Customer Review: life works is not reputable for ordering ants

I ordered my ants from life works, as stipulated on the box the ant farm, and when they arrived, 6 out of 25 were alive. I called them back, emailed them, and faxed them, and never got a response. However, another shipment of ants came, and this time they were ALL dead. To top it off, Life Works has charged my credit card twice for the ants, and I can't get anybody on the phone or by email to give me a response or to correct it. DO NOT DEAL WITH LIFE WORKS!!! I have reported them to the better business bureau, and I'm refusing the charges that they billed without my consent.
BTW, the ant farm itself is really neat...

My kids are fascinated watching the ants tunnel. The illuminated version is well worth the extra money. We found that you can put two, or even three, batches of ants (after each previous one died) in one gel block. In fact after the first batch lays the ground work, the subsequent group's tunnels begin to resemble the photo in the advertisement. The only thing I lamented was that once the gel was used up you had to throw the whole thing away (less the light base, of course), but now you can buy a gel replacement online for around $9. We have bought several and given them out as gifts and they are always a big hit.Customer Review: Great fun while learning.

I purchased the ant farm during the holidays for my younger brother and I to learn more about ants. Getting started was much easier than the traditional ant farms where you have fill it with the sand and whatnot. With this product all you do is poke holes about one inch deep with the provided stick and fill up with ants and watch those suckers dig!
I was surprised to find that this toy actually kept my brother and I entertained. We were excited everyday to check up on the ants and see what progress they had made. This was definitely a great purchase and I recommend it to everyone of all ages.

Everyone in the family keeps checking up on the ants! It's really neat to see what they're up to all the time, and follow up on their progress with the tunneling. This provides a maintenance-free ongoing science lesson!
Ants are not included, but you can order them online - very inexpensive. They do, however, take a while to arrive, so you might want to order them at the same time you order the farm. You want harvester ants from Ants Alive...
Anyway, great product, very easy to set up and use, and very cool with the lights and everything. Fascinating to watch.

The Ant Farm was much smaller than we expected, but the blue lights make it interesting. The ants were very active the first couple days, building 2 different tunnels, but are now not so active. They are still fun to watch since some of them crawl through the tunnels, but most of them huddle at the bottom of the farm. Follow the directions and order Harvester Ants from any link off where you purchase the farm. They are big ants and are neat to watch. The best part - no feeding or clean-up! Overall, well worth the money, especially when you see people's reactions to it.
