Customer Review: Discovery

I found this on Amazon in time to get it for my son's 4th birthday a couple months ago. He's named two of the three astronauts (Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin), which are a bit rubbery so even his little sister has played with them and not hurt them or herself. The only issue has been that one of the wheel sets (not the gear itself) has broken and I have the wrong type of glue I guess (Testors in the blue tube). He's had it "fly" across the room a few times, and while the vertical stabilizer/tail has loosened a bit it does not seem that it will break off. This is one of his toys that he plays with EVERY day, which I can't even say about his dinosaurs or tractors.
It is as educational as the parent makes it. My son watched the Discovery's last launch, then watched the replays with me because he was asking questions. He then watched Discovery's last return/landing, so he got to see what they do for that as well, so he knows when the boosters and fuel tank are jettisoned (there are on-board videos of what happens with those as well), how the shuttle looks on re-entry, etc. Having a toy Discovery (I don't know if they have any of the other orbiters or just the Discovery, but that is the name of his) really fostered him asking the questions, re-enacting, etc. So, if it keeps his interest, and keeps him asking questions, fantastic.
