I had never heard of sea monkeys when I bought them for my seven year old last year for Christmas. I only bought them because they had such good reviews. Am I ever glad I listened. My daughter still talks about them 12 months later. She kept them on her dresser and watched them constantly. They stuck around for about 6 weeks. That's when her little brother knocked them across the bedroom floor. Hint: Keep away from younger siblings. She cried forever. We're definitely getting more this year. My grandaughter, filled with excitement and anticipation, poured the instant life package into the prepared water in the aquarium and nothing happened. We are still watching and waiting for some movement or growth in the tank. We are on the 5th day and see just scum on the bottom. What a disappointment to the children. The same thing happened to her little friend who is also waiting to see something in the tank. I would not recommend the product. As a child I had Sea-Monkeys and loved them. Now as a mom I have Sea-Monkeys for my family they are VERY VERY easy to care for (no cleaning, occasional feeding and occasionally add plain bottled water, That's it!) and provide many learning experiences from light experiments to their reproduction plus they have a very informative and entertaining web site and book providing scientific info. Also for those of you that like gadgets you can buy all sorts of cute extras.Customer Review: overrated and boring

Oh come on! I believed all the glowing reviews (are you guys serious?) and the advertising hype and bought some of these. What you get is a small, cheap plastic container that you grow these "sea monkeys" in. You would be better off getting a glass jar and finding some stagnant water and growing mosquito larvea.
Or go down to your local pet shop and buy some brine shrimp.
These things are not pets or "sea monkeys" but rather pond scum.

I'm only 13 and I love them.Everyone should get one for their children, spouse, and friend. If my science teacher made us do a science project on marine animals mine would be on sea-monkeys! I got them when I was 10 and I couldn't find them anywhere until I found them at amazon.com. Did you know that sea-monkeys have their own website? It's at www.seamonkeys.com. I love them and I think that you should try them. I'm sure that you'll love 'em too!
