Toys and Games Reviews of Discover Sounds KitchenCustomer Review: Bon appetite! Summary: 4 Stars
Our daughter received this as a gift for her first birthday and took to it right away. The love of 'putting in and taking out' that little ones have is definitely fostered with this toy. There is a shape sorter on the 'refrigerator' that allows small hands to put 'ice cube' shapes in and, with the push of a button, they tumble out, which has been a hit in our house. And if your little person is enamored with your home telephone (as ours is) there is also a 'phone' included with the toy that our daughter loves to 'talk' on. Hey, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, I guess :).As far as sound is concerned, there isn't anything remotely loud or obnoxious that we've found with this toy. For example, when the pot is put on the 'stove', a 'boiling' sound is heard...or when the pan is on the stove, it sounds like something is 'frying'. And the 'timer' ding hasn't made us nuts yet, even when our daughter decides this is her favorite sound of the day and we hear it over and over and over... This is a clever little toy that could easily occupy your child and fuel their budding imaginations and curiousity. Bon appetite!
Customer Review: Fun for Little Ones Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great toy for babies and younger toddlers. My guess is that people who bought this toy for older toddlers and dont like it didn't take much time to actually look at it. We bought this for my daughter when she was 9 months old and she still loves it 5 months later. This isn't a toy for "pretend cooking" but for other learning play. Personally I like that all the shapes fit into any of the holes. Many other shape sorters are too difficult for DD to put the shapes into yet. She was so proud of herself the first time she got one of the little "ice cubes" into a hole and could get press the button to get them out. There is plenty of time and other toys for her to learn to put the right shape in the right hole. She also likes opening and closing all the doors and putting the pots and pans (and everything else) into the microwave, oven and refrigerator. The only drawback I've found is that on our particular toy the oven door sticks some. I wish I had returned it right away for another item, but after some play the door moves much more smoothly.
Customer Review: A good toy overall Summary: 5 Stars
Our daughter received this toy when she turned one, and believe me we wish we had bought it for her earlier. She LOVES it. Who knew she could spend so much time putting the pans in the oven and taking them out. She loves the ice cube thing too, although she doesn't yet put them in the correct holes. I think as soon as your child is able to sit up and crawl, this is an ideal toy. This being said, I don't believe that it is one she'll be able to use to "play pretend" when she gets older. It is a bit small for that. But it's a good toy for the money. When she gets bigger and wants to play pretend, we'll just get her a bigger one. In the mean time, this one is great. The only thing I'd say that is not ideal about it is that little fingers can get pinched in the oven, microwave, or refrigerator door. Ellen did this once, but seemed to learn the first time. The other thing to watch is that little ones may mistake it for something sturdy to pull up on and could fall, so just make sure that if they fall back, they won't land on anything bad.
Customer Review: Built to last and consistent fun Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter is 16 months old and has had this Kitchen Unit for about 7 months. It is played with daily, bashed, pulled, even climbed on and remains intact and unscathed. I have only one minor complaint - SECURE IT! I made a whole in the back of the unit and threaded a plastic locking strap to attach it to the playard to keep it from moving too much. Otherwise I found her constantly knocking the whole unit over and getting upset. The sound effects are great (and nice and quiet too!) and there is not a day when she is not doing something with the unit. During tidy up time she learned (without prompting) to hang the kitchen utensils back on their hook, and replace the shapes in the ice maker door. It can also be used with other toys and I often find her storing other items in the small cupboards, or cooking with something else altogether. I really REALLY recommend this as a good buy - at $29.99 it's not cheap, but it was certainly money well spent as far as we are concerned, and seems simply, but very well constructed, and sure to last. EXCELLENT
Customer Review: Great starter kitchen! Summary: 4 Stars
My daughter got this as a gift for her 1st birthday and now at 22 months she still plays with it almost everyday! It makes great noises and she loves to pretend to get "ice" out of the fridge by pushing the button and have the shapes fall into a cup. The shapes peices were very easy for her to figure out and she spent most of her time doing that in the beginning. Now that she is older she likes to pretend to cook. The little sink is a bit small for her to pretend to get water out into a cup, but she makes do. I also like the small size for indoor play since it doesn't take to much space. (we recently put it inside a "fort" we made and it fits under the card table perfectly. ;)) My daughter has never had any problems with this toy tipping, but I do usually have it up against a wall so that may be the reason. One thing that I don't like is that it is very difficult to hang the phone back up once its down. My daughter isn't coordinated enough to do it yet. Other than that its a great toy!
