Toys and Games Reviews of Fascinations AntWorks Illuminated BlueCustomer Review: Antworks was a hit! Summary: 5 Stars
Our 2 girls aged 4 and 6, got this for Christmas. The first time we ordered the ants they did arrive dead but then we ordered again and got them in two days at no extra charge (last time it was about a week) and only one was dead. It has been really neat to watch them. They only brought one dead one up to the surface though so at this time we have a lot of dead ants but it has been 4 months and we still have a few still alive. When they are all dead we may put some from outside in or order another batch to see what happens since the tunnels are already made. This has been a lot of fun though and we even brought it to my 4 yr old's school for her classmates to see. Plus their friends that come over have wanted to see them.
Customer Review: Zero customer service from Life Studies Summary: 1 Stars
The problem we are having with Life Studies is that they do not return my calls. We have called numerous times and left polite messages.
We received our harvester ants the other day and the vial was crushed and all the ants were dead. As stated before, we have tried numerous times to contact Life Studies to order new ants. We are now taking the problem to the post office...guessing that the bugs got crushed in mailing.
However, it would be nice to have someone from Life Studies to speak with, maybe request the ants to be packaged in a box instead of placing the vial into an envelope that offers no protective support. That being said, our $$ ant farm is still sitting empty on my daughters dresser.
Customer Review: 5 Star's (if the lights didn't blow out!) Ant Farm... Summary: 4 Stars
This is a beautiful ant farm, by far! But after two plug in's so to speak, the lights blew out-now we are only left with two working lights! Ugh! The beauty is in the lights, especially with the blue color. The first shipment of ants were smashed (due to the postal service)and we had waited over 4 weeks, the second shipment arrived in seven days-37 live ants in all! Beware, it is a small vile, so when you are trying to open the tube to get them into your farm, it gets scary for sure!! The ants are big!! I had to keep tapping the tube and dumped all the ants (only two dead ones really) out quick! I would give this five stars if the lights were still active, that really stinks! Oh well, should be fun all the same!
Customer Review: So Cool! Summary: 5 Stars
I was glad I read other reviews first. I made sure to order my ants from somewhere besides antsalive. I ordered regular mail from Edmund Scientific (form in kit). I placed my order on Monday and Wednesday the ants arrived at my door! The whole family is enjoying watching the ants build their tunnels. You are supposed to put a few holes with the tool to get them started. I only recommend you make their "starter" holes near the plastic walls. It didn't say this in the directions and if they aren't near the walls you can't see them through the gel. Also, although some of the ants were dead on arrival (normal), there were way more than 30 in the shipment, so it made up for the dead ants.
Customer Review: Re-usability ! Summary: 3 Stars
This is a fascinating product and my two young kids loved watching the tunnels grow and grow. The only caveat is that you get 2-3 months of enjoyment and that is it. I had high hopes that it could be re-used, but that is not really the case. After all the original ants have died, you must clean them out and some of the gel is lost as well. You are then left with a complete tunnel system. You CAN put new ants in, but they re-use existing tunnels, and it was watching the tunnel construction that captured the attention of the kids.
This product is very well built and the idea so clever that it is a shame there isn't a way to get more than 2-3 months of entertainment and learning.
