I gave this to my grandson for his 8th birthday. He immediately used it and we spent part of that day examining various items from sand to blood to insects. It seems sturdy and came with extra blank slides, tools, and a booklet with suggested exercises. It could use a few more prepared slides than came with it for the younger user. At this age he was so eager to use it, he did not have enough patience to read the instructions and make his own slides carefully but still enjoyed the microscope with adult assistance.Customer Review: I love it!

I got this microscope and right away was able to look at different things. I even looked at things like bee wings, cricket legs, my mom's hair, my dog's fur, and a flower petal. The pre-made slides that came with it were pretty cool too - I liked the onion cells best. I would highly recommend this microscope for you to buy. One of the things I don't like so much about it is the cover slips for the slides you can make for yourself - I don't understand why they are round, and many of them are kind of scratched.Customer Review: returned....

Had to return this item the day after it was given as a gift for my son. Both light bulbs that came with it burnt out literally seconds from turning them on. The make of the microcope was not at all durable and the eye piece seemed small. This was not a product with kids or ease in mind. Ended up spending a tad more and getting the 'My First Lab Duo-Scope'...and would highly recommend that product.Customer Review: Don't Buy This!

I bought this for my daughter for Christmas last year. Within the first hour, it blew a lightbulb. The included replacement bulb lasted about two hours. I called the company and they sent me a new one. This one didn't work at all! And...it took forever to arrive. This is a terrible product and I wouldn't waste my time or money with it.Customer Review: discouraging to kids

We returned this microscope. It was heart breaking to watch my son try to work it only to become frustrated and discouraged. This is more of a toy and not a microscope. You get what you pay for. If you want to dissuade your child from wanting to be a scientist, this is the microscope for you. Amazon was very good about taking it back.
