Customer Review: Tank defective, few sea monkeys hatched and all died young

I bought this for my son for Christmas and became way more interested in it than he did. I followed the directions exactly, but I only got a few to hatch and they died within a couple of days (yes, I aerated the tank and did not overfeed). My sea monkeys never got anywhere near as large as the ones in the customer images.
One possible reason for this is that the light would not stay lit. Every time I put in new batteries the light would only last a couple of hours. I tried at least four sets of batteries before I gave up. I will probably try again, but I would not buy this particular tank because I believe that the light was defective. I suggest another tank, but I think every kid should have sea monkeys at least once in their lifetime.

i bought the "magic sea castle" kit of amazing sea monkeys for my husband this christmas. i was primarily hoping that he had seen the ad in comic books of olde and therefore enjoy the "retro" aspect of this gift. we started the batch the next day, and he is on his second kit and loves his sea monkeys. he happily watches them and their growth each day with a magnifying glass, and he charts their feeding and plasma adding times on his pocket pilot. my heart fills with gladness to see him really enjoy this gift. it's educational and interesting and so inexpensive. i'm grateful that amazon.com recognized the value and is selling these kits of amazing sea moneys. thanks a lot.Customer Review: Sea Monkeys- They're really instant life!

Sea Monkeys are truly one of the easiest pets I've ever known you can care for. These little brine shrimp hatch
in 24 hours instantly, and just a small amount of growth
food in the set is all you need to give them once a week
and keep them alive. You get dozens in one pack, and
guarnteed to live for 2 YEARS! (Unlike fish, which can die
and be flushed in a week.) The sets, like the Ocean of Light,
are delightful. With little castles and caverns for your
little pets to swim in, any kid (or adult!) could easily fall
in love with them. I highly recommend Sea-Monkeys if you want
easy, fun, cheap but long-living pets.

Sea monkeys rule. This toy has proven to give me a hobby (and I did need one) both at work and at home. They're great for hanging out with and they never complain about... well, anything! It beats the traditional human friend hands down.Well... maybe not the traditional human friend... But they beat any other friendship I have had.
The only thing that I disliked about it was the danger of getting them knocked over. I am always worried about my little Atermias... I think that the company should try to make a more water-tight container that still has ventilation.
I just can't wait to see what Exploratoy will come up with next!!

We were very disappointed with this kit. We followed the instructions exactly. We used purified water, temp control, lighting, aerating the water, feeding etc. When the sea monkeys "hatched", we could barely see them. But after a few days they got bigger and we were getting excited. We had about 30 of them. Then by day seven, all but two of them died! They make these creatures out to be like little people. The fact is, they are very small, fragile and much more care taking is involved. The guarantee is also only for replacement, which requires you to send them a shipping fee! Waste of time and money in my opinion.
