic recently by Canada) and they refused to answer stating the content was a trade secret and spouting off a rehearsed line stating that the FDA had not found reason for concern about this type of plastic (in the two major studies conducted by them that were, surprise, funded by the plastics industry). I thanked them and bought something else, the Melissa and Doug stacker made of wood and lead-free paint. Fisher-price, shame on you for not being upfront about this. Get used to the question because American consumers are getting educated about this possible very dangerous plastic in our children's toys, baby bottles, Nalgene bottles and lining 95% of the canned food and soda we drink. If you aren't already aware of this danger, educate yourself and find out why Europe and Canada are removing it from food products and children's products.

Customer Review: simple but brilliant
Summary: 5 Stars

I remember having this toy from my childhood, and now I'm proud that my 7 mo old daughter has it now - updated of course. The new top ring has beads that roll around which is very captivating for an infant to watch. So far she can take all the rings OFF the stack, but not put them on yet. They're good "Chew toys" and I fell they are safer since they are NOT made in China, my package said Made in Mexico. I'm not too concerned about BPA since it's not being ingested or heated, and I don't even know if there is BPA in this toy, usually it's the harder plastics that contain BPA. The toy is easy to clean - you can take apart every piece including the yellow post from the base (Which we did the other day when she spit up on it). For this price, the toy provides HOURS of fun. A great first toy. Especially once your baby can sit on their own.

Customer Review: A classic that never goes out of style
Summary: 5 Stars

I can remember having one of these when I was a kid, and I was a little hesitent to get one for my daughter wondering if she would really find it that interesting to play with. As parents I think we tend to think our kids will only be drawn to the more impressive toys with the fancy bells and whistles, but often it seems like my daughter is more interested in the simpler and more basic toys.

When she was younger (9-12 months) my daughter was fascinated with taking the rings off of the tower, now that she's older (15 months) she likes to stack them on the tower and even tries to inter-change the colored rings with another similar stacking toy that she has.

As an easy, portable toy that does not require batteries or winding this is a winner all around - I'd say there's a reason it's been around for so long.

Customer Review: Great Developmental Toy
Summary: 5 Stars

My daughter (14 months old) was in the hospital for 5+ weeks, and I picked up this toy from Childlife. . . . You could just see her learning how to play with this deceptively simple toy. First she learned how to take the rings off, then how to put them on, then wearing the rings like braclets, then taking the rings off by "dumping" the stack, then pretending to wear the base like a hat, playing peek-a-boo with the rings over your eyes, etc. Some people mentioned how they don't like how the pole is tapered so all the rings won't fit if placed on out-of-order, but I like that feature. . . I feel like she will learn eventually how to put them on in order. It was refreshing to have a toy without lights, sounds, and batteries and be just as entertaining (at least at this age.) It is cheaper to buy elsewhere, though.

Customer Review: Seriously... how can this simple toy be so much fun?!?
Summary: 5 Stars

My 10 month old son has a zillion toys but this is one of his favorites! This toy serves multiple purposes. It has helped me to start teaching him colors as each donut is a different color. I made up a song about the colors and we sing it together. (Well actually I sing and he claps the donuts together). It is also good for counting. My son's favorite thing to do with these is clap them together and make noise. He also enjoys giving them to our dogs! Haha. They are virtually indestructible. This is one of those classic, simple yet most entertaining products on the market. We have 3 of them (one for each Grandma and our house as well). They are light weight, easy to take with you and provide hours of entertainment for the little ones. I would definitely invest the $5.00 for this toy. It gets 5 stars in my book!
