Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Baby Playzone: Pull Up Ball BlastCustomer Review: Really Fun Toy Summary: 4 Stars
My daughter loves this toy! We bought it for her for her first Christmas-she was 9 months old then; she is 26 months old now and still plays with it. At first, I had to show her how it worked and she would laugh at the music and look for the balls. As she got a bit older, she figured out how to put the balls in herself; in fact, she showed me that the music would play even if the ball is dropped in one of the side holes (I thought it would only work with the center hole). We added fun by doing a cute little dance to the music which has us both laughing. Now that she is older, she really likes to watch the balls come down the ramp. She has even tried to put balls from other toys in to see if they will work too (I've had to grab some out myself). The only problem I've had with this toy is that the balls seem to come out of the same hole 90% of the time, no matter where I put the toy. I don't think my daughter cares though. We went to a birthday party recently where the little girl had one and even the 5 year olds were having a blast with it! I would highly reccommend this toy.
Customer Review: VERY DANGEROUS! Summary: 1 Stars
We got this toy for my sons 1st birthday 2 weeks ago. We have all enjoyed it until last night when he almost broke his arm playing with it. He was standing up putting the balls through the holes and hanging onto the round handle. His arm slipped all the way up to his elbow through the hole. Before I could reach him, he toppled over and the toy fell in behind him pinning his arm and toy behind his back. He was very upset and didn't have any injuries, so we kissed and cuddled and off he went to play with it again. Not five minutes later I saw his arm slip through it again and I caught him before he fell over.
He is a very good walker and steady on his feet. I believe that with his arm stuck in the hole and not being able to pull it out scared him and that is when he fell. Needless to say, it almost went into the trash, but I talked my husband into putting it in the garage until I called Fisher Price.
They have great Customer Service. They took all of my information, apologized and will be sending a refund.
I just wanted to warn parents.
Thanks.
Customer Review: Bit of a disappointment ... Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this item because I wanted something that could help my son practice his pulling up and standing skills. Unfortunately, the Stand Up Ball Blast is too lightweight to stay on the floor whenever my son goes to pull down on it. Unless I hold two sides of it, the Ball Blast will fall over on my son. Even if I hold the sides, the top clicks and groans under his weight (only 19 pounds) and still bends downward making it almost impossible for my son to stand easily. For standing practice this item is a dud. But for pure fun and entertainment, it is terrific. It is always the first toy my son wants to play with whenever he enters his play area. He loves to stand and put the balls in the slots, and he loves to sit and put the balls in the sides. One good thing about this item is that it has two volume levels and an off switch, which we rarely use, but it's nice to know it's there if you need it. I was disappointed at the inability of this item to help my son practice pulling up and standing, but at this cheap price, it's worth having just for fun and play!
Customer Review: Fun, But Not Very Sturdy Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this toy for my son's first Christmas, when he was 9 months old. He had already been pulling up and manuevering around furniture for a good while, so I thought this would be perfect for him. He really did enjoy the toy; he loved to dance to the music (which is really quite modern sounding compared to other toys for children.) I have a couple of disappointments, however. The tower itself is not so sturdy; whenever my son would bend down to watch the balls roll down the ramp, the tower tilted with him. I am always on hand, so I'm not too concerned with him falling, but it is a hazard nonetheless. It also eventually causes the balls to stick in the ramp because after repeated "tilting" of the tower, the plastic loses some of it's initial rigidity, or it's intended rigidity, as it were. Finally, the balls don't always roll out the bottom as intended. At least not when it's standing on a carpeted surface. My son (now almost 12 mos.) has since outgrown the novelty of the toy, but he still enjoys throwing the balls around the living room~
Customer Review: Overall, a good toy Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this toy for our son when he started to pull himself up to stand. It was too easy for him to tip over at that point b/c he mostly used his arms to pull himself up. I had to "spot" him, but he loved to stand at it and play with the spinning circle on top and with the balls. (Our base is like the one pictured above.)
Now he is 11-months old and can pull up easily. He doesn't tip the toy over and I don't have to watch him as closely. He is no longer fascinated with the spinning circle on top, but he has learned how to push the button to make the music and lights go on. He also loves to put the balls up on the ramp and watch them go down....over and over again.
He still hasn't really caught on to pushing the balls throught the spaces on the top of the unit. I think that will be learned later.
I think this toy has been good not only for learning how to stand up, but for learning how to manipulate the balls and the controls on the top of the toy and for learning cause and effect in dropping the balls down the ramp.
