We bought this for our 8 year old son who had specifically asked for a microscope for his birthday in February. He was thrilled and amazed once we got it opened and working. Without even looking at the directions I was able to set it up and view a slide. However, this is not a toy, and will require adult supervision and instruction until he learns to use it properly for himself. He has expressed a desire to view other items using the microscope and since there a few blank slides and some instructions on how to create your own slides, we look forward to assisting him fulfill this request. Overall, we are impressed with the purchase and are thrilled with our sons' pleasure. Just a reminder: this "tool" needs grown up assistance so that the child will not get frustrated until they learn to use it properly for themselves.
