Toys and Games Reviews of Discover Sounds KitchenCustomer Review: Waiting to discover what all the hype is about.... Summary: 4 Stars
After reading the reviews of this item, I let my mother-in-law purchase this item for my 11 month old son yesterday. I was pretty excited to take this toy home and play with it. However, once I got it out of the box my excitement fizzled. After putting together the workshop, I realized that the battery part of the shape sorter was missing...so were the shapes! I called Little Tikes and the were great about Fed-Exing me the missing pieces. Although there were parts missing I went ahead let my son have a turn at it. I began to see that the toy isn't as strong as many of the other Little Tikes toys we have. It is really flimsy. I was aware, thanks to the reviews, to prop it up against a couch. That did not stop my son from tipping it over. Jaden is having fun with it. He likes playing with the drill press and it is the right size for him. I think that the Discover Sounds Kithchen would have been more fun, but I am going to wait until the battery shape sorter arrives and then I will decide.
Customer Review: Discovery Sounds Kitchen Summary: 4 Stars
I read quite a few of the reviews for this toy at this site and, as a result, I had some reservations about purchasing this toy for my 1 year old daughter. Since we already had a large kitchen (from her older sister), I decided to go ahead and try this, anyway, for the interim. And I am very glad that I did. My daughter has really enjoyed playing with it... she adores making the "ice" come out of the "ice machine". She also loves to open the microwave and oven doors to put things in. I am very happy that we decided to give this a try. My daughter is only 13 months and I have a feeling that this toy will be played with for quite some time to come. The comments about it tipping over are valid, but we have it up against a sturdy surface, which is where we would have kept it anyway. In addition, I do agree that the phone is quite frustrating, in that it barely stays in its holder. My daughter, however, is not bothered by this one bit! All in all, I do highly recommend this toy.
Customer Review: Great Fun for Little Ones, but Topples Easily Summary: 3 Stars
Good Points: For the past few months, the kitchen has been able to entertain our 11 month old son. It's his favorite toy to play with for 15-20 minutes at a time in the morning before he heads off to daycare. The refrigerator door is designed with a lot of space behind it so little fingers can't get caught when it is opened all the way. It has enough extra pieces to amuse our child, but not too many that it is difficult to find them when cleaning the play area. It is not too big to use in a small apartment with limited play space.Bad Points: The shape sorter feature does not work. All of the shapes fit into all of the holes. When our son tried to use the kitchen for stability when he was learning to walk, it toppled many times. When he used it as support when standing up from the floor, it fell on him. (He did not get hurt during these falls since the "kitchen" is light. Overall, it's worth the money as a "first" kitchen.
Customer Review: Mommy plays with it more than babies do Summary: 2 Stars
My twin daughters received this as a Christmas present whent they were 11 months old. The first day they woke up and found this toy set up in the living room, their eyes lit up. The girls really like the shape sorter and laugh every time pushing the ice maker button makes the "ice cubes" fall out. Each of the ice cubes fits in any of the three holes, so there is less frustration for the babies, who are more interested in pressing the button anyway. Mommy likes to put pretend food and bowls in the microwave, oven and refrigerator and to "cook" on the stove and wash food in the sink. Unfortunately, the twins prefer to play by taking everything out and then turn their attention elsewhere. Best feature is the red phone, which the twins fight over. The worst is that this toy tips over pretty easily. As the girls are now walking, this kitchen is getting to be a little too small. We're going to have to get a larger one soon.
Customer Review: Now we're cooking! Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter has owned this toy since she was 9 months old and she has been playing with it consisently ever since. When my husband and I are cooking in the kitchen she likes to go over and play at her kitchen and imitate us. We ask her to boil water for the spaghetti, or fry the chicken, and her imagination takes over! We have stocked her kitchen with pretend play food (hard to find non-choking hazard stuff for the under 18 month old crowd but it can be done) and she feeds her stuffed animals and us with the food she has made. We pretend the shape sorting fridge is the "ice" and she enjoys pressing the button and having the shapes fall out into her bowl, and then putting the shapes in again. Unfortunately, even the square and triangle shape fit in the circle spot but its a minor complaint, and the fun far outweighs the problem. This kitchen is great until she is old enough for the BIG kitchen for the over 3 year old set.
