Toys and Games Reviews of Discover Sounds KitchenCustomer Review: Fantastic first kitchen Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter received the Discover Sounds Kitchen about four months ago when she was a year and a half years old. She immediately loved it and has been entertained by it ever since. When ever she sees it, she races over to it and starts pushing the button to release the "ice cubes", and then she takes the pot out of the oven and places it on the stove which makes neat bubbling noises as if it's boiling. She'll then mix her imaginary creation with the spoons and spatula. Later she'll take the pan out of the microwave and place it on the stove which makes a realistic sizzling noise. She constantly is shifting things around, in and out of the various compartments while fully using her imagination and grinning from ear to ear. I am so amazed how quickly she learns to use the different features. I too find it very entertaining and enjoy playing along with her (I wish I had one when I was little!). It is very sturdy and compact (it doesn't take up much space at all) but yet is large enough to be filled with hours of fun. My only complaint is regarding the design of the hook for the spatula/ spoon. It hangs too low causing the spatula/spoon to drag on the floor/table. And the hook itself is so small that the utensils constantly fall off with the slightest nudge.
Customer Review: We LOVE this toy! Summary: 5 Stars
When my son was 6 months old, toys didn't hold his attention for long - until we visited a relative who had this toy. He sat in front of it for an hour until it was time to leave. I couldn't believe it! We promptly got one of our own and it continued to occupy him - he's over 15 months old now and we just replaced this with a bigger Little Tikes kitchen. It was wonderful watching him learn to open and close the refrigerator, stove and microwave, to put the pots on the stove to make cooking & boiling noises, and to put the "ice cube" blocks in the fridge and push the button to get them out. The only minor complaint I have is that the blocks aren't good shape sorters since all three blocks (square, triangle, circle) can fit through the square hole (the triangle actually fits through all three) - that's why I only gave it 4 stars for educational value. This little kitchen is very durable - it's been knocked over, beat on, climbed on, and just used in general for almost a year and is still in perfect shape! We also have the Discover Sounds Workbench, a friend has the Workbench as well, and our neighbor has the Market. Both of those are also cute, but the consensus among the kids and parents is that the kitchen is by far the best of the three!
Customer Review: She loves it! Summary: 4 Stars
My nine month old daughter loves this toy. I bought the kitchen because she plays with a larger play kitchen at her sitters all the time. We did not have room for a larger version in our small apartment. Overall it was a good investment as she plays with it frequently. Although she has not discovered the fun of the blocks or the stove yet she does enjoy opening and closing the doors. I wish that Little Tikes would find a way to keep it from turning over so easily though or possibly a way to brace the kitchen to the wall. She has already turn it over on herself several times trying to pull herself up. Other than that we have had none of the issues some of the other reviewers stated. The sound is fine, just loud enough for someone playing with the kitchen to hear, but not so loud that I have to hear it when standing on the other side of the room. We did not have trouble with the phone. Although I have had to go looking for it several times as my daughter tends to crawl off with it. Overall, I would say it was a good investment as she has already spent several hours playing with the kitchen. I hope as she gets older she will learn to enjoy the other activities.
Customer Review: This is the BEST TOY!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I cannot say enough good things about this kitchen! We bought it when our daughter was 9 months old, and she still plays with it at 16 months. She has honestly played with this more than any other toy she's gotten. I try to alternate groups of toys (as she gets bored easily), but this is one that is a constant. I remember how thrilled we were that she figured out the shapes (ice cubes in the refrigerator door) the day we gave it to her, and we feel it helped her figure out other toys with shapes. She also quickly discovered how to get the dishes to make the cooking sounds, and she loves that! She carries the phone around everywhere and puts all kinds of things in the oven, refrigerator and microwave--only to be tickled when she finds them later! An added bonus is that the utensils make a great teether. Since this adorable kitchen keeps her busy for quite awhile, I don't mind it being a part of our living room decor. We also used to put it right in the playpen! It's very durable, just the right height, and easy to clean. When others come over, this is what gets played with the most. I HIGHLY recommend it for your child, and I'm picky! :)
Customer Review: Pros and Cons Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my third childs first birthday and I wished I had bought it for my first. I found it interesting that her older 6 year old brother and 4 year old brother had to play with it for hours before she was allowed to play.Pros: -allows any shape to go in any hole (very nice since she becomes frustrated easily) -small in size- we live in a small house and I wanted a cost effective small toy that I wouldn't be tripping over but would still offer tons of play time and imagination. This toy achieved that. Cons: -I've been very disappointed in the oven door tolerances. I've tried replacing the door and replacing the whole unit. Same problems. Little Tikes have bent over backwards to try and help me but reading the reviews, I'm not the first and this has been ongoing for awhile. I wish they'd fix it but it's not bad enough for me to return it (but bad enough for me to contact them on more than one occasion). Basically because it bothers me more than her, I've kept it. (and she Loves it) - I can't believe they created a toy with such a lousy way for hanging up the phone. Bluntly, it doesn't work but what the heck.
