Toys and Games Reviews of Snap Circuits Jr. SC-100

Customer Review: An inviting an encouraging tool for young and old minds
Summary: 5 Stars

Excellent hands on learning tool for young and old minds to explore and understand the basic workings of electricity from a safe interactive point. Children get a good understanding of how circuits are built, how they work, how they can be used and manipulated. While the concept of using snaps is a great way to ensure the durablitly of the kit, children who tend to be too rough with their toys will need to learn to use this kit with care or else certain parts could easily break. I agree with one of the other reiveiwers who said that an LED on all the parts would be helpful in showing the direction of the flow of electricity once the circuits are completed and switched on. My son is 4 and has been mesmerized with this kit for a month now. A great introduction into the world of electricity for the thoughtful child.

Customer Review: Educational Investment!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this for my 5 1/2 yr old Grandson for our summer vacation together. This was a hit! We went through 6 (of the 100) experiments, then he wanted to "experiment" on his own. We went over some "rules" of how to treat the pieces properly - then I left him on his own for an hour (watching from the sidelines)... He was making the "fan" shoot up in the air based on how much resistance he used... and decided how far away he could "whistle" from the board and make the music go on ... etc. After an hour we did a couple more experiments and learned about the affect of a "parallel circuit design". "Grandma, check this out...!" with each trial. All in all we had a great time learning together. At this age "IMO" this is a great way to have "one-on-one" time. I'm looking forward to adding on to this set.

Customer Review: It's Electric!
Summary: 5 Stars

My 2nd grader loves playing with this set and the expansion with his dad (it seems the set is best if kept with adult supervision, as I don't imagine the parts taking a beating very well). I know his comprehension of the workings is limited for now, but the simplification will allow him to be introduced to the idea of how things work and understanding will come with time and experience with the projects. I've been impressed with the functionality for such a simple set and he's totally thrilled to build working constructions. This is a very clever toy set and compared to some of the science toys I remember playing with is a lot more far sighted in terms of reusable parts and multiple projects to be performed (as opposed to the one-off built things that then become junk in a drawer)

Customer Review: Exellent intro to circuitry
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a friend who bought this for her kids for their homeschool. When we visited, my boys spent HOURS going through all the experiments and rushing up the stairs to show us how each one worked. I was really impressed with A)how long the toy kept the attention of my constantly moving boys and B)how the gentle introduction into electronics and circuits made it very easy to explain how these actual events work. I spent a number of minutes sharing and teaching in terms that my young children understood and am grateful that the doors of knowledge were opened without me having to force it down their throats. With so many experiments, it takes a while for them to get bored. The smaller kits are cool but are mastered quickly. This set takes a while to master.

Customer Review: Best way to learn about Electricity without *wires* !
Summary: 5 Stars

Outstanding game which *grows* with your child -- as you can upgrade the kit. Projects range from simple to complex. Snapping connections is easy for the kids. Just as an example, my child quickly picked up the concepts of "switches" once he assembly the first few projects. Also helps in troubleshooting -- what is the diff bet. a open and closed circuit ?

Only "con" -- wish there was more details about the project and how does it work. Many project are variations of a "base" project. Say -- substitute bulb with the Motor.

As an enhancement it will be very cool to have small LEDs on the connections showing the flow of electricity !!

Overall a must have science kit for children ! You won't waste your money on this one !
