Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Baby Playzone: Pull Up Ball Blast

Customer Review: Dangerous!
Summary: 4 Stars

Haven't seen much negative here, but you need to know this. I bought this item for my 9 month old and he liked playing with it. He would pull himself up and walk in circles around it. It seemed like a fun and useful toy. The problem is that the top round piece can easily fall off -- which ours did -- and expose a sharp, pointy rod. It poked my son in the corner of his eye and gave him a nasty cut. Luckily no serious damage occured. I assumed I just had a bad model or possibly my 3 daughter had played with it too rough until another parent told me the VERY SAME THING happened to them. My wife researched this though an online parenting group and they confirmed this is a common problem. In the end, my wife called Fisher Price to ask/complain and they said they have had some complaints about the top coming off and exposing a sharp point. They quickly offered to replace the toy with a different toy...So, although Fisher Price makes good toys and this is a fun one too, I think the risk is too high. If you saw that spike, you would be shocked at how easily your child could be very badly hurt. Skip it and buy something else.

Customer Review: It is a blast!
Summary: 5 Stars

My son is 13 months old and loves this that he got for his birthday a month ago. It is tons of fun for him and it has helped in his standing up (now he is a walking maniac!) because it makes him want to stand up to see the top and figure out how to put the balls in. He loves finding out which hole they come out. I totally recommend this. And my cats find it fun to pat the balls around the house. The toy does lean a little when he pulls up on it but overall, it's great!

Edited to add that I HAVE seen what other reviewers have talked about how it tips over. So MAKE SURE you buy the kind with the longer base (the holes where the balls come out, there are extenders that come in the newer models to help prevent the tip over). Our model has the extenders so he hasn't tipped it over. But he has pushed it over just for fun ha ha. He is almost 14 months old and I still totally recommend this. He doesn't play with it as much but I keep it in the living room and at least once a day he will sit and stand at it for a half hour and play with it or you can see him walking around carrying the balls that go to it.

Customer Review: A little tippy at first
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this when my son started to pull himself up on the furniture. I thought this would be great because he loves anything musical and things that roll. The first thing I discovered when I put it together is it's a bit tricky. Be patient when attaching the spiral as the pieces don't line up properly at first. It is quite durable, but I think it's unstable for babies who haven't quite gotten their balance yet. I had to hold on to the top whenever my son tried to pull up on it to play so it wouldn't topple over. Now that he's had a little practice, I don't have to anymore. He's learning cause and effect when placing the balls into the top and pushing them through to hear the music, and that he has to reach down and pick the balls up in order to keep hearing the music. He's also learning not every toy he owns will work with the Ball Blast. Blocks definately won't fit and roll down the track. At first, it didn't seem to interest him too much, but as he learned how to play with it, the time is increasing. I would recommend this toy when your baby has a better sense of balance just for safety sake.

Customer Review: Another simple, but GREAT toy!

I was sorry to hear that most of the bad reviews were based on "the wobbley version", which I thankfuly do NOT have. But here are a few reasons why I LOVE this toy

* Its a great way for my 8 month old b/b twins to "pull up"
* The sounds DO NOT get annoying, and its great to see my 3 year olds dance to it lol
* It can take some other balls, (my kids have managed to stuff peek-a-rounds into this thing)
* They think its like "basket ball"!
* Alot of colors and sounds
* They NEVER get bored of it
* Makes them stand then sit/squat (get up and put the ball in, go down to pick it back up) which is great for strenghtening their mucels but one of the few ways in which no moving is involved lol
* There is more than one way to get the balls in, great for when more kids are playing at a time

My kids REALLY love this and even drag it around the house! They fight over who gets to play with it too. Its a nice toy, but one of those toys that can't fit into the toy box! All in all my kids all are in love with this toy, so I guess I am too!

Customer Review: Be careful!
Summary: 5 Stars

My daughter got this toy when she was 9 months old, and she is now 18 months old. I think she has played with it every day, since she got it. She loves to throw anything and everything in there and watch it come out, and she has gotten her arm stuck a few times trying to pull things out the top, but I don't think that is a dangerous feature. The only thing I didn't like about this toy was when she was learning to pull herself up, which is the whole point of the toy, (it is even in the title), the base is not weighted and she would fall straight backwards and hit her back and head on the floor and the toy would land on top of her. Once this happened, I would watch out for it and she knew enough to be careful, too, so it wasn't a problem. Fisher Price offered to take the toy back, but she has so much fun with it, I didn't want them to. Now that she is running around, it is no longer an issue and she still loves it. I would definitely recommend this toy, but with a warning to watch babies who are not standing on their own, yet, very closely when they are pulling themselves up.
