Toys and Games Reviews of Fisher-Price Amazing Animals Sing and Go Choo-ChooCustomer Review: One of the best toys we own! Great for children of all ages. Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this train when our son was 6 months old, after watching him thoroughly enjoy one at a cousin's house. He loves it and we are thrilled that we bought it. He has played with it ever since, and even more than any other toy he has. Not only that, but every child that has come to our house has enjoyed it, whether they were 6 months old up to 9 years! It simply captivates children of all ages. This thing is super cute and extremely durable. Even after repeated abuse (beating on it, throwing it, standing on it, even puking on it ;), it runs like a top! It even runs great on carpet! The batteries last surprisingly long on it too. In a year and a half, I think I've only changed them twice, and considering how much it is played with, that is remarkable.
It is a noise-maker, with songs and sounds, but there is a low and high volume switch (as well as an off switch) and the low setting is very tolerable. The music is really great--anything gets annoying after it's repeated many times of course, but all things considered, these songs are very well done and I enjoy them.
Just a side note that has probably already been mentioned: if you get all the train cars and hook them up, the engine isn't quite strong enough to pull them all. And then, it may do better on a hard floor rather than carpet--I haven't actually tried that. Nevertheless, that hasn't ruined the experience for my child in any way. He loves this toy, and the animals all by themselves are enough to entertain for long periods.
One more small thing: you have to buy all the rest of the train pieces and extra animals separately. This can get pretty pricey. I have seen a few deals where you can get a couple of cars and animals in a multi set for a better price. We had grandparents and friends who were encouraged to add pieces for my son's birthday and Christmas, so it actually worked out quite well. All in all, this toy gets a A+ from our family, and I would totally recommend it to anyone!
Customer Review: Adorable! Summary: 4 Stars
This animal train is an adorable toy. My 2 year old has this and she loves it. 2 or 3 is definitely not too old for this. It's really cute and not so babyish that it seems inappropriate to give to this age.
It's nice that this train goes so well on carpet, unlike some other toys. There is no problem with that.
My daughter especially likes the sturdy, colorful animals that came with this. Her set came with a giraffe, an elephant, and a monkey. The giraffe's & elephant's joints make cool clicking noises when you move them around. This is very appealing to little kids. Our monkey is not jointed and makes no sounds. A previous reviewer said something about the monkey making sounds. That person must have been referring to a monkey that came in a separate set because the one pictured here doesn't do anything.
One thing my husband and I don't like about this train is the singing. Singing is good, don't get me wrong. It's just that the woman's voice on this thing is LOUD and annoying and she isn't singing known songs. There are 2 volume choices- loud and louder. We ended up putting a few layers of tape over the speaker holes & it's still loud. As for the songs on this, I'd think "I've been working on the railroad" or something like that would have been nice rather than the made up nonsense that this train has. It would also be nice if the train would run without the music turned on, but it doesn't.
Overall, great toy but horrible music.
Customer Review: The kids LOVE it, but.... Summary: 4 Stars
I have twin boys who will be two very soon, and they fight over this all the time. I am buying another one for their birthday so they don't fight over it anymore. I waited so long because I thought they would lose interest, but it hasn't happened yet!
They received this when they were 8 months and just starting to walk. They loved it immediately, and they still love it. The biggest draw for them are the handles - they can literally run all over the house by pushing the train while holding the handles.
They also like watching the train move by itself, but that feature does not always work. In fact, it stopped working within a month of getting the train, then started up again a few months later, now it is touch-and-go. They get pretty excited when it does work, though, so I am hoping the new one will keep working. The music isn't too annoying for me, and the sounds are fun.
Now, my biggest question is why the high price on Amazon? I expected you would get the whole set (all the animals and additions) for over $100, but I keep reading the description and it says you only get the 3 animals, just like at Toys R Us, but there, it is only $30. (Which I STILL think is higher than it should be, but I am willing to pay since I know my boys will use it.) I hope I am just mistaken, because that seems a bit outrageaous to me.
Customer Review: Cute toy, just not a fovorite Summary: 4 Stars
My twins got this toy for their first birthday, they are now 17 months. They like the train and all of the animals; it is just not a favorite toy.
They like the train, but we had to turn of the moving function (thumbs up for being able to turn off the wheels) because my daughters kept stopping it from moving away from them.
The songs are annoying, but upbeat. We all like the animal sounds you get when you push the bell or place an animal in the engine. I just wish that some of the animal sounds were more identifiable as to which animal says what (what animal says "chomp, chomp"?).
All of the animals except for the monkey that comes with the train give satisfying clicking noises when you move the arms/legs around. The bottom of the feet/hands all have different colors and sometimes beads for added interest. The twins like to play with the animals and move their arm/legs into all sorts of unnatural poses. My favorite is the flying giraffe.
We have since bought/received most of the rest of this series of toys and they seem to be all similar. The polar bear and the monkey set are nice because they have electronic animal sounds when you move the head and have carrying cases.
Customer Review: Cute, gets boring Summary: 3 Stars
The animals are popular around here, but the train itself isn't as interesting as they make it sound. It seems like a random selection, even with the different modes, and it doesn't recognize the animal placed in it like some people think (which is really confusing when our toddler puts a giraffe in and it makes ape noises at first). There is music when the smokestck is pushed and animals noises and other music when the thing next to the smokestack is pushed. The songs aren't great; the tune is ok as far as these kinds of toys go but the words aren't catchy enough to learn to sing to. And it only goes in a straight line. Five songs, I think someone mentioned? Not sure, as it's so random we haven't been bothered to pay attention carefully enough. It does move on carpet though there have been a few times when it just wouldn't go for whatever reason. If it hits an obstacle and stops moving, the music gets all warped and then shuts off. Unless you have a huge house that doesn't have other toy clutter, the train won't go very far. And to turn it around usually means all the carts fall off. Some strategically place velcro helps even for straight-line travel. Not sure if I'd get this again for them.
