Customer Review: Amazing, durable Sea Monkeys - fantastic office aquarium!

I missed out on keeping Sea Monkeys when I was a kid. So, when I saw this kit online, I tossed it into my shopping basket thinking it'd be a nice kitch-y piece for my office. Little did I know how much I would enjoy this little kit!It takes about a week for the tank to truly be hopping with Sea Monkeys (fairy/brine shrimp). At first, when they hatch, they aren't much to look at - tiny, almost invisible moving specks of white in the water. Within a week, they become about 4-5mm long, though, and easily viewed with the naked eye. They reproduce and hatch even more little ones, creating a perfect never-ending aquarium that requires little maintenence.
This kit has been the topic of much curiousity with people in my office. "What the heck are those?" they marvel at my little pets.
To truly help your sea-monkeys to thrive, do occasionally aerate the water. You can bubble air into the tank with the included 'aqua leash' in the kit. I tend to do it once or twice a day when I'm in the office, but that's probably overkill. A spoonful of food once a week, and your sea monkeys will be happy and healthy. Currently, my Magic Castle contains about 20 large-sized sea monkeys and many infants. Occasionally, you may want to use the included aqua leash to vacuum up some of the debris that will form on the bottom of the tank - algae and other stuff - but that's more for appearances than anything else. (Be sure not to accidentally vacuum up one of your sea monkey pals in the process like I did!)
While sea monkeys are not 'pretty' like tropical fish, their ease of care makes them a perfect cubicle companion. They're fun to watch - they become the most active in late afternoon. I've enjoyed this tank and plan on getting their "Sea Monkeys on Mars" tank when it is available.
Customer Review: Interesting past time/"pets" even for adults

I bought this about a week ago, purely out of boredom to buy something and I recalled as a child how others had them, and I never had them myself. I didn't wait the full 24 hours the first day after adding the purifier, but it didn't change too much except that when I added the second packet, the eggs didn't hatch right away and I was straining to see where the little brine shrimps were and they eventually hatched later. They were so microscopic initially that I wasn't sure if I was seeing wiggly little things or not. Then as each day passed, I noticed more and more and bigger and bigger they got. I used the Aqua-leash to bubble air and aerate the tank. Within like 3-4 days, I could only approximate that I had like 50 or so brine shrimps already -- amazing to have so much. I added food and it made the tank a bit cloudy looking and could see green deposits on the bottom. The Aqua-leash doesn't go deep enough without causing water to go above the holes at the top, so sometimes I remove some salt water into another container and then put the Aqua-leash further down to the bottome to aerate the bottom of the tank. The magnifying top piece is helpful, but I found my own magnifying glass that really makes them so much bigger and easier to view. There are official and unofficial websites that show how big and maybe a bit creepy how they look when they are adults (looks like swimming fleas) and how you can make rainbow colored brine shrimps too. I'm ordering the space shuttle and the explora sub as well as they come with more stuff and light and aeration system. Have fun!!Customer Review: oh fates! why have you forsaken my monkey!?!?!?!

There is nothing majestic about the Sea Monkey Magic castle. It is a dark tower of sea monkey doom. Let me explain. Too many times have I summoned the monkey apocalypse ravaging death by toppling over the traditional ill-balanced monkey worlds. I purchased the magic castle because the round base of the castle appeared to be a solid and stable foundation, one in which the monkey Peter could build a church to ward off the careless gyrations of their insane deity. To this end, the magic castle served its purpose faithfully. However the fatal flaw of the castle lies in its miniscule dome-like opening which confines the monkeys' exposure to oxygen slowly and callously depriving them of life. As I am a benevolent god, the cruelty of this "magical" world was denied to my monkeys as they were lacking enough air for Genesis -- stillborn into their primordial ooze. Desponded and despaired, I await the evaporation of The Flood so that I may resurrect the corpses of my fallen children in some sort of necromancer zombie-monkey darkness. Sitting in my throne, snorting lines from the mysterious packet of powdery Amazing Plasma III to invoke visions of The Second Coming, I puzzle at what evil denied the inclusion of the thousand-bubble aerator to the Amazing Live Sea-Monkeys Magic Castle. I found this kit to be the best of the kits made for seamonkies. There really is not a big need for the magnifying lens because of the cylindrical shape of the tank makes everything larger. You'll know what I mean when you pour in the water. This tank looks large but it is actually rather small, which I liked. Its the same size as a regular coke can (the base is larger though). The shape and the base makes it harder to tip over than the Ocean Zoo, Oceans of Light, Ghost Ship, Imaginarium, etc kits. Instead of having a huge gapping air hole, there are four 4mm in diameter holes in the top. The only negative aspect I found in this design is that the top of the tank does not attach on or screw on, it simply lays on top of the hole. I have my kit in a well protect-from-spills area, but in case if there was one, the top would easily fall off and all the water spill out.
My highest suggestion if you are going to get this kit is to find a warm area for it!! Seamonkies grow MUCH larger in warmer water. My first tank was not place in a warm area when I hatched them 1 1/2 months ago, they are currently still the same size as the tank I just started 3 weeks ago. Buy an aquarium thermometer...

At work, my friends and I tired of the monotonous humdrum of 9-5 life, full of petty requests, paper pushing, and butt-kissin'. For a lil' excitement, we would run around our cubes, pretending that we were swimming like sea monkeys. One Wednesday, we even dressed up like sea monkeys. Well let me tell you, our boss almost died. In fact, our boss fired poor Michelle after she mistakingly ran into our boss' cubicle and toppled it over. O Man!!!! Was that funny or what!!!!!???? (If anybody has a job for Michelle, let me know.) Anyway, because we had an open-desk, we decided to fill the void with the Sea-Monkey Castle. It is kick-butt. It is so kick-butt that we have all but forgotten about Michelle. They swim, sleep, eat, and are easy to clean up after. I think that one is imitating me. Is it possible for sea-monkeys to imitate humans? Can I train a sea-monkey to do my work? That would be cool. Anyway, i totally recommend the Sea-Monkey Castle, it will change your life, and make it easier for you to forget the hardships of everyday life. Trust me, its true. My sea-monkey is named C-Monkey.
