Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Little Super Star Classical Stacker

Customer Review: Tricky but entertaining!
Summary: 5 Stars

My daughter has had this toy from about 3 months. At first it was all about the visual experience; the colors, the sounds, the cause and effect of the button being pushed and the lights running up and down. Then, my daughter began with her fine motor skills. This was a great toy because the stars aren't too small/large or slippery. The raised lines and dots on them make getting a grip easier, also. However, the button on the side of the toy prohibits the baby from sliding the ring onto the peg with ease. I bought the old fashioned graduated ring set because this one button was frustrating her and causing her to avoid playing with the toy once she hit the block. If she were older I would have had her keep trying, but at such a young age of mere months, I don't think she needed that frustration. She would get so excited when she got the ring on the peg, but then couldn't figure out how to use force and push it/wiggle it down further and over the button. This is not a problem for my 15 month old nephew, but at 3-6 months THAT feature was not the best for her; however, I DO understand that this toy is marketed for children 6+ months. I'm just letting you know my experience with a younger baby. Now, at about 10 months she has no difficulty at all using the toy and I would still recommend this to younger babies as it is quite enticing to wiggle to or attempt to rollover to reach for.

Also, I MUST add...while I love this toy overall, it does NOT have an on/off button. I fell into this trap a few times after putting my baby to sleep while I was cleaning up her toys. Yes, I quickly learned that it doesn't ever really shut off and that my daughter absolutely the glittery, magical sounds of this toy so much that she is more than eager to wake up an play with it!

Customer Review: Classic toy, still really fun.
Summary: 4 Stars

My niece has had this toy since she was 6.5 months old. She's now 1 year old and she still loves it. This toy is simply a classic that never gets old!

So what's to like about this toy? First, the toy has 4 rings that you can place onto the "stand". Everytime you put a ring on or take it off, the toy makes a sound. It's a great toy to help teach baby cause and effect! When my niece was 6.5 months old, she couldn't put the rings on herself so we usually did it for her. The rings are fun on their own as well. My niece loves to hold small objects in her hands and bang them together so we give her a couple of rings and she is entertained for quite some time.

After you put the rings on, you can place the star on top of the "stand". When you do this, the toy plays a few different songs and the rings light up. My niece is enthralled with the "dancing" lights. Another thing I like about this toy is that the base of the toy is curved rather than a square so baby can push the toy around.

The one negative thing I have to point out is, of course, the batteries. The recommended age on this toy is 6-36 months. Although I don't think she'll be playing with it until she's 3 years old, months and months of use is sure to drain the batteries rather quickly. Be prepared to buy (or charge) a ton of batteries because this toy will no doubt be played with daily.

When it comes to classic toys that never go out of style, this toy is at the top of my list. I highly recommend it.

Customer Review: Grows with your child & fun
Summary: 5 Stars

We got a lot of mileage out of this little $12 toy. It is sturdy and fun. It was a favorite of our 1st child through the sitting, crawling, and initial walking stages, and it's still as good as new for child #2.

It was a great motivator when our son saw it on the other side of the room or at the end of the couch. At first he would just knock it over to play some music, but he learned to put the stars on in random order, then size order, and eventually he would take them off to use as "glasses" or make up some other game, and just press the buttons directly. The smiley top star was pretty much a doll for a few months.

The music is a little loud and there's no volume control, but it's nice; it's not a noisy toy -- you know the kind I mean.

When the stars are off, I was a little worried about having a big, plastic stick pointing up in the play area, but there were never any safety issues of any kind. The pieces even survive some teething, and are large enough to deter continued use as a teether.

It saw a lot of different uses, gave him a lot to do, while teaching some cause and effect, and even some early words later on("star","smile","music","button", etc.).

Customer Review: Classical stacker has all the right things!
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted to get my son another shape sorter, but he received this as a gift from big sister for Christmas.
I didn't know how he would react as he went through a phase of not liking toys that made any kind of noise.
This however has become his number one toy for right now.
First and a good plus is it has four different colors of stars that graduate in size, which if you look at each star-each one actually has two different shades.I like the fact that each star is transparent so when he puts it on the base, and the tunes start to play, the stars look like they are lighting up.
The stars are textured too and not just smooth, which makes them great for a child to feel the surface,as well as keeping them from getting too worn.I also like the fact that the stars are easy for him to hold and alot prettier and fun then the old style rings.
His favorite part of the toy is the star that goes on top.
It has a cute face and is a nice addition to "top off the stack."
This is so much better then a plain stacker with rings that just sit there, and while I am not much for just any electronic toy now a days but this one has a certain charm and likeability.

Customer Review: Makes a very compelling "magic" noise when it is touched
Summary: 4 Stars

I got this for my twin 10 month olds. When they touch/grab this toy, it makes a certain "magic charms" noise with flashing white lights inside that really gets their attention. At first they let go, look at it, and then touch again. Then they're likely to set off the actual music, and they appreciate that.

The lights, combined with the magic noise, gives this stacker an extra dimension. It's another great toy at a very reasonable price, and if you buy several toys, I'd go ahead and get it. Stackers are basic and this one is unique.

The only thing to watch out for is if the baby falls on the very top yellow piece, as that one looks to me as if it has some hard edges and could hurt. Not so the other pieces, which the babies love to play with. However, perhaps because I'm so vigilent, neither of my babies has fallen on the top hard plastic piece.

The bottom rocks, so it's deliberately not quite steady, and that makes a baby want to do something to it. Little Super Star Classical Stacker has attributes that get a baby's attention and reward that attention. I think all babies would like this stacker and the price seems reasonable to me.
