My mom bought this for my son who was 8 months at the time. At first he was scared of it, but one day he started playing with it, and wouldn't stop. His favorite is to just hit the rim over and over to get the noise made. As another reviewer pointed out, there is no extra benefit to putting the ball in the basket other than teaching your kid where the ball goes. The noise only goes off if you hit the rim, so at first I didn't like that. Then I realized that everytime my son would put the ball through the hoop, he'd lean on the rim anyways, so after that I stopped caring so much. My son is 13 months now and still loves this toy.
Once you put the hoop on, there's literally no way to take it off again, so if you ever want to store this back in the original box, you really can't.
