Customer Review: So fun to watch!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this for my 8 year-old son, and I think we enjoy it as much as he does! We ordered the ants online from Life Science, and they came in about 9 days. I thought they were all dead when we received them, because it was so cold out; but we dumped them in, and within 30 minutes they were all very active (not a single dead ant). This would be a perfect gift. Just a few tips: it took our ants almost 4 days to begin tunneling (I thought for sure they just weren't going to!) Once they started, they went really quickly! When lifting the cover, be VERY careful, the ants ALL rush to the top! Also, they seem to be more willing to dig in tunnels that are started a little bit wider. The hole-poking tool seemed a bit narrow, so we tried the eraser-end of a pencil, and they responded quickly. Have fun!!

Customer Review: A bit boring
Summary: 3 Stars

My daughter had ladybug farm and butterfly garden in the past and it was so much fun and very educational. This one is not so funny, not so educational. The first two days were great. When our ants tried to establish their tunnels and we clearly saw them working hard and building their new home. Now there are many tunnels and the view is very unclear. The ants all the times look the same and are doing the same jobs (the butterflies and ladybugs are changing). I know that this is very obvious but when I ordered this farm I didn't realized those facts. One more explanation. When I ordered the farm I was under the impression that I paid for the whole set( farm and ants coupon). No, there is only form for ants but you have to pay for the ants. There is no free coupons inside the package.

Customer Review: Wonderful!
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered the ant farm for my 10-year old son for Christmas, and it is a huge hit--with both he and my 4-year old daughter. I took the excellent advice from another Amazon customer who suggested ordering the ants from [...]. The ants arrived in less than a week. I even waited a few hours to put them in the habitat until my son got home (two died, but all the others survived). We put the little guys in the 'fridge for about 10 minutes to slow them down and then popped off the lid and put them into the habitat with no problems. Within an hour they were tunneling into the holes we made with the little poker stick, and within a few hours they had already connected two of the tunnels. They've continued to tunnel like crazy. Overall this was one of the best gifts of the season!

Customer Review: Thrilled With This Product!
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this as a Christmas gift for my daughter. Unfortunately, the ants didn't arrive until a week after Christmas, but it was ok. We were all so amazed at how quickly the ants started making tunnels! It took them only a few hours to make a tunnel and watching them work was so fascinating. Now, they have made several tunnels that connect to each other and are still working on constructing another one. This product is great, not only for kids, but for adults, as well. I find myself looking at it several times a day just to see what the ants have done. The blue light that illuminates it make it all the more interesting. Very educational item that is bound to be a hit with both young and old alike. I may have to order several more myself.

Customer Review: A tricky way to educate
Summary: 5 Stars

My 8-year-old son received this as a Christmas gift. The ants quickly arrived and were much larger than we anticipated which made them easier to observe. He took photos every 8 hours and created a photo journal of the experience which he shared with his third grade class. His teacher also allowed him to bring in the item for show and tell. Our entire family learned a lot about ant behavior. The neatest part of the entire experience was literally watching the ant dig and carry pieces of gel to the surface. They also carried dead ants to one of the lowest points in the container and avoided the area afterwards. The ants lasted a very, very long time. It was easy to rinse out and we plan to reuse it again when it's warmer.
